I'm looking forward to next Jan 20 when Pres. Bush leaves office. His policy of lying and having our servicemen killed and even more maimed  has all but assured John McCain won't have the chance to continue this failed war.I think the majority of Americans are sick of this expensive war and whether it's Hillary or Obama, they at least will offer hope of finally ending this war.Our economy is in turmoil and a few will argue the economy  ebbs and flows in cycles over a long period but even the most loyal Bush supporter has to admit the endless amounts of money the Bush Adm. has invested in this war is taking its toll on our economy.I bet a lot of people don't even know there's actually more US contractors than US Troops in Iraq.I guess it's good to know someone's making a profit.

Oh please, even though no WMD were found in Iraq (because we gave them a bazillion years to move them) this war , although distasteful, was for the right reason. 2 million Iraqi's and Iranian's died while Saddam was in power. An untold number of kurds, men women and children were killed for nothing more than being of a different religeous sect, but you Democrats are right, Saddam was a great guy and should have remained in power. Furthermore, do you really think that this war is/will be more costly than the idiotic social programs that Hillary and Obama want to deploy. Are you that rich that you can afford them, or are you on the recieving end of all of those social; programs that are so costly. If the Dems come to power, just wait and you will see one of the largest recessions this country has seen. We will truly become the USSA (united socialist states of America). I for one ame tired of paying huge taxes for Social progams for people who, for one reason or another, refuse to take up the challenges of a capitalist society.I am tired of paying taxes so others can loaf their way through life.

"Distasteful??" That's a new one on me. Iraq was not a threat to us, and had nothing to do with 9/11 as Bush would like us to believe. Saddam was a tyrant, yes, but it wasn't our problem. Now, we're occupying their country, is it any wonder their leaked off at us? Their battle has been going on for centuries, I highly doubt we're going to settle it. And, I don't like the Dems and their social programs either, but I don't think anything they could muster up would cost us into the trillions of dollars. The money already spent over there could have been put to more use over here IMO. War is the sport of big business these days, too bad so many innocents have to die for that. We're stuck in Iraq for a long time as it looks, Bush said just today that it's now going to be the next Administration's problem, the troops aren't coming home.

Judging from movealready's picture it's true that some people do look like they sound.
You are "tired of paying huge taxes for Social programs"?
Well, what do you call spending $500 billion and counting for the "distasteful program" we are engaged in now because George, the idiot son, took up the social cause for the "2 million Iraqi's and Iranian's that died while Saddam was in power".
I'm more concerned with the 4,000+ dead Americans, the 30,000+ wounded Americans and hundreds of thousands of "healthy" returning Americans (of which I am "fortunately" one) that will have unpleasant memories for the rest of our lives.
I'm more concerned with the hard working Americans that can't afford to go to work because of the cost of gas.
One thing presidents and other administrators have always done is take care of the people that put them there before they leave their position and the oil mess and "distasteful" mess are proof of that.

Your right, I give up, it's good to let a murderous regime remain in power, Hitler, great guy, Moussalini, a real mench, Stalin, Lennin, Saddam. Shall we continue. This war, however distasteful, needs to be finished, not abandoned( which the Dems seem all to willing to do).

From Wikipedia......"During the Summer and Fall of 2000, Bin Laden and other senior al-Qaeda leaders began selecting the "muscle" hijackers. With Hamzi and al-Mihdhar already selected, thirteen additional hijackers were selected. They were all from Saudi Arabia, except for Fayez Banihammad who was from the United Arab Emirates. They were all between age 20 and 28, most were unemployed with no more than a high school education, and were unmarried. The muscle hijackers included Salem al-Hazmi, a younger brother of Nawaf al-Hamzi. They came to Afghanistan for training, to go fight in Chechnya. In the Summer and Fall of 2000, they were identified as candidates for the 9/11 operation, and brought before Bin Laden and Atef. Bin Laden personally selected the 13 hijackers from the candidates. They briefly left Afghanistan to acquire U.S. visas, then returned for further training in late 2000 or early 2001. In late April 2001, the muscle hijackers began arriving in the U.S.

A certain someone turned a blind eye to Afghanistan in the mid-90's while the Taliban solidified control, and Bin Laden trained his henchman.

Do you really think that couldn't have happened in Iraq also? Saddam had a history of providing training facilities for terrorist. Could we heve afforded to take that chance?

I've been there to fight twice, how many times have you been there to help "protect" people like you?
The private contractors will take you on to drive a truck if you're unfit for combat.

the problem is that no matter when we "leave iraq" we will never be out of that country! we havetoo much at stake in the middle east to leave completely from there. our problem with Iraq is,we should have bombed them into the oblivian at the start of this mess! SHOCK AND AWE! we are losing troops for no reason, but pull out completely and let these enemies of ours come to our land and see how thes peacekeepers react!

AZMee,

I was there to fight. While I was behind the scenes working on radar systems, I still served my time. I don't believe that you were a fighter. Sorry, not buying it... I do not know of 1 single Marine or Army troop who is not proud of what they are doing. Ask them to leave and they'll tell you not until the job is finished.

Oh....but yeah lets just quit, throw up the white flag and leave. You people annoy me! Let them do their jobs! Leave Iraq before the job is done and 4000+ troops died in vein for nothing. While it is nice that you anti-war surrendering folks want to cut and run and make your opinions known, it is nice to know that we have a president who will stick to his guns and his word.

Thanks, electrons. I had a post written last night calling into question AzMee's "service, but I did not post just on the chance I did not want blast a service person. I am not military, but many in my imediate family are and I know for a fact, that every soldier is proud of their service and would gladly do their part to protect Iraqi's from a tyrannical regime, even if it cost them their lives. Leaving Iraq under a Democratic lead "legislated defeat" is wrong and a slap in the face of every American soldier.

Did I ever say I wasn't proud to serve?
You can question my service all you want just because I oppose how things are being mishandled
Nothing is 100%.
I see both sides of the issue and believe there is more down side than up side.
I had no problem going there, twice, to take care of a situation that Israel would have taken care of if not for the pressures the U.S. put on them not to.

As a WW2 veteran, I can recall first hand knowledge of the horrors of war. However, I can also attest to the necessity of war under certain conditions. In the 1040's, Hitler had overrun Europe and was making pretty good garbage out of a lot of England. On the other side of the world was Pearl Harbor on 12/7/41.
We were technically in the war in Europe, while not with troops yet, certainly with supplies and support.
Later the same Sunday, President Roosevelt declared war on Japan.Europe followed within hours.
My point? Simply war was necessary to protect our interests as well as our nation.
To bring us up to date, we are not at war WITH Iraq, we are at war IN Iraq against international terrorism, A very real threat to our nation and our sovereignty. It has been well established that there are terrorist cells currently IN THIS COUNTRY! They are ready, willing and able to wreak havoc on command. Not only that, but more are crossing our southern border regularly, disguised as Hispanics, and their number is increasing almost daily. These terrorist are under the command of El Quida as well as other terrorist groups, all of which hate us and would love nothing better than to kill all of us.
The equation is simple. Deal with them in their homeland, or deal with them in ours.
I'll take the former!

no matter what the reason we went into iraq for..... it could be that we prevented world war 3 from happening. does anyone out there think that there would have been a smooth transition of power after his death? puuuulllleeeeaaaazzzz!!!!!!!!!! you would have seen violence over there like none had occurred before, and the entire northern hemisphere would have become involved eventually.

I don't think leaving the Middle East will help boost our economy.

Where was the money for our troops going BEFORE we were fighting in the middle east? I didn't notice any free healthcare, or a drop in my taxes during the 8 years the Clinton's were partying in the White House.

AL Quaeda has killed and displaced millions in Darfur in less than a decade. That's more than Saddam in less time (not to mention the US did a better job killing and maiming in Iraq in 5 years than did Saddam). Why do you think Powell left?

Perhaps some soldiers should stop trying to save the world with bullets and start doing it with books. I chose to fight violence with education.

I have met many people in their 20s and 30s from the Middle East who agree that the ole folks are ruining their country. Thanks to the internet, they are educated on our way of life and want what we have. Killing these young people and their families void all that they have learned.

The military is using up all the gas in the Middle EAst. Get out of Iraq and the economy will bounce back. All one has to do is review history. Wheneve there is a conflict in the Middle East, gas prices soar.

Having said that....

we only made matters worse here in AZ by kicking out the illegals. They are no longer paying sales, property, state, SS and unemployment taxes. Furthermore, all of their homes are now sitting empty further exacerbating the real estate market.
