Gas Prices
May 29, 2008 | 7:27 AM PST
Category:
News
I was reading on Philly.Com this morning and they posed a question about why there isn't more of an uproar as was in 1979.I wasn't old enough to drive but I do remember the odd and even rationing and the horrendous lines.Although gas prices adjusted to the current level are a bit higher than in'79,I don't see an uproar unless we get into the rationing and supply problems we did back then.I have no idea we will be as patient if gas goes past the five dollar threshold but something tells me we will.
Subway Murder

News
Reading and hearing about the murder of Sean Conroy reminds us all how vulnerable we are in the subway. It also brings back a frightening memory when I was approached by several teenagers who taunted and threatened me while i was riding the L in West Philly many years ago.I was fearing for my life but luckily for me this disturbing incident never escalated to the point of last weeks gruesome and unprovoked attack.I've been on both subway sytems since and never once had a problem. This terrible incident brings back the memory I have of many years ago and proves all of us aren't as safe as we might think.
Media should respect Andy Reid!

It's crazy that the media is devoting all this attention to Andy Reid's son.I realize since Andy Reid is a public figure, this comes with the territory of his high profile job but I had to laugh when an ABC6 Reporter was showing viewers a dented shopping cart with a helicopter circling around.Meanwhile people are still being murdered at a record rate in Philadelphia.Brit Reid is just another young man with an addiction problem. He obviously is a newsworthy story only because of his father.I'd have no problem with this story if the media reported it in a less sensational way.I just found out today that Brit Reid's bail was revoked and he was sent to prison.I hope he gets the help he truly needs.I also hope the media will leave this issue where it belongs, in Andy Reid's family.
The recent idea of Gov. Corizine to privitize the NJ Turnpike would only add to the already out of control system in NJ.This isn't a long term solution.I worked in several school districts in New Jersey and I was a witness to all the wasteful ways of how the state uses taxpayers money.I agree that the teachers shouldn't be affected. We have a reputation for excellent schools and it's because of the teachers. What about all the overpaid administrators?I noticed each District I worked in had too many of these positions. A lot of them had tremendous perks. Is it really necessary for the taxpayers to pay for all of these? One of the Districts I worked in paid for vehicles of the top three administrators. It's wasteful spending such as this that is wrong with our state! The Governor should look to reduce a lot of these unecessary positions if he's truly sincere about true tax relief. This is only one small idea, but at least it's a start.
Republicans split on Iraq!

It finally looks like Pres Bush will finally have to make a drastic change on his war policy in Iraq. With highly respected Sen. Luger speaking out,Pres.Bush might finally have to give in. This war has been a losing battle and our troops deserve to come home.I'm tired of hearing we're keeping terrorists out of our country by having our troops in Iraq.I still find it hard to believe people think we should stay there. What about other hot spots in the World? It's already proven that terrorism is right in our own back yards in the Delaware Valley.Let the Iraqi's continue their tribal feuding and bring our servicemen home!
Paris Hilton

I had to laugh last night when Action news made Paris Hilton the lead story.I guess a rich heiress deserves more attention than another foiled terrorist plot or more of our troops dying in Iraq.I don't know why I'm so shocked but I guess our desire for gossip and celebrity sightings will always take precedent over more serious events.

I though I finally heard the end of all the negative comments relating to the Governor not wearing a seatbelt.I heard last night the governor is under heat for receiving special treatment while being hospitlized. What highly elected official doesn't? That's the way it always is.Why are people so upset or suprised? I thought it was ridiciulous enough with the seat belt issue. The governor admitted he was wrong and should've known better and he set a bad example. That should be more than enough for the people!
Ft Dix Terror Plot
May 8, 2007 | 12:40 PM PST
Category:
News
The latest plot on Ft Dix has just proved the terrorists have no limits and will go out of their way to harm innocent people.Pres.Bush's backers think we're keeping terrorists out of our own country by prolonging the war in Iraq. This proves how wrong this is and no matter if we stay in Iraq or not ,terrorism is a global reality and reaches way past its origins in the Middle East.
Imus firing

I wasn't suprised in the least of Imus" firing, but I was at the responses I got on my blog.A the majority of the replies I got differed with my opinion.I must admit,a lot of people brought up some very good points. The one I seemed to agree with the most was that Sharpton and Jackson are only out to further to further their own agenda. As a lot of people have already said they should be more worried about the black on black crime going on in the inner cities. This still can't undo or justify Imus' comments.Look how Howard Cosell was fired for his remarks on a Monday Night football game almost 20 years ago.Broadcasters in our political climate know the risks of making racial jokes and the invisible line they can't cross.Although I believe people should get to apologize and be forgiven the executives at CBS thought it was beyond the point of no return.
Imus should be fired!

Don Imus's comments last week about the Rutgers womens basketball team went well over the line.Plenty of other media stars have made the same mistake and were fired and Imus should be no exception! An apology is too late.People in Don Imus's position know more than well the consequences of remarks such as the ones he made.I never though he was that funny anyway but for some reason he was able to get political heaveyweights like Bill Clinton and many others. He obviously makes a lot of money for his employers.Who is he to make such racist remarks anyway. He's not exactly attractive looking himself and he's also a confessed coke freak and drunk. He said he's in recovery but with comments like that is he? I hope all the presdential candidates boycott his show if he doesn't get fired.
Every time we hear of a severe storm, whether it a snowstorm, ice storm,or hurricane, all's we hear are complaints from travelers who complain about being stuck in an airport. We also hear about how inefficient the airlines and its workers are.The fact of the matter is when hundreds of flights get cancelled it always causes major disruptions and people get angry and upset.A lot of these baggage handlers who are underpaid to begin with, get over burdened with extra luggage and no extra help..We never hear about this too often. The real fact is these emoployees are overworked and under staffed.I'm sure the next storm we get we'll be hearing the same problems again. It's a fact of life as an air passenger,on rare occasions, the weather will cause havov thats beyond our contol.
The Democrats are calling for a plan to have Iraq free of US troops in 2008 and having their government turned back to them.I think this plan is long overdue.I know there's actually people out their who think we're preventing terrorism by being over there. I think these people need to wake up.In my opinion terrorism stretches much further than Iraq. Our President keeps stating we should support our troops.Look at the Walter Reed fiasco! How were these troops supported? Not very well. It's hard to think no one knew about this.We need to approve this measure now and leave Iraq to its own devices. There's plenty of other problems around the world and in our country to confront.
Rats seen scurrying in Taco Bell!

I almost was ready to go grab a burritto at Taco Bell! I figured I'd give Taco Bell another try. Then I saw on the news about the rats scurrying freely across a Taco Bell floor in NYC.I quickly lost my appetite for that burritto.
Sirious XM Merger

I heard XM and Sirius plan to merge providing the deal gets approved.I'm assuming if it does;I won't have to choose between both providers. If I'm able to have both packages I think I'll finally go out and purchase a satelite radio. Both companies are losing money. It sounds like a good deal for the consumers if they can get all the progamming in one single package.Choosing between the two has kept me from buying a satelite radio because I enjoy the programs on xm and sirius.I think it would be great if they're put all together esp for about the same price as only having one.
Milton Street for Mayor?
Feb 15, 2007 | 5:29 PM PST

News
I almost drove off the side if the road today when I heard Milton Street has announced he's running for mayor. Is he kidding?I guess this could be a way to forget about his upcoming trial. How can he even be serious? He could end up doing jail time.I remember in the 70,s and 80,s he was always creating interesting headlines with his brother. Milton doesn't even live in Philly. He currently lives in Moorestown. He explains this one by saying he has dual residency in both states and still votes in Philly.I guess Milton really is serious about taking over for his brother.I highly doubt the rest of the people of Philly do. If I were Milton; I'd be worrying a whole lot more how to avoid the slammer.
