Don Imus's comments last week about the Rutgers womens basketball team went well over the line.Plenty of other media stars  have made the same mistake and were fired and Imus should be no exception! An apology is too late.People in Don Imus's position know more than well the consequences of remarks such as the ones he made.I never though he was that funny anyway but for some reason he was able to get political heaveyweights like Bill Clinton and many others. He obviously makes a lot of money for his employers.Who is he to make such racist remarks anyway. He's not exactly attractive looking himself and he's also a confessed coke freak and drunk.  He said he's in recovery but with comments like that is he? I hope all the presdential candidates boycott his show if he doesn't get fired.

Why isnt Al Sharpton asking for Rap Music to be boycotted against because they use the words BLEEP and alot worse. This double stardard stuff needs to stop. And Al isnt any saint himself with his racist statements againt the Jews among other people

ok so lets look at what was said
"That's some rough girls from Rutgers," Imus said. "Man, they got tattoos ... ."
TRUE statement of fact
"Some hardcore (hos)," McGuirk said.
The true derogitory statement...
"That's some nappy-headed hos there, I'm going to tell you that," Imus said.
had the "HOS" been letout of imus's comment what would be wrong with this stament...

Imus has since apologized, but his mea culpa has not quieted the uproar.

why is it that any of this gets blown out of proportion, I hear worse said on television shows everyday. IMUS is probably one of my least favorite broadcasters, not for his statements or this current issue, but for his ideas in general about what others have to say. However, that doesn't mean he should be subjugated to this mediablitz, and specifically should not be called to terms by one such as the"Rev.Sharpton" who had done more to inflame the serpratists veiw then any shock jock..
as for the two week suspension??what for the use of the word "HOS" or "NAPPY HEADED"
should he have said it maybe not, does he have the right to say it? seems to me if thats truely how he feels then he has the right to express that opinoin, it's his job to be verbally expressive and thats what he gets paid for on this time it wasn't some mealy nouthed political group or advocasy group it was a well honed athletic team of "tattoed women, who in fact do by the end of the game have some nappy looking hair, so where was the slur? in that he repeated the "HOS" a term so generically used today that it and its origianl meaning have very little in comm

The double-standard applies once again. I constantly hear racial remarks from blacks against whites - even movie titles are racist against whites. There are black mayors' caucuses; black Miss America; Black movie awards. What the hell would happen if there were all those things for white people? There'd be riots all over the place. let's get a life and get back to what really matters - our men and women of ALL colors being killed and maimed fighting for people who don't give a damn about us. Media latches on to something like this black and white stuff and runs it into the ground. I think I'd rather hear about Sanjaya(barf!) than this crap over and over and over, ad infinitum.

Who cares what Al Sharpton thinks. No one listens to him anyway. He really needs a job.

Imus is an idiot - he's made a living being an idiot, but he should not be fired over this.
Sharpton is always there to make a mountain out of a mole hill and spew the flames of hate. What kind of religious man is too hardened that he cannot preach forgiveness and tolerance? - Not much of one if you ask me. Al needs to ask, "What would Jesus do?"

I think Imus should be fired for as long as all black entertainers are fired every time they make fun of, not just a white person, but a asian, middle eastern, latino and even themselves. Did I fall asleep for 15 years and miss the announcement that black people are pardoned from all race comedy when it is convenient for them.

He went over the line. Period. He should be fired. These type of comments are not only hurtful but they perpetuate racial hatred and sterotypes about AA. It really doesn't matter what Al Sharpton thinks or doesn't think. This Imus character needs to be fired irrespective of Sharpton's opinion. The world made a big deal out Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction and she has never recovered from it: cancelled appearances, advertisers pulling out, etc. But she is a black woman and it is never okay when a black woman or man misbehaves. But it is okay when a white man does it precisely because we live in a racist society. And to you Joan MKF: the reason we have our OWN is precisely because of racism. If society was equal and allowed equal access to resources, there would be no need to have such organizations as The NAACP, the Anti-Defamation Leaque, and so on. Thank God there are these organizations to look out for the interests of people who are discriminated against in this society. If you were smart, you would know this. Apparently you are ignorant to the facts.

I have three words for Fox News and everyone out there: "Jimmy the Greek".......For those who are too young to remember; this man made inappropriate racial comments over 20 years ago. He disappeared from the public and Imus needs to do the same. Imus's suspension is nonsense; the radio station needs to do the right thing and fire him immediately.

How about we not confuse the lyrics included in the rap singers songs, nor the issue of our troops overseas, or any other issue going on in our country that most of feel should be addressed with this separate issue. Imus should be fired for his insensitive, racist and inappropriate remarks plain and simple. How dare anyone say "get over it" in this day and age. I can only assume that those who feel those young ladies should simply get over it have never been faced with trying to get over it. Well take my word for it. It's not as easy to get over it as one would like to think. Maybe the ladies would find it easier to get over it if we stood together to right this wrong as we have done in history when faced with issues such as these.

I am a disabled veteran who was proud to serve his country. Kepp it free for the right to free speech? Definately! But not for comments like Imis made. He should be brought up on discrminination charges. I whish I had him here for 5 minutes so I could tell him what I really nk which would get me in trouble if I put it on the internet.

A two week vacation, I mean suspension, is not enough. That's no more than a slap on the wrist. I heard his comments for the first time today and was appalled. Anything less than his termination is unaceptable and will loudly convey to the world how his radio station views African Americans.

Fire him!!! We don't need his kind.

The only difference between a rapper saying it and Imus -- Our kids won't listen to Imus even if you laid some funky beats behind him!!! Sorry to lose focus on the the subject -- but if we're firing people Im not sure Imus needs to be at the top of the list!!

You know what? Why don't you people have him arrested, taken to court and executed by lethal injection. Will that make you feel better? Will that stop people from making jokes with no hate behind them? I think not.

Imus should be fired. I am an African American Woman, but let me first say this country has referred to African American men and women in a negative context for a very long time. Its truly unfortunate, that our community has adopted this language and use it amongst ourselves. Its time for CHANGE. We should take the lead of Corporate Sponsors such as Staples and Proctor/Gamble. African Americans should stop supporting the pocket books of those Rappers and Record Labels who choose to degrade our African American women for financial gain both physically and verbally. There is no other racial group in this country that degrades themselves and is degraded by others as much as African Americans. Haven't we suffered enough? Its time to take a stand and for our community to take action and stop the suffering.
