Let's make sense of this for a moment. If you drive drunk, you lose your license for some time making it 'more difficult' to drive a car. Is driving the car really the problem? When we keep people from driving their car, we keep them from working which leads to a lot of free time to ... drink and some may lose their job making it possible for them to collect benefits provided by the govt. In other words, we punish the driver in order to 'reward' them later.

My solution...take their license and ID and issue them another one that does not permit them to buy alcohol. Make it difficult for the drunk to get a hold of alcohol; which is the problem we should be focusing on. Treat DUI offenders like teenagers. If anyone is caught buying for or selling alcohol to a covicted drunk driver during their probationary period should suffer HUGE fines.

Does this make sense to everyone else?

Once again, the pro-lifers prove that they are in fact, not pro-life. It's time they change their name to pro-fetus b.c once you are born, they are alright with you being killed.

Pro-fetus people would like the govt. to allow 5 year olds to die. Pro-fetus people are against welfare programs and universal health care and they are the ones who would like to see the 8 year old charged as an adult so that the death penalty is an acceptable punishment. Isn't it more than obvious that they are not pro-life at all?

Quit lying about your views. Quit lying about who you are. Quit pretending that you are so much better than Obama who you accuse of being a fetus killer while you are a baby/child/adult killer.

The REAL pro-lifers need to take back the title from the liars.

Up until now, I have thought it may be possible to come out of the Bush administration without too many scars, apparently, I was wrong. He has managed to DESTROY all the work Clinton did.

Unemployment soared .4% in just one month!!! The unemployment rate is at 6.5% which is a 14 year high. Guess what was going on 14 years ago? Clinton was fixing the unemployment mess Bush's dad made and the rate was on its way down. If unemployment increases by just 1.3%, Bush would have put us exactly where we were when his daddy left office. As I learned in the past 24 hours of 800 jobs being eliminated in AZ alone, I think Bush will have an easy time making that happen. Why aren't Republicans pissed off about this!?!?!?!!?!

To those of you who are not 'volunteering' to participate in the recession, it appears more and more that you may just be drafted. Let's hope that Obama can do what Clinton did and save us from economic disaster. Here's to hope.

I would like the following explained (hopefully in your own blog so that it can be put up for everyone to read on the community pages):

1. Why are you guys are so against giving all citizens access to health care when they lose their job (especially if you claim pro-life)?

2. Why is it ok that insurance companies are making huge profits while they short change doctors and patients?

3. Why employers making millions should not be responsible to keep their employees healthy instead of just firing them if they ever get sick?

Thanks,

Jen Deranger lol

If you insist that a person considered black is a 'worse race' so that you can insult him.

If you compare someone of a mixed race to the type of dog most likely to be killed in an animal shelter.

If you compare someone of any race to a dog.

If you think that someone is going to 'black up' or 'Arab up' the White House even though the President is an American before anything else.

If you find it incredibly important to state the 'true' race of people to make a point.

If you have no problem making fun of females for being female and gays for being gay (because it isn't out of character).

If you think all illegal immigrants (Mexicans) are drunks, rapists and murderers.

If you tell jokes that make fun of a group of people using an 'accepted' stereotype.

If you think someone is less of you due to their gender, sex, and sexual orientation (none of those are choices).

If you think you aren't a racist, yet you participate in any of the above, I hate to break it to you, but you are a racist. Fortunately, being a racist is a choice. Therefore, you can choose to mend your ways and quit making racist comments and behaving in this deplorable way. It's never to late to improve yourself. Get started now. There is no time to waste.

Let's say I decide to start a business. Whatever I choose to sell, I must price it strategically. If I price it too high, no one will buy my product. If I price it too low, I won't maximize my profit and will end up doing more work than I need to. Therefore, I decide on a price that makes sense and see what happens. After some time, I may adjust my prices to best maximize my profit and minimize the work.

After running my business for a while, I want to increase my profit. If I simply raise my prices, my customer base will shrink. If I have less customers paying more, I maintain my profit, I don't increase it. My other strategy would be to hire someone to help me sell more products thereby increasing my profit. However, if I just hire someone without an increase in demand, I will end up decreasing my profits by paying them a decent wage.

Now, let's add taxes into the equation. If the govt gives me an extra $10,000-60,000 per year, what is my motivation to hire more people? The govt. has given me the increase in profit that I wanted without me needing to do anything to get it. B.c the govt. gave a huge amount to one person and not a small amount to a lot of people, they have not increased my customer base. Without an increase in customer base, I don't have an increase in demand. WIthout an increase in demand, why should I invest my money in an employee?

On the other hand, I could lower my prices b.c the govt. gave me a raise. However, if I lower my prices, I am now maximizing my work load. What is my motivation to work longer hours and decrease my hourly average?

Now, let's say I have to pay an extra amount in taxes which I benefit from the most in that my employees are using the streets to come to work for me, my kids' schools are better equipped, etc., the only way I am going to increase my profit is to sell more products. And the only way I can do that is an increase in demand. I need an increase in customers. I may need to lower my prices myself ,without govt. investment, to gain more customers which will lead to me hiring another employee. The govt. is still charging me an appropriate amount to have the streets, schools, parks, etc. that I use to make all my money. And, my employees have a better life making them better workers and more able (obviously universal health care plays a big role in this as well. Health workers = healthy profit).

That is the beleif system of the liberals and why we don't agree with REaganomic/Trickle down economics. It isn't socialism, it's business.

The only reason this matters is it exemplifies the liar that is Sarah Palin.

1. SHe doesn't look pregnant in any pictures except for 2. And in those, only her stomach looks pregnant, her face doesn't.

2. None of her co-workers thought she was preggos when she announced that she was 7 months along.

3. She removed Bristol from school and sent her to live with her aunt much like she sent her drug addict son to rehab in Michigan.

4. Bristol did not attend school from Jan-May, the months it would have been more than apparent that she was preggos.

5. There were rumors at Bristol's high school about her being preggos (believe the rumors, kids know what's going on. ALl their rumors are based on something).

6. Sarah Palin has always worn tight fitting clothes as a VP candidate, 4 months after she gave birth, yet she looks so skinny. Celebrities are rich and have access to nutritionists and physical trainers (and they train for marathons) to get skinny within 6 months. SOmehow, Sarah managed to lose all her weight without those aids.

7. Bristol missed school for 5 months due to an illness that lasts only 2-4 weeks according to WebMD and other sites.

8. Bristol got pregnant during the time she had this serious illness. If she was so seriously ill, why did her aunt let her boyfriend come over and have sex with her? Perhaps they went out to dinner, etc and it happened. Well, if she was so sick, why was she partying it up with her bf?

9. The whole birth story is crazy. Because she is 44, this preg. would have been considered high risk. B.c Trig is a Down's baby, this preg. would have been considered high risk. And...she was having the baby a 6 weeks early if you believe that she was 7 months preg. in March.

10. Deperate Housewives, a very popular show, had a story line last year in which Bree's daughter got pregnant and Bree chose to pretend she was pregnant to save face in front of her friends so that no one would know what a slut her daughter is. It worked on the show, why not give it a try. It would save the Gov. embarrassment and her daughter would have been hardpressed to be a teenage mom of a baby with special needs.

So, what do you guys think. Who's the baby mama?

Not only does Alaska have the highest rate of reported rapes, but they also have the highest rates of dropouts and the lowest number of college graduates. The Palins are the portrait of an Alaskan family.

Track, who went to the military, is a high school drop out. I imagine he joined at 19 because they relaxed their standards for enlistment.

Bristol didn't go to school for 5 months last school year. She was out from January to May for mono which usually lasts only a couple of weeks. Either she had one heckuva case that required hospitalization or her parents don't value her education or she was having a baby. And now, Bristol is barely attending school and she will miss many months again because she will give birth soon. My bet is she will drop out. if she does earn her diploma, it will only be because of who her mom is and nothing more.

Baby daddy, Levi, is yet another drop out in the pseudo Palin clan. WIth a drop out daddy and a mommy who will probably do the same, this kid is very unlikely to graduate.

It's a sad state of affairs when the person chosen to represent us is the mommy of a bunch of losers who can't finish high school. What a great reflection on the US that is.

Over the past two months, I have watched FOXNEWS so that I could hear what the Republicans think about the issues and the candidates. FOXNEWS earned a reputation of being the mouth piece for GWB and a mouth piece for the REpublican party, but for some unknown reason, I still thought that it would be a little bit impartial. I couldn't have been more wrong.

Is it just me, or are 90% of the 'anchors' on FOXNEWS Republican? Other than Colmes, it doesn't seem that anyone agrees with any of the platform of the Democratic party. Better yet, it seems that every last person on that channel wears their party affiliation on thier sleave It should come as no surprise, then, that all the stories and programming on FOXNEWS slams Democrats while ignoring anything negative about Republicans.

The other night, I watched "Obama: Ties that Bind" because I really wanted to know if the Republicans had some big bombshell that showed Obama was a terrorist supporter. They tried incredibly hard throughout this hour to make that happen, failed miserably, yet still hammered away at their disproven thesis. My Republican boyfriend laughed at the story and asked how these people call themselves journalists. Afterwards, we searched Foxnews' site to find a documentary about the Keating 5 and McCain. Or one about the past ties to an extremist religion that is in favor of spiritual mapping and warfare reminiscent of those groups that took over Iran. Nor could we find a documentary about the Alaskan Independence Party and the many anti-American sentiments voiced by past and current party members. THere was nothing, anywhere, that examined the lives of the leaders of their party.

Everyday, I surf FOXNEWS.com to see what stories the Republicans find imprtant. Everyday, there is either a pro-McCain or anti-Obama headline on the front page. They never deviate from this pattern. I can't count how many ACORN stories have been on the front page, linking Obama and the DNC to this 'rogue' group. Yet, for some reason, FOXNEWS didn't find a similar story about voter fraud committed by a group HIRED BY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY as important. I don't get it.

THerefore, I have to ask if this is everyone else's experience. Can anyone name any shows on this channel that is either impartial or left leaning? Does anyone else think that the media is ignoring the very real stories behind McCain and Palin? After all, the major player in these stories are the candidates themselves while the stories about Obama hardly involve Obama at all as he is not the lead character in any of them nor is he related by blood or marriage to ACORN nor Ayers. Please, explain why this channel seems so one-sided.

While watching 60 minutes this evening, something very surprising came to mind. I remember last year that most on this blog foretold the end of Bank of America because they were lending and giving credit cards to illegal immigrants. Many worried that the taxpayers would have to foot the bill after the illegals ran up huge bills and didn't pay them. Isn't it surprising, then, that Bank of America is the bank that is not only one of the few left standing, but is growing in this hard economic time.

Turns out, Bank of America didn't get into the sub-prime lending business because they thought it was a bad business practice. Instead, they chose to increase their customer base with illegals with good credit. Nobody else followed suit as they had enough new customers in the sub-prime market.

What does this mean? It means that illegals weren't the customers we had to worry about; it was the legal, Americans that ended up costing us an arm and a leg.

Ah, Joe the Plumber a man whose name graces shirts sold at McCain/Palin campaign rallies. His character has come to represent the working class in the US. Here's the funny, thing though, he is completely illegal. He is a plumber without a license who doesn't pay his taxes. Who else does this sound like? You got it, illegal immigrants.

Because the 2 things that anti-illegal advocates hate the most are working illegally and not paying taxes, one would think there would be plenty of outrage towards the criminal representing the Republican party. But, there isn't.

So, one has to ask oneself what is the difference between Joe Plumber and Juan Hernandez. The ONLY difference I can see is the color of their skin.

The other night, after some philosophical discussions about race in America, I realized something. Are you ready for this? The abolishment of affirmative action laws is going to be the great white male irony.

As most of you know, white people will no longer be the majority in a few short years. If you lump every minority group in the nation together, white people will be the minority. And this is without considering white women a minority. What would happen if those minorities and women banded together and decided not to hire white men b.c we didn't have to? Wouldn't it be incredibly ironic that the very laws the white men fought so hard against will be the very laws they need to be successful in the future?

Think about it. Already the white men on this site are complaining about the reverse discrimination they see on a daily basis. Perhaps they are right (right now I feel they are just whining) and the minority groups are discriminating against them. Wouldn't it be obvious then that this will continue and most likely grow in the future? If that's true, white males will need a law that protects them. Too bad they worked so hard at getting rid of it.

Karma, ain't she a BLEEP?

The Olympics are everywhere and one can't help but here all, er, some, about it. And, honestly, I don't know what to make of all of it, so I thought I would put it up for discussion.

THe Olympics are supposed to transcend politics so that the athletes can participate in the one sanctified 'holy' event that is supposed to still exist. In other words, the Olympics symbolizes hope for the world and one's country while athletes hope to win. However, the Olympic committee decided to give China a chance. And CHina has made the Olympics their own. It's a communist Chinese Olympics and the Chinese have done a lot of beating....journalists and protestors.

While China has come a long way, they are still limiting the rights of people to protest harsh treatment. Or, should China stifle protests and punish people for disrtupting a tradition? Is this not the time to show one's dissention with the govt.? Is protesting the Chinese govt. unpatriotic if you are Chinese?

I see both sides of those coins. And, honestly, I don't know what to think about this. In my heart, I bleed Liberal blue and think Americans should choose not to watch, etc. But, I also think it would be nice to set aside my disagreement with the Chinese and enjoy my own freedoms. So, what do you all think? Down with CHina (why are we trading with them and not Cuba? Potential for money me thinks) or Bring it Beijing?

Isn't funny how times change? Many have expressed their belief that 'we are fighting the terrorists there so that we don't have to fight them here'. While there was no basis for this opinion, the Republicans fed it their people, who ate it up and regurgitate every chance they get. On the other hand, some of us just can't believe anything anyone says without looking up the facts and deciding if an opinion was warranted. My stance on this one has always been the same; the trends don't support this at all.

Ah yes, I have written this before. As a math tutor, it is my job to explain how trends are formed, what their purpose is and how to predict what will happen (this is how I teach y=mx+b and I have incredibly results with this method). Therefore, I knew that the statement "we must attack them here, so they don't attack us here" had to be based in a trend. So I looked it up. Based on data that showed, on average, we are attacked every 8 years and it usually happens when a new President takes office (provided the new Pres wasn't the outgoing VP). We are attacked, however, very often on their turf, the Middle East.

Now, finally, someone has agreed with me. Sen. Joe Liberman has echoed my comments. He supports McCain and he asserts that "our enemies will test the new President early. Remember the truck bombing of World Trade Center happened in first year of Clinton's presidency and 9-11 happend the first year of the Bush administration." I guess now you have to ask. A vote for McCain means another all out war for any attack that happens done by a rogue group that is sacraficing  a country that doesn't supports its views. A vote for Obama means an appropriate response like bombing the terrorists and taking care of govt. that support these terrorists like those in Africa, especially Afghanistan. Want to get Osama? Vote Obama!!!

After writing a bunch of posts on why I believe that off-shore drilling is just a ruse and a political trick McCain is using in order to be put in office, I decided to give a viable solution that makes a lot more sense than keeping any dependance on oil. Some of this may actually surprise you as much as it did me. I couldn't believe the US was so far behind, but then again, I did live in Europe for 2 months and found this to be true on many levels, but that's another story.

A few weeks ago, I watched an interview about electric powered cars and discussed it with my bf, the robotics engineer. He explained, as did this ed. show, that we don't yet have the technology to make batteries strong enough for this technology to work. The person who figures that out is going to be "..a very rich man." Currently, the Asians own this market and are able to run a car for 40 minutes on a single charge. As McCain understands this and has offered a $300 million prize for developing a better automobile battery. Obviously this was an incredibly stupid business move as this race is already on. And the race is in Asia, not the US.

It seems crazy to believe that the up and coming technology isn't being invested in heavily and is largley ignored by the masses. Would you believe that the US doesn't really make batteries? I remembered that the woman they interviewed expressed her desire to have batteries for whatever she was involved with made in the US, but couldn't find a company in the US to make them. Well, I can't find that transcript but here is something I did find to collaborate her story: "The fact that the U.S. has little battery cell production is a major hurdle for domestic electric vehicle makers, he noted, as it makes purchasing cells costly, and limits the diversity of the supply." (earth2tech.com by Katie Fehrenbacher).

Having said that, I'd like to know if you still think that offshore drilling that, at the earliest, won't be online for 4 years is a better place to hedge our bets or battery powered cars that get their charge from solar, wind, hydro and geo-thermal power?
