I have seen blog after blog about how we should spend one day where we won't get any gas to "show" the companies mean business. To be honest one day is not going to work at all. Here is the thing. The couple days before the gas out (if one was able to be put together) people are going to go and fill up on gas so they can go through the next day without having to worry. Those who didn't get gas before hand are going to spend the next two days afterward getting gas to fill up their cars. The companies can easily make up the "loss" of one day gas out in the days surrounding it. When gas companies are making profits in the billions, one day is like chump change to them

I still like the idea of everyone not buying gas from a specific oil company for how ever long it takes. I would think that they would have to lower the price to get customers back. Then the companies who had the extra business would lower there prices trying to keep the new business they became used to.

Has it occurr4ed to any of you that if you boycott one gas company (BP) and they get an excess in their tanks, they will sell that excess to Exxon who will rape you at THEIR stations?

People, there is nothing you can do. It stinks, but it's true.

I think it's abetter idea than just giving up and saying there is nothing we can do...if we don't try then you can only blame yourselves for the continuous rise in cost. If everyone gets off their butts and tries..who can down them. The ones to be downed are the ones who do nothing then complain the prices are too high. Also don't buy from exxon and mobil..the 2 largest gas corporations.. If they have a build up because people don't buy gas from them then they will lower their prices and ..yup...right behind them will be all the little corporations lowering prices. The worse thing to do is give up and not fight it. That's America's problem. Stop complaining and get off your butts and fight for what we have work so hard to have. I'm not giving it up or groceries just to be able to afford gas. Fight for our rights. Paricipate and try to help.

Rights? We have a right to gasoline?

You'll show THEM when your tank is empty and you can't get to work to make a living!!!

Let me ask you boycotters a few questions. Show of hands here.

How many of you car pool? Not only to work, but for grocery shopping, going to the mall, to church if you do that, etc?

How many of you ride public transportation rather than drive? A full bus gets great gas mileage when 50 people can go to the same places for one tank of fuel.

How many of you live close enough to your job to ride a bike?

The point is, stop saying "Bush", "government" and "boycott" and do something viable.

Get real people we have no control over the corp world. We think if gass comes down to $208.00 we are getting a deal. We are gas dependendant and may complain but nothing is going to change. The Ethenol thing is a joke because it takes as much fossil fuel to make it as it provides. If we could get more refinerys running in this country that would help until a real alternitive is allowed to be used. We have the capability, after all this is the United States we can do anything!

M-tru, instead of "fighting" for everything, how about if we all look in the mirror and change the things we can change about ourselves first? As in, let's work to change our driving habits by reducing the things we do that waste gas. If it's convenient, maybe start a carpool to work, don't jump on the gas as hard when the light turns green, etc. If there's an agenda to push, it's to learn more about alternative renewable resources so we don't have to rely on unstable or adversarial governments for our energy.
Bottom Line:All the gas-outs and boycotts mean nothing until we learn to change our driving habits. The corporate world, greedy as it may be, isn't driving your car.

it is not going to work. your comment butterfly is right. People will fill up the day before and the day after. What will gas companies lose? Nothing. It will be us who have to go to work and spend the money on the gas. It would have to be the complete world and major contributors, truck drivers. Will not happpen. Good try everyone who wants this to happen.

Thank you, I totaly 100% agree with you that the one day is just chump change to them. Please read my blog people there are common sense ways you can save a couple of bucks and use less gas. Example get rid of those 10 mph gas hog suv's you don't really need unless you have a big family or use it for work. That is one way to help bring prices down. The fewer gas hogs that are bought then the less people needing to spend $50+ on filling up their tanks.

I am curious to know the median age here. Do any of you remember the mid 70s when gas was being rationed? You could only buy gas on odd numbered days if your plate ended in an odd number and vice versa.

I am getting the feeling that most of you weren't even born yet when that went down.

I remember gas at 37 cents, first class opstage was 3 cents, and bread was 21 cents a loaf. McDonalds hamburgers were 17 cents, 21 with cheese, and for that 37 cent gallon of gas they pumped it for you and cleaned your windshield.

We are going backwards people. It will be 1929 before you know it. Fortunately, if the downward spiral reaches bottom when I think it will, I should be dead by then.

And to all of you whining about "the government" stepping in, YOU are the government. None of those people into positions of power and decision making got there without you voting for them. "The government" is not going to step in and tell a private business to lower prices. They can not do that as governed by law. So for all of you saying "the government" should do something, make a suggestion as to what they can do rather than just whining. I am not in a financial position to laugh at these prices either, so I empathize, but they have us over a barrel (literally an oil barrel) and there is simply nothing we can do.

I'm 25 years old so no I don't remember gas rationing. I drive a Dodge Neon which gets great gas mileage. I don't see the need for anything bigger when it is just me.
