Working in the City period, many would like to leave it behind for the night.... Now dealing with the current issues at hand afflicting the PPD, there is a cry for more Police Officers! A lot more!

HIRE MORE POLICE OFFICERS! Let them live where they want! These men and women work hard to provide for their Families for protecting ours!  I know some Philadelphia Police Officers who would LOVE to live in the suburbs! God knows how many times they have asked over the years- Give them more help!

It is now time to put this issue to bed and let them live within a reasonable distance from the City- Look! Bensalem to Philadelphia is a 8 minute shot down I 95! How hard is that to change regulations in becoming an officer? You will get more in return of you give just give them what they deserve.....

Psssst.... And let the State Police patrol the Major highways- Gives the locals more time helping and assisting in their neighborhoods that they are assigned to :D

Are more police officers the answer? I think the answer is yes but not full time police officers. The police departements can also have police reserves or volunteer police. There can also be augmentee civil rights observers attached to the police department.

What is is they are doing in other cities of similar demographics that have less problems? Why is it we give people guns some training and send them into neighborhoods where they would have never set foot in had they been unarmed? Perhaps it's time to recruit a militia from the population served.

I definately think that if these officers had a choice to live where they wanted, I know that we would have more Officers in Philadelphia- It is a City to be proud of, taking in the history- We should be proud- We should be taking pride- We should be protecting our own- Yes, we need more Officers :D

Statueman, Are you serious? Would you be a volunteer Police Officer? I think not.

Yes the answer is to hire more police, however, the main problem is to get the judicial system cleaned up. Stop letting career criminals out. Stop the hand holding of people who think they are above the law. Get the guns off the street. If it is against the law to have a gun and usually the criminals are the ones who have the gun, isnt there a breakdown in the system? Start holding the parents responsible for young children who commit crimes, maybe then the parents would teach their children instead of spending all their time doing crack & God knows what else. Get the drugs off the street. Stop the mindset that these so called innocent people are usually career criminals and not so innocent.

Should the police be able to live outside of Philadelphia? I dont know. My husband is a philly cop & yes while it would be nice to live in the suburbs, I dont know if the cops would have the same dedication to the city. This is 1 issue that I think will never be resolved. There are too many pros & cons on both sides.

And lastly for the recod, the State Police do patrol the major highways such as I-95 and the Expressway.

Your very welcome.

As for where to live, I'd bet, if you take 10 cops, 1/2 would say in the city, 1/2 would say out. I can agree to points on both sides of this issue. In my own situation, we'd live in the city, both are born & raised in South Philly, still living in South Philly. This doesnt have anything to do with jobs, just our choice to stay in this area.

DFratt,

I am serious and yes I would. A few years after the Los Angeles riots I joined the National Guard in Southern California. On a three occasions I've stopped groups of thugs from beating up on others. One of those times was during basic training.

During my stint in the Guard I met a few soldiers who were also volunteer police officers in a city near San Diego.

Why is it that you assume I would not become a volunteer police officer? What is it I am saying that pegs me as a coward? Is it perhaps that I am calling cops who would beat subdued suspects criminals? Do you not consider that criminal behavior by Police Officers?

More on topic... this is an issue of principles and not personalities. I'm glad for dedicated and law abiding Police Officers and their families. I think your point about living in the area you serve increasing dedication to the job shows depth and concern. I worry however that a scapegoat issue has crept into the thinking of many well meaning individuals who do not see that video for what it is.
