I have to admit folks, I'm having a real hard time with this blog thing. I guess I'm so old school that I believe in keeping my opinions to myself and any observation on my part only reveals who I really am. Of course I have opinions and even prejudices but I try very hard to stay objective so that you (the viewer) will trust me to deliver the news without bias. It has become increasingly difficult in this new media world to not reveal just about everything about oneself. We have tools like Myspace and Facebook and even publicists to tell the world what we are all about. I am not comfortable with this new trend and see it watering down the credibility of just about every journalist in our business. We are directed to blog on a regular basis and some are better at it than others... me.. not so much. Let me know how you feel as a viewer when you know more about your news anchor than perhaps you wanted to know. It's a big deal to me, because for all my faults, I still want to provide you with a balanced look at the news. Like I said, I'm old school and I was trained by old school journalists who probably wouldn't blog, they'd probably talk about their old cars or a favorite TV show or their favorite sport. Oh yeah, then they would be criticized for not tackling more meaty subjects on their blogs. I don't care what other journalists think as long as they are honest brokers of information, you know, fair and balanced. Tough to do when everyone knows your biases!

Does the company require you to blog on a regular basis?

I personally think blogging is a fun way to get to know and interact with others, as long as all of us keep it civil and positive. I like your blog.

I would rather know something of the inner bias of a news person than not... part of the downright hypocricy of our system is that we can operate objectively without our personal beliefs tainting our reason. By system I mean our justice system, our representative and executive government, and our news media.

"I would rather have news papers without government than government without news papers." said Ben Franklin.

But ole Ben didn't have Hannity and O'Rielly, Dobbs and Blitzer, Cobert and Stewart. What he did have in my view was a prophetic window into what really makes our democratic form of government work... and that is an honest reporting of the news. And our evolution into what we have become as a nation has shown time and again that open and honest communications are better than assuming non-bias on the part of our forth estate. Open and honest makes fair and balanced a bit more believable.

i perfer hearing those simple topics you just mentioned carlos. i want to know what are your favorite tv shows, and what your favorite cars are. i find that interesting. i'm not all that into hearing about politics or any of those suppose "meaty" subjects. nope i like the fluff stuff because it's rare to know a anchor/reporter for who they really are. seems like many of them are very stern and just report with very limited personality. but that's why i love fox. fox tends to be a bit more people friendly. pretty carlos, say what you want, blog about what makes you comfortable, and i'm sure you will still get bloggers blogging.

Both Party’s are losing their base voters left and right. And they’re worried about it. Deport Illegal Aliens, more raids, NO AMNESTY, build the fence, release Border Patrol agents Ramos and Compean, no benefits to Illegal Aliens and their Anchor Baby kids, and………….support the unifying JAMIEL’S LAW in Los Angeles, not the divisive SPECIAL ORDER 40 (Sanctuary City policy)! Do those things, and you’ll get money and volunteers. Until then, we have plenty of tar and feathers. American taxpayers are FED UP!!!

Carlos, what do you think about that? Give us YOUR opinion, not some PC verbage you can read on the teleprompt.

Why do you have a picture of Walter Cronkite with your blog?

Why did you choose him to go with your words?

Carlos I have watched you for so many years you are like my brother with another mother, lol. I know you have got to be saying whewwwwww...with all of the recent changes at KTLA. I only wish your friends (Mark & Sam)could dodge it too but I guess time will tell. I must admit I am seeing a whole other side to some of the others who I will leave nameless (Mic) you get my drift. Anyway I enjoy watching you every evening just as I always have.

are you media people really so full of yourselves to think that viewers actually believe you are unbiased? gimme a break. most viewers realize you're just talking heads reading the drivel that comes out of the teleprompter. so get over yourself and that "old school" bs. and if your trying to compare yourself to walter cronkite by putting a photo of him on this post-then you really are delusional.

Actually Mr. Amezcua, the blogs are a pseudo news type, a new outlet of sorts. While on TV you have a contract and also a journalists original code to report the news rather than analyze it, the blogs are different. They in a sense, give you as a news celebrity and tv personality, a chance to interact with others. The problem with Hollywood is that it has gone to great lengths to distance itself from the public while demanding that the public view and absorb it. Blogging takes down the walls. Rather then shun this technology, you should actually embrace it and relish the fact that others would take time out of their busy lives too, coming together to exchange opinions and ideas, albeit sometimes harsh, but also wonderful views and ideas as well, a mixture of life to be celebrated rather than shunned.

Go sebar... it's your birthday!

Had that as a line in a high school play once.

ha ha ha C'mon Carlos, get it right brother. It's "honest brokers of (TRUTHFUL) information". Something most of you so-called journalists at FOX11 are NOT......yet.

Carlos don't buy into the crap being told to you most of us out here just want to vent and think like its going to make a difference blogging is the same as being at your local bar you get to vent and give an opinion and have arguments and conversation with others who agree or disagree ..some think its a forum to launch a career or be discovered ..its quite funny to me its so LA everybody is somebody other then who they really are..just so you know i was a big fan when you were on KTLA that was my favorite local news and their mourning show was the best and set precedence for FOX GDLA..not sucking up just giving kudos where kudos are deserved..keep on blogging

You rock Carlos! True reporters do their jobs objectively, regardless of their personal feelings and biases. This explains the loss of half the L.A. Times readers who instantly recognize their clear leftist and open borders agenda. Good to know that people like you still exist in the media.

Don't forget...

crafty,

there's a poster I used to love with a picture of a quite mid western town on it and the caption read

"People don't want things to change... they want things to stay the same but get better."

We may be small ripples in a very big ocean but so are the local news personalities and even when they reach national network status they are still small stones making ripples in a great ocean that is humanity.

But let me say that we do make a difference... blogs do make a difference. Yeah, I hope to be a writer one day and have some things I write off line that I hope will one day help me make a living but the blog, the forum and the internet are good places to see how what you write will be recieved.

crafty, you and DF and TAYL are teachers of sorts to me... I read what you write and you read what I write and that has to make a difference... I hope carlos is reading this too... our only responsiblity here is to write honestly and without fear. Our common goals as Americans make this worthwhile.

Carlos: I agree with you. I trained with old school types who wouldn't even take sound from one shot to cover another because they considered it staging. A big no no back in the day. I agree many journalists have compromised their credibility and some have abandoned impartiality.
- Like the picture of Walter Conkrite. I had the pleasure of working with him on a Discovery Channel show produced by his son Chip Conkrite. THat was in the mid-nineties. I have never seen any journalist greeted with the kind of excitement, respect, and affection as Conkrite. the general public loved him. Perhaps because they trusted him?

DM you used to work in News? I wondered why you were such a hard core questioning type cynic.

Lemme guess, Breakfast of Champions, Lazarus Long, So Long and thanks for all the fish...
am I right?

Stat: Not cynic, pragmatic. Most reporters are cynics. If I appear to be cynical it is because of their bad influence. LOL :0P

With more than 30 years in television news Carlos Amezcua has covered stories around the globe. He's been honored with many awards including 7 Emmys. His career has included assignments for CBS News, NBC News, CNN and Fox News. For 16 years Carlos was the principal news anchor on the award wining KTLA Morning News. In September of 2007 Carlos joined the number one Fox11 Ten O'clock News as Co-anchor with Christine Devine. ALTERNATIVE BIO Dude grew up on the shores of San Diego longboarding, crusin' the streets in my '66 VW and playing soccer. I played guitar in my dad's mariachi band for like ten years and saved enough money to go to college. I got straight A's in English 'cause I had to learn it as a second language. I started broadcasting on my college radio station reading news in the morning. I took a break for two years to be a missionary for my church in Guatemala and El Salvador, two beautiful countries. When I returned I surfed, played soccer, played guitar in a rock band, waited tables and went back to college radio. Along my rambling trail I met a real cute girl and married her. I moved to television reporting and had a bunch of kids by the time I was thirty. Still surfing, still playing guitar but now clearly a devoted husband and father. Dude, I even got to do a story for Walter Cronkite! I was gone alot from my family in those early years but Mary was my rock and held down the fort. Don't worry we had lots of quality family time! Somewhere in the haze that is my memory, my kids grew up to be pretty amazing. I landed at KTLA and spent 16 wonderful years there. In September of last year I parked my VW, surfboard and guitar at Fox11 and dude, I am loving life!
