If you have not heard about the Volvo Ocean Race, man are you missing out!  For anyone who enjoys watching extreme sports, this is a must see.  The race began in October so there is still time to get caught up in the action without missing a lot.  The teams are extremely skilled and the sailing footage is amazing.  The web site is full of all the information and contains the volvo ocean race tv for all to watch.  I have not yet picked my favorite team because they are all so impressive.

The most bizarre incident happened on Saturday.  It was around 2:00 in the afternoon and I was passing by the living room window and noticed huge clouds of some sort of insects flying all around the front yard.  Thousands of them.  I rushed to close the windows and doors in fear that these insects might try to get in the house.  The sound was unbelievable.  That is when I realized that the insects were bees.  As I looked out the window I could not believe my eyes. Huge clouds of bees flying in this one location for about 10 minutes.  I thought for sure they would move on but unfortunately they landed on a fushia plant outside of the living room window.  I could not believe it.  As I watched out the window, I witnessed one of the most spectacular events that happens during the spring.  It gave me chills just watching all the bees cluster to protect the queen in an attempt to find a new hive.  This is called swarming.  Little did I know about this before it happened.  After talking to a beekeeper, he informed me that the bees are not forming a hive and should move on within a day or so.  Well, it is now 3 days later and they are still here.  It wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't see them swarm.  The household fear is the swarm is going to move on every time we are outside.  I couldn't even imagine getting  caught in the middle of a swarm.  The beekeeper insisted that a swarm of bees are harmless and one should remain as calm as possible and continue walking if you happen to encounter swarming bees.  Well, it still leaves my nerves a bit shaky.  Anyhow, I have learned a lot from this incident.  I have gained a ton of knowledge in the structure of bee colonies.  No bees no life source.  The worse part is that every time I work in the yard or water, I will be completely paranoid and will be checking every plant so I do not disturb a nesting colony for fear of an attack! Nature, you just gotta love it.
