"Over the river, and through the wood,

Nowgrandmother's cap I spy!

Hurrah for the fun!

Is the pudding done?

Hurrah for the pumpkin pie!

---Lydia Maria Child (1802-1880)

A rainy start to the day, but if this had been the weekend, with the frigid air that was here, it would have been another winter wonderland out there.

But milder temperatures moved in from the southwest along with the rain, so for most of us, with the exception of the higher elevations in the Poconos, it's just liquid precipitation.

After the morning rush, the rain is mostly out of here, save for a few drops or flurries leftover as the system exits this afternoon.   Temperatures fall through the forfties this afternoon, bottoming out in the mid thirties tonight.

Wednesday:   Traveling throughout the northeast should be fine, unless you're headed toward the Great Lakes.   That's where the Lake Effect snow should be falling, in the usual spots, such as Buffalo and Cleveland.    For us, there may be a few flurries tomorrow, and highs are in the low to mid forties.

Turkey Day:   Just fine!   Just like your time with your family, we hope.   Plenty of sunshine on Thursday, and a high in the mid to upper forties.   Perfect for grabbing a jacket and taking a nice walk after dinner.

Friday:  It's often bitterly cold on the day after Thanksgiving, and you have to figure out what to do with the heavy coat while you're shopping at the mall.   Not the case this year:  look for a mix of sun and clouds, a high close to 50-degrees, and some rain at night.

The Rest Of The Weekend:  After some rain in the morning on Saturday, the rest of the holiday weekend should be chilly and dry.

Hope you have a chance to spend the holiday with someone you love....

The cold air is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.  Think layers.

Clouds will increase for the drive home this evening, so I don't expect temperatures to be as cold tonight.

A weak clipper system will swing through on Thursday, but moisture looks limited.  Stray flurries are all that I expect, especially North and West on Thursday.

Friday and Saturday, however, looks unstable from a lake perspective.  Lake Erie and Ontario should fire up the snow guns again with snow showers especially NORTH and WEST.

Highs Wednesday34 to 38 degrees.

Mix of sun & clouds.  Feels like January.  Blustery cold.

Winds: NW 10 - 15 mph, Gusts to 25 mph.

Clouds increase.  Winds drop off. Not as cold.

FRIDAY: Mix of sun and clouds, snow showers especially north and west.  High near 40 degrees.

"Isn't it awful that cold feet make for a cold imagination and that a pair of woollen socks induce good thoughts?"   - Franz Grillparzer (1791-1872), Austrian author.

This is the time to pull out the woollen socks....the woollen anything!

The cold, cold temperatures that arrived on Sunday are hanging around for quite a while.

In fact, it'll be getting even colder.

There will be a few snow flurries or sprinkles around today, as we watch an offshore low.      But the big weather headline is the WIND.    They'll be picking up during the afternoon, eventually reaching sustained levels of 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

So, it'll be a mix of sun and clouds today, with a high of only 40-degrees.   With the wind, it'll feel even colder.

Even colder on Wednesday, with a high in the upper thirties.   That's normal for January!

On Thursday, a clipper-system zips through with some light rain and/or snow showers.  They shouldn't amount to much, maybe a coating on the lawns.    And Thursday is the warmest day of the week, when the high reaches 42!

More cold air builds in with high pressure on Friday and Saturday.   High only around 40-degrees each day.

These chilly, chilly temepratures are sticking around for a while.  Gotta get back to knitting.......

When lows start dropping into the 20s and highs fail to get out of the 30s, you can say, "it feels like January in Philadelphia."  This is what is going to happen by Wednesday.  Prepare for the bitter cold.  Snow showers north and west and scattered flurries here in the City will be possible late Monday night into Tuesday and again, on Thursday. The lake response from Erie and Ontario will be dramatic by early Tuesday morning.  Watch for this on radar.

Tonight: 28 to 33 degrees from suburb to city

Scattered clouds.  Turning significantly colder.

Winds: W 5 - 15 mph.

Highs Monday:  43 to 47 degrees.

Mix of sun & clouds, less wind.

Winds: W 5 - 15 mph, Gusts to 20 mph.

MONDAY NIGHT:  Few flakes develop.  Low near 31 degrees.

TUESDAY:  Mostly cloudy. Wet flakes especially North and West where snow showers may persist due to lake effect.  High near 42 degrees.

WEDNESDAY: Mix of sun and clouds, dry and colder.  Feels like January. High near 37 degrees.

Showers. Turning much cooler after midnight.

Winds: SW to W 5 - 15 mph, gusts to 25 mph.

Highs Sunday:  47 to 51 degrees.

Mix of sun & clouds, gusty winds.

Winds: W 10 - 25 mph, Gusts to 35 mph.

MONDAY: Mix of sun & clouds. Wet flakes late in the afternoon and evening. High near 47 degrees.

Strong southerly winds are coming on Saturday with exceptional warmth.  Highs on Saturday will be near 72 degrees.  Note:  Record high on Saturday is 81 degrees set back in 1993.  This record is safe.

In the meantime, a Dense Fog Advisory is in effect until 10 AM for the viewing area.  A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from 7 AM to Noon today along the Jersey Shore and Delaware Bay due to minor tidal flooding.

Fog and low clouds will create drippy conditions today.  I am not expecting any sunshine for your Friday.  More rain develops later tonight.

Highs Friday:  59 to 63 degrees.

Foggy, cloudy, drippy and warm.

Winds:  VRB / S 3 - 8 mph.

Tonight: 51 to 56 degrees from suburb to city

Showers developing, foggy and mild.

Winds: S / E 5 - 10 mph.

SATURDAY:  T-storms, windy, gusts to 40 mph.  Some hazy sun possible.  High near 72 degrees.

SUNDAY:  Mix of sun and clouds, windy, gusts to 30 mph.  Temps. fall after a midnight high.  High near 53 degrees and settling into the 40s.

"There is nothing new except what is forgotten."  - Rose Bertin, milliner to Marie Antoinette

A new weather pattern today, as we get rain moving in from the southwest.   It keeps us cloudy and rainy for the rest of the day.   The high gets to about 53-degrees.

Tonight, fog forms and some drizzle hangs around.   Low in the upper forties.

Tomorrow, we get a bit of a break between rainy systems.   But skies remain mostly cloudy,  with milder air moving in.   The high is in the 60s on Friday.

Saturday looks like another rainy day, and we add some gusty breezes, too.  Still mild, in the sixties again, until the rain stops.

Rain ends by Saturday night.   Much chillier air moves in on Sunday, when the sunshine returns, but the high does not even make it to 50-degrees.
