The evil sadistic-minded traffic engineers in the Avondale/Goodyear area are fixing to get the wake-up of their life in about 4 weeks when Nascar hits the west valley. There is construction at the 99th, 107th, 115th (Avondale Blvd), Dysart, Litchfield, Bullard, and Estrella Parkway underpasses. On any give day an I-10 underpass might be closed.  3 lanes become 2. Northbound Dysart 3 lanes become 2 lanes and a left-only under the middle of the I-10 overpass. Van Buren has the "dreaded orange signs from hell"  from 115th to past El Mirage. Dysart is half torn up from Van Buren to Buckeye. Trying to get around the area makes you feel like a rat in a maze. They better get their defecation localized or it's gonna be a black eye for PIR, and it won't even be their fault.

I feel your pain cupcake!! I had to come off Bell and cut through the Post Office parking lot to get my daughter to school the other day, otherwise it would be a long haul round trying to find a street that isnt closed or torn up otherwise she would be late for school and we left in plenty of time too!!! grrrr!!!!

Yeah, Hector, but as much as I b!tch about it it beats driving in somewhere like Oregon with it's small-town mentality when it comes to traffic. Speed limit in town is usually 25 where here it would be 35, 35 there where it would be 45 here. Freeways in town are 55! Can you imagine driving on a freeway here at only 55? And the stoplights there are everywhere and not synchronized, and you HAVE to wait for the left turn arrow. Grrrrrrrr.
Ok, I feel better now, think I'll go for a drive...in the country!

If only gas would drop below $3 I might drive out too, but so long as it stays up I am conserving as much as possible. Why is it that in other places in the country it is below $3 but not here?? Are we being ripped off at the pump??

Well yes those speed limits would suck!! I witnessed an idiot coming down Greenway right before it goes to one lane either way, right before the 303, he didnt want to slow down and slide in behind the vehicle infront of him so he overtakes in the center median (inbetween the double yellow lines then cuts right back in, meanwhile throwing up all the dust and rocks and crap that collects in the middle at my freakin car, grrrrrrrrr.

Then this morning this woman who must be smoking or drinking something was in the left lane at the lights (not the left turn lane), we were sat there at a red and she swung out infront of the car sat in the left turn lane and continued with her left turn all wheels screeching on a red, didnt get her license plate #!!! What is going on?? grrrrrrrrrrr. Oh and she had been infront of me in the High School parking lot just dropping off her kids, that was after cutting me off in the first place. grrrrrrrrr LOL

Three warning shots to the head....it's always open season from my car. Good thing it's hot here and gotta have the windows up and A/C on, they would not appreciate hearing my numerous explitives, their ancestry is seriously in question. Scares my wife sometimes till I give it a loud Grrrrr. Better to vent than to store it up.

LOL yep but its cooling off so nearly time to wind those windows down!!! I came very close to flipping these jerks off yesterday, but restrained myself because you never know how crazy these people are. Its funny to take the mick out of idiots though, my daughter laughs at me when some dont indicate and I am saying 'Indicators are optional' (sarcastically) or a good ole game of playing guessing games, apparantly stop means go to some LOLOL, honestly I fear to take my kids on the road these days!! With that time to get ready for work, stay safe and have a great day. How is your son btw??

I used to go to the races every year. I would fight the traffic going in and then wait three hours after the race to leave. I don't miss sitting in the metal bleachers packed in like a sardine and leaving looking like a lobster. Even 80 degrees is hot when you're in a metal can. I have an idea that works now. I stay home in the A/C watch the TV and eat lobster dip.

RD--I agree with you. We're goona go to the Craftsman truck race, it costs half as much, it's not nearly as crowded, and at $5+ for a beer, that makes it half as expensive. I used to live about 2 miles from PIR, and the first time I went to the race there it took over 3 hours to get home.
But, yeah, the best seat in the house is at home. Beer's cheaper, too. Where ya been lately, Galveston?

I'm surprised you can say "traffic" and "engineers" in the same sentence and keep a straight face!

Yeah, it is sort of an oxymoron

dhw1949- Where did you live in Oregon? I grew up here and moved to Medford in 98, hated it, I finally convinced my husband to sell our house and come back in 2006.

Z-BRA-- I got out of the Army in 1978 and got a job over the phone installing phone office equipment in the Washington County for GTE. Lived in Tualatin, Tigard, and Hillsboro for over 20 years, couldn't wait to get out of the depressing rain. As soon as the kids graduated and went in the Army we moved here. I was stationed at Ft Huachuca twice so that hooked me on the climate here. Grew up in Colorad Springs, thought Oregon would have 4 seasons as well but, man was I wrong. Medford has a better climate than Portland area, further from the ocean, wouldn't mind living there.
Thanks for asking.

I didn't like Medford, because it was stagnant, with no possible opportunities. The people there have a weird small town mentality. I was extremely bored, and now I keep myself busy, busy, busy… I liked the Portland area; “the grass is always greener on the other side.” So I thought! When you lived there did you see the signs that said, "Welcome to Oregon enjoy your visit?"

Yeah, there's a sign on the I-5 bridge going into Vancouver with that.
I well know what you mean about the small-town mentality, in Portland it is not possible to cruise through town without continually gettig stuck at a stoplight. Can you imagine doing 75 going through town on the freeway keeping up with traffic? You're lucky there to do 55. And it's the land of "left-turn-on-green-arrow-only".
I really don't miss it.

I don't miss it either. It was the longest visit I ever encountered. Right after we bought our house here in Chandler, I had a nightmare that I was house shopping there. I was relieved when I woke up.
