A friend of mine was heading home tonight from downtown and we were near BB's Blues, Jazz and Soups...we were stopped at a red light just down Broadway and he made a left turn and I laughed and called him a rebel.  The street was a one way so he figured he could turn....we are both wondering now if that was right or not.  He figured since it was one way that you could turn left at the light just like you can make a right on red.  Do you know if this is legal or not?

At the hardware store that is!  I'm sure many of you did.  I went to the local hardware store to buy a 12 lb bottle of ice melt and it was over 9 dollars. I heard many grunts and comments about how ridiculous it was to have to pay that much.  I also bought some windshield washer/deicer for almost 6 dollars.  By the time I was through I spent over 30 dollars on a one day snowstorm.  This is definitely a time to own a hardware store.

What did you have to buy today and how much did you spend?

There is a major pothole causing damage to vehicles driving on Highway 40 near the construction at Brentwood. I got this email from a viewer over the weekend with a very valid question. Do you know the answer?

Monica,

Myself along with about 5-6 other automobiles hit a series of potholes in the middle of the 40 construction at Brentwood Sunday around 11. The potholes caused all cars to have flat tires, one was undriveable and had to be towed, my car has extensive damage to the frame. I will be filing a complaint with Gateway but was wondering if you or anyone that reports on the construction has heard of these problems? MODOT was
basically no help and simply told me to call Gateway and
that I was pretty much at their mercy. Do we have any
options with this problem, does Gateway have contractual
obligations to maintain a safe highway in the construction
zones?

Thank You

Monica,

I wanted to let you know that the problem is not fixed and MODOT was repairing tires and cars again this (tuesday) morning. There were about 5 cars on the side of the highway, and my girlfriend hit the same hole. This is not an average pothole, I guessed it to be 8-10 inches deep and 3-4 feet long when I hit it.

It should be a no brainer to put that seatbelt on when you get in the car but evidentally many motorists are still forgetting or just plain breaking the law.  MoDot says 65 percent of the 582 fatal accidents last year showed motorists not wearing their seatbelts.  The nationwide Click It or Ticket campaign kicks off today.  You are being warned!

Be Honest, do you click yours when you get behind the wheel?  Let's save some lives by strapping you in!

Can you imagine writing a plea on the world wide web telling people not to buy gas on May 15th and suddenly it grabs worldwide attention? You have so much power that news crews start using it as a top story! Will you be swayed by this internet plea and news coverage to wait until tomorrow to buy gas? If you are close to empty and you see a good deal, will you really pass it up? How much power do we in the media and this trend setter really have?

On the same note, what other pleas would you like to start?

I lost my dog to one of the crazy drivers we have been talking about on this website for some time. My dog Kozmo was struck and killed by someone driving way too fast in a neighborhood. The speed is 25 mph and this heartless person had to have been driving 40 or faster in a neighborhood full of kids. I choose to be positive about this, now that I have fought through the tears, and believe that she had to die to save a child that may have been struck; whether it was today or possibly days away. I have to believe this would make the driver wake up and slow down from now on so as not to injure the life of a child or an adult down the road.  I can not believe you could hit something or someone and not stop but if you don't have a heart than yes,  I guess I can believe.

I adopted Kozmo from the Humane Society less than a year ago. She brought so much joy in my life and I can't believe she is gone. I will remember the good times we shared and her sweet puppy dog eyes!

Let this blog remind you to SLOW down and drive the speed limit, life can be taken away in just a second.

I was training a client the other day and she was telling me a story of a traffic jam when she was in the produce section of the grocery store.  We laughed so hard and I immediately thought I needed to blog about this!

She told me to ask all of you whether you agree that there are specific lanes you should follow when you are grocery shopping or anywhere where you are using a cart.  Is there a right or wrong direction to be heading?  There was a big tie-up near the tomatoes and she tapped a lady on the shoulder telling her she was the reason everyone was almost crashing into one another.  The lady said oh I didn't realize there were specific lanes.

So what do you think and do you have a funny story to share about cart driving? :-)

You are using caution this morning as you hit the roads and I commend you.  While many of you are experiencing wet roads only, you realize the temperatures are dropping and could change to ice in seconds.  Keep it slow on the bridges, ramps, overpasses as we see those as the first indicators of problems and normally a list of accidents follow.  Glenn is keeping you updated on where the sleet, ice and snow is ALREADY  falling so it may not be far from where you travel.
Vacuum cleaner has always written me to pass along the idea of using Call A Ride if you are in a jam or wanting to avoid driving in these conditions.  Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Tips to remember, keep a good car's length PLUS between you and the car ahead of you, keep your travel speed much below regular speeds as black ice could pop up on you or slick conditions you are not expecting.  When it gets light out be sure to keep those headlights on so other cars can see you.  Remember it is a law when you have those windshield wipers on, you must have your lights on!  You might want to put an emergency kit in your trunk if you have not already; including gloves, scarf, hat, heavy coat, maybe an extra sweatshirt and pants, socks, bag of salt, scrapers, jumper cables, flashlight, snacks in the event you become stranded and a charged cell phone.
Any other suggestions?

We are talking about the beginning of the Highway 40 project this morning in the news, with the bulldozing of homes to take place next month and then lane closures on 170 and 40 right around the corner. It is going to be a nightmare for years trying to get around 40, 170 or any roads in that area. We want to make it as easy as possible and the best way to do that is to have you, the driver, help us report on the easiest routes to get around the area, the length of the drive on your highway and alternate highways you are "seeing" as a better route. I want to have a handful of our viewers join John and I as we report traffic to you in the morning. Here is what I need from you:
1)What highway do you drive?
2)Are you already finding alternate routes
3)What time of the morning do you travel and for how long?
4)Is there a way for me to contact you in the morning if I want you to be on with us?

This is your big break, so let me hear from you and be sure to leave contact information either here or on my email at monica.adams@fox2ktvi.com. Can't wait to have you join our team! Monica Adams

I got an email from a friend of mine in L.A. the other day and he talked about how he dislikes this time of year (January-March) because there really isn't anything to look forward to. He moved from this area a year or so ago and mentioned it is a little better in California since it is sunny. This got me wondering what all of you look forward to during the winter months, what activities you do to keep you and your family busy or if you take road trips to get out of town? Let's get rid of the gloomy attitude and find things to make us happy. It is up to you to save our winter 2007! LOL :-) I look forward to your answers.

Kevin Steincross and I were talking this morning about what he encountered on the roads as the wind blew debris into his car. We were laughing about the scenario and it led me to want to post this blog about the craziest things you have driven over and then found attached to your car on your drive. We have blogged before about all of the debris we encounter, blown out tires, mufflers, pieces of bumpers, mattresses, you name it. How many of these did you drag with you for miles and miles? Tell us about your experience.

THIS IS A MUST READ FOLKS!

I mentioned this during the height of the storm last week but must reiterate it today, knock those ice sheets off your car before you hit the road. We are seeing tons of accidents caused by heavy sheets of ice that are beginning to melt and forcing them off of your vehicle, flying through the air and onto either the hood, windshield or back of someone else's vehicle or else onto the road where it is getting smashed down and causing an ice patch. These sheets are so thick and heavy they are causing damage to vehicles, busted windshields and sending hearts through people's throats as this loud bang hits their car leading them to believe they have been in an accident.

How many of you are still seeing cars packed down with ice and do you have anything you want to add to this frustration?

I just got back from a convention in Vegas and saw so many accidents that could have been prevented on the highways and side roads. I heard Fox viewers in Vegas griping about people not yielding to get on the highway and thinking they have the right to just scoot right on and the person in that lane should automatically get out of your way (My biggest pet peeve by the way), others hating that people don't use their blinkers, not fixing brake lights that are out..and so on and so on..so my question to all of your drivers...........Fill in the blank

What is your biggest driving pet peeve?

We all know how great an outfit looks when you have the right accessories, well the same applies to a good car. Many of you know I have my corvette up for sale and just bought a BMW a few months back. I got an incredible deal but had two things I would want to change to make it more "my" car. One is to dim the windows, for glare and privacy, and to customize my wheels and tires.

I want to know what you think makes a car look its best and really turns heads. Is it:

A) The wheels

B) The color of the car

C) Customized hoods, doors, etc

D) Other things....(like dvd screens on the seats, the interior of the car, all its bells and whistles inside, the stereo, etc..........Fill in the blanks

If you have any ideas to really make a car looks its best let me know. I will post before and after pictures once I get this all in the works.

Aside from my work at Fox 2, I am also the host of The Health & Fitness show on KMOX Sundays from 1-3pm. I have been the Head Fitness Trainer at Riverchase of Fenton for almost 9 years. I also write a health article for Streetscape Magazine in St. Charles. As for my personal hobbies, some of my greatest passions in life all relate to music. I have been singing and dancing since I was 3. I have also been an athlete since I was a kid, excelling in the sports of soccer, softball and basketball. I am extremely close to my family and miss my father daily. We lost him September 12th 1995. He and my mom would dance and you would think it was poetry in motion. My mother is one of my dearest friends, I have two brothers and a sister, all of whom are older. I am blessed to have many friends and acquaintances. I also love animals and have a beautiful dog named Kyra, who just turned 8 in September. I also adopted Kailei from the Humane Society of Monroe County in May of 2007, she is an amazing puppy. She is being trained by Casey and Shelly Ray with Team Dog St. Louis. I swear they are just like Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer. They even have their own little pack :-). Give me my family, friends, a great man that I fall in love with, pets, music, sports, a nice restaurant, a good martini and a sharp sports car and I could live forever! :-) LOL. Thanks for reading.
