I would like to know why some customers are always so rude.  I have worked in the retail field for 15 years and the behavior of some of the customers never ceases to amaze me.

I would also like to know why there are store policies on returns and price adjustments, when all a customer has to do is cause a stink and the policies go out the window.

God forbid we make a customer angry or upset.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr....................it just makes me crazy!

Some customers can be idiots. But on the reverse side, do you know how maddening it is when you are treated like the cashier is doing you a favor when they wait on you? I can't tell you the last time I got a thank you from the WAWA cashiers in Brookhaven.

Yes, Rick, I too have been on the other side of the counter and experienced a thankless experience at certain stores. That too is exasperating. Maybe it's just a matter of manners...................................
and that certain people have forgotten theirs.

better late than never..... I work at a c_store/gas station in Plymouth meeting. my customers are either idiots, A-holes, or the ones that roll their money into balls and throw it to you, don't tell you the pump #, and walk out the door. The best ones are the "No habla english" customers. stick a bill in your face and point to their car like I'm supposed to be f_ing psychic.

but that's just my world.

Nah, not just your world, THE world, sad to say.
I have to say most of my customers are great, but there are some that are just doozies!!
FYI, the other day, a woman brought a jacket up to the cash wrap and announced "This jacket has a thread! And we all know that theads can be fatal."

Well, I guess I missed the report on that one, because I did not know that!!!

I am so glad I know now. I would not want any fatalities in my store, not good for biz, ya know?

LOL. I often wondered what the reaction would be if I balled the customers change up and threw it back to them?

Also, how would they like it if I picked up my cell phone and made a call while not saying a word to them?

Mark my words, one of these days......

Maybe it's just the mean in me, but, whenever a customer comes into the store we are to greet them immediately, so...................
when they're on their cell, I make it a point to go right up to them and welcome them in the loudest voice I can manage. They hate that!!

And I actually had a customer walking a stroller with a sleeping baby 'shush' me as I welcomed them. She didn't want me to wake up her baby!!! OMG!!!! AARRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!

If everyone had to do a week in retail, the world would be a much nicer place. Dealing with the public is the hardest job in the world, this coming from someone that has never worked in retail. The WaWa stores I go to along Rt. 38 and in Barnegat, NJ, have very good cashiers. They always say, "Thank You, Sir. Have a nice day."

Hey Quagmire...your comment is perfect as this is customer service appreciation week. For real!!
I agree with your comment about everyone should work 1 week in the retail field to see what it's like. Most of my days are awesome, but the ones that aren't, well, all I gotta say is, I must be CRAZY to still be in this field!!! Gotta run, new Family Guy coming on!!

They always say, "Thank You, Sir. Have a nice day."

That's nice, provided the customer is a man.

Ain't retail great ?

One morning, my FIRST customer asked for a box of 2 inch nails.
I gave him a box of 2 inch nails.

On the top, front and the remaing 3 sides of the box, it has "2 Inch Nails" written on it.

The manufacturer was thoughtful enough to put a cellophane window on the top of the box so people could SEE the nails.

The guy asked me "Can I open the box to see how long they are" ?

I said no, cause open packages are a tough sell.

But, c'mon, how long did he THINK they were gonna be ?

Did he think when he took a nail out of the box, it would just KEEP coming out, like when a magician pulls a silk handkerchief out of his nose ?

JT, now THAT I would like to see!! lol

Worked Sunday, my first customer's purchase was $7.00, and paid with a $100.00 bill.
ANNOYING............my register only has a $200.00 cash drawer................

You know, only crazy people work (and stay!) in retail......................

Call me crazy!!!!

Invariably, whenever someone pays with a C note they say, "I only have a hundred".

And I always say

"That's a good problem to have".

I have to be serious (Yeah imagine that)
For all of us retail workers out there, A quick reminder that it's close to that time of year again. When people who are too lazy to work all year long decide that they need money to buy Christmas items, and it's easier to rob us at gun point.

Best deterrent that I use, I have a 9 screen surveillence monitor facing the door so that everybody knows they have 9 cameras watching them, and I say hello to them before they even get both feet in the door.

It's kept me safe all these years.
keep your eyes open, keep your cash drawers at lowest cash amount possible, and most importantly keep yourself safe.
