I'm a big fan of Ted Perry and his feature "Ted's Take" on FOX 6 News at 10.  He hit the nail on the head last night when he referenced the mud-slinging that has become the hallmark of this presidential campaign.  Barack Obama made reference to putting "lipstick on a pig", the McCain campaign thought he was calling Sarah Palin a pig because of her "hockey mom" reference during her acceptance speech at the convention, and the whole thing has disintegrated into a name-calling contest.

As Ted rightfully pointed out, how does this benefit the 140 employees that will be laid-off from Bemis Corporation's Menomonee Falls facility?  Thousands of people are being laid-off across the country, and all we hear are schoolyard names and accusations.  Issues, anyone?  Anybody?

Perhaps it was naive of me to believe that we could have a presidential campaign where both sides stuck to laying out their solutions to the problems of this country.  Yes, we can all get a list of proposed solutions on the candidates' websites.  But truth be known, most voters don't dig that deep.  We get most of our political news from the sound bites we see on TV and hear on radio.

Okay, okay, I get the main thrust of each campaign.  Both sides are agents of change.  I understand that notion.  Everybody wants to distance themselves from the Bush administration and a do-nothing Congress.  And I get the fact that Sarah Palin has been brought in to energize the Republican party.  Making rock stars out of politicians is now working for both sides.

Solutions to the issues of this country?  Lost in the name-calling.  Ah yes, politics as usual.  Silly me, I thought things would be different this time around.

Never wrestle with a pig, as the old saying goes.  You both get all dirty, and the pig loves it.  Anybody offended by that?

Vince,
The mud slinging been going on for a year and 1/2. It was surprising to see Hillary back Obama, after all the words shared. It doesn't make sense.

Your right, the best way to get real political info, is to search it out yourself. The bias of certain (fox 6 not included) members of the media doesn't help.

I'm starting to think 24 hour news channels, were a bad idea.

I, am not a Democrat, nor am I a Republican. And, I agree that Ted's take last night was very well said and right on. Nobody is going to be swayed by such lunacy.

However, I think there is some blame to be burdened by the media. (sorry, don't mean to overly whine) Instead of spending time on what was clearly a pretty lame attempt at humor, and a back-sided jab, they ought to be focusing on the substance of what political candidates say.

Spend a segment a week talking about Obama and McCains health agenda's, about their philosophy of the role of the judiciary, ect. ect.

As I see it, journalistic media has the responsibility to inform, and do so accurately without bias. But, most of the time, I feel as though I expect too much.

The mudslinging began 8 years ago when the republicans beat MOVEON.ORG . How dare americans decide for themselves who should be in office .

Now I know you've heard this before, but, what the heck.....

Check out Ron Paul. Write him in. Many are.
He speaks of real change. I'm looking forward to Jesse and Ron running in 2012. I know writing him in won't mean he'll win, but it sure will show the people are sick of this sideshow.
The Republicrats circus is enough to drive anyone crazy.

How bout just spend some time REPORTING THE FACTS!!!

Hold these politician's words to the fire... Palin and McCain are lying through their mavrick lipsticked teeth and the media does NOTHING!

I mean its not hard to just roll your own footage of their speaking at other events where they clearly say the opposite. Isn't that a lie?

Letting this carnival freakshow of "facts" continue is a sin worthy of expulsion from journalism... ComeOn... report the news and SPEAK TRUTH TO POWER. Thats what we need from the fourth branch of government.

The only one in the media that was willing to ask questions that the American people want to know is Bill O'Reilly.

Hillary all of a sudden Barrak's shaddy friends, voting 58 million to Tony Rezko no longer a special interest?

If Ron Paul wanted to make change, he can't do it on his own. Leiberman wanted change too that why he backs McCain.

He won't get elected on his own, there for he should work with McCain and get in the cabinet.

McCain has made it known, that party won't matter, when looking for reformer to fill his cabinet.

This is the only part that I don't get Vince.

Obama takes jab's at McCain for I don't know how long, than Palin joins the ticket. Than accusation after accusation against her is launched and nothing is said by the main stream or anyone on the right.

McCains camp runs adds pointing out how Obama has voted and things he has said and it is automaticlly dubbed "negitive attack ads" and you all come out of the wood work saying can't we just stick to the issues!

Where are the blogs about how Obama says he is against/doesn't support a certain issue that McCain runs an ad about but all one has to do is search the internet a little bit and find audio or video of him saying the opposite????

The words "swine," "hogs," and "pigs" refer to animals of the porcine family or pig family. The term swine can also refer to the pig family in a general way, and "pig" can be used in referencing young animals. "Hog" will generally refer to animals at or nearing market weight or finished for market. The term "barrow" means a neutered male, and "gilt" means a young female.

Harleys are often referred to as Hogs. :)

Here's more:
2007 was the Chinese year of the Pig.

Male pigs are called boars, female pigs are also called sows, and baby pigs are called piglets.

Pigs are surprisingly intelligent.

to Muslims, the pig will send you to Hell.

It's a saying, that mean same book different cover.

One can say that Obama's health care plan is the same one Hillary tried to pass for 8 years.

or.

THat Obama's health plan is equal to putting lipstick on a Pig.

Which is saying take Hillary's name off and put Obama's on.

^ ^ lame ^ ^

Obama will be the next President.

Everyone's feeling the financial sting....but MOSTLY it's the MIDDLE CLASS. They're feeling this recession.....losing their homes.....filing bankruptcy.....increasing debt........they want their way of life back that they worked so hard to attain.

If we go on like this for four more years.....it's GAME OVER......for all of us.

THE GAP BETWEEN THE DISPROPORTIONATELY FEW, BUT FILTHY RICH AND COUNTLESS POOR IS DANGEROUSLY UNBALANCED!

Resistance is futile.

(Release your Fears...."Luke"....i mean rasguy24.......feel the power of "CHANGE")

....it's inevitable.

Obama couldn't fix the economy, his tax cuts will raise inflation do to his tax increase on other sectors.

2nd, Wall street will be hit hardest by the tax cuts. Do you really want to watch your 401 K dwindle.

Obama has trouble one on one , that could be dangerous on the World level. He give in easily we'll lose our butts on the world market.

MishellJ, try reading the book instead of just looking at the cover.

Remember cause and effect. The end result i s Obama's health care won't pass. It hasn't in 8 years with dem control.

His economic plan sounds sweet but will have a bitter taste in the end.

What it all boils down to is: a battle between Capitalism v Socialism.

Neither is "perfect".

And when you have Obama, by his tax and domestic proposals advocating as mishellj stated:

"THE GAP BETWEEN THE DISPROPORTIONATELY FEW, BUT FILTHY RICH AND COUNTLESS POOR IS DANGEROUSLY UNBALANCED!"

Then, you are arguing that it is the role of government to come in and balance things by taking money from the "filthy rich" and giving to the "countless poor". You can "put lipstick" all over it, but call it what it is: income redistrituion, which is a basic socialist tennent.

No amount of lipstick can hide that.
