Gas Guzzling Blues -- Douglas Chick

I have an Infiniti FX 35 that gets 18 miles a gal, and Land Rover that gets 13 miles a gal, and a Jeep Cherokee that get around 17. The Infiniti is the best of the 3 on gas, but at 18 miles a gallon, at near $4 a gallon, I may as well drive a Sherman tank.

(This sounds like a country song, doesn’t it?)

The SUV trend that saved the American Car makers is quickly sending them to the grave. Because dealers are offering little for a SUV trade in, (because they can’t get rid of them) the remaining value leaves you upside down on your car loan. This balance is then placed on top of the already over priced fuel efficient cars loan, combined, you really don’t save any money.

Will the high price of gas put the final nail in the American car maker’s coffin, or force them to be more fuel efficient?

...not withstanding, why are all the hybrids so damn ugly?

I drive a big fat truck. It's paid for and gets 10mpg. I would not dream of getting rid of it even if gas went to 15.00 per gallon. Why you ask? Because, then I would have a HUGE car payment on top of high fuel prices. The incentive to purchase less fuel at a high price vs. a car payment does not wash. So what, I'll spend 200.00 per month on gas I still don't have a 500.00 per month car loan.
Love my Tahoe!!! Still got lots of miles left too. Unless some left wing liberal terrorist torches it in the name of the environment.

I drive a big SUV and I could care less what the gas bills are. I owe nothing on it. Besides, me driving it is helping you. Why? Because I am contributing to global warming which is causing you to spend less this winter on oil bills. Isn't that nice of me? People should be thanking me.

President Bush went overseas on his hands and knees begging like a dog to please increase oil production. What the hell was he thinking? WE owe so much money to those folks that the Sadi's could look Bush in his face and say, "GO TO HELL. We have sold out our country by having all our products produce overseas. Now, the strongest country in the world must now Beg. They own us, all of us....

I drive a Honda Civic Hybrid, and I love it!
The gas prices still hurt, but not quite as bad as when I had my 20mpg Subaru.

And while I have car payments, no matter what I drove, I would have thes--but the financing is good, and my fuel costs are about $80.00 per month--with a 25 mile commute.

Not too bad.

And we still get off better than europe, and other parts of the world, where they would love to pay only $4 a gallon.

I have a 1985 MB Diesel running on Biodiesel I am making at home for 1$ a gallon. I payed 2000 for the car, spent 20 hrs fixing all the major issues and now drive it back and forth to work and spend about $30 a month on fuel, and to boot my insurance dropped $200 switch my primary car from a 2000 jeep to the MB. Oil companys can kiss my butt. Jeep getting sold for a 1995 diesel truck.
