For the last couple of months, I have been reading about the increasing terrorism that has hit many countries, killed many people and has interferred with daily routines, I suspect,  destroyed our world economy.  I can't help but think our involvement in Irag has triggered some of these attacks, but I also get the feeling from reading these articles, editorials etc. there is something more going on that is being witheld from the public.

Our firepower and overall military presence does not seem to be causing any concern among these terrorists groups and it should.  Their intolerence of other religions is disprespectful, yet they demand total respect from others, or else we get blasted literally and figuratively.  I find this to be a source of concern to people like myself.  I am a peace lover, however, I don't beleive in allowing terrorists free reign. I am looking at people who have no fear of consquences of their actions toward humanity.

Why hasn't Osama Bin Laden been captured?  This bothers me.  Does it make anyone else pause to think about this? What is so special about this particular group that allows them to slip past check points, ride airplanes, slip in and out of the United States without notice. We have caught some of the small fish, but not the big fish.  They are getting away.

Bottom line, are terrorists groups running the show?

I remember when I was growing up during the Reagan and Bush Sr. years. Back then when no one dared to mess with the US, fearing its military power. What happened? I think we need to grow a spine and a sack of balls and make these people know we are serious. This whole "you can't do this and you can't do that" because we are the U.S. is a bunch of crap! Look where that is getting us.

You are right, the terror groups are running the show now because they know we are soft. :(

"I can't help but think our involvement in Irag has triggered some of these attacks"....

Maybe, but It's been going on since long before Iraq, and would still be happening if we never went into Iraq, probably more frequently.

One thing our presence in Iraq and Afghanistan does is show American resolve, something we've been lacking since Bush Sr.

We have absolutelty brought some of these attacks on ourselves, but let us not forget, that these terrorists did attack us, and will continue to attack us wether we're on the offensive or not. To them , this is about world/religeous domination, and they will not stop until they reach this end. We need to be offensive. herre's the caviat. We're using a cannon when we ought be using a B.B gun. These terrorists will never be able to beat us in a traditional confrontation, that's why they fight in the shadows of darkness and use suicide bombers and individual snipers. Yes, they have larger groups to preform "more spectacular" terrorism in the 9/11 style, but by and large, these are few and far between, require immence planning and the likelihood of being discovered is high.
Americans need to fight the way these guerillas are fighting, we need to be more silent, operate deeper in the shadows and be more viscious than our advesaries. This is how we'll win this war. BTW, we should have many more tools at our disposal than waterboarding to get information, but the Democrats want to cut and run and hinder the war effort using any means neccesary to lose this war.

Cutting and running is the absolute worse thing we can do, especially if there is an attached time-table (the most ridiculous solution I've ever heard). If these terrorist sense American weakness or lack of commitment/resolve, that will motivate them MUCH more than our presence in Iraq.

Move, your last paragraph brings something to mind. While I agree with you, many are going to bring up the "what about our standards as Americans" argument. while I agree that we must adhere to certain standards, Where does that preverbial line lie? When is it time to "take the gloves off"? How much security should we sacrifice in the name of upholding our standards?

One things for sure, if your gonna fight in the gutter, you have to actually GET IN the gutter, and form your tactics accordingly.

I really appreciate the feedback. I did a stint in the Navy overseas (Civil Service)during the Vietnam War. I saw and heard things Mainland civilians aren't exposed to. The Military can keep things under wraps when necessary, which drives the press crazy. Some of the secrecy I understand, other times it appears silly cloak and dagger stuff.

I agree-we need to get tough with terrorists. They do not take us seriously, why should they? To them were are running a clown show. To us it's called Democracy! Trouble is we have extended this courtesy to those groups who do not respect us. I might add our culture, with it's downside(drugs and violence, national tabloids, etc.) doesn't get the notice it should. We also have some top notch things going on in the U.S. which are downplayed or not mentioned at all. Americans can be very generous in a disaster and we extend this kindness to other countries. We also have educated people, but education seems be out of fashion. It bothers me that we are considered weak.

All this political infighting, fused with good old fashioned scandal, and a lot of political leaders scratching their heads with a dumb look, isn't helping. Who do we look up to? Did I cover all the bases??

Let's kick some butt. To clean the cesspool, ya gotta get dirty!!!!

I knew eventually somebody would ring my bell on that issue, that is a very insightful question Jim. From my perspective, I believe we need to use every tool available to defeat our enemy otherwise, we will not have any American Standards to defend. We will lose this war if we let the terrorist/radical Muslims hide behind our Constitution and fail to defend our American Standards in the name of the P.C culture. We need to use every means available. These folks expect total submission in the name of Allah, should we extent to them the right granted to us by OUR Constitution? I say no. Would these radicals extend the same Standards to us, without a doubt no.

I agree Move.

Artphilfree, I agree with you also, this wedge of partisanship the politicians are splitting the country with is certainly doing no good.

I am not a native of Philadelphia, but I have grown to love living here, Philadelphia. I have discovered so many cultural and fun events here that are unique and I feel Philly is a well hidden tourist spot to visit. Reports do not do it justice, we only hear the negative, not the positive. There are some great people living here in Philly. I have my own small business. I have a B.S. in Education. I joined this site because I am concerned about Philadelphia and World events politically speaking. I would like to hear what other people are thinking and share ideas and opinions.
