People like to think that being politically correct is a good thing. Imagine what would happen if your family member should be struck down by a dire disease, but nobody would help because you were seen as a member of a majority and the disease only affected "your kind." Wouldn't that be discrimination? And wouldn't it be viewed as hardhearted? Some people don't think like that. And be warned, there are honestly people-the same folks who think phrases like "Devils Food Cake" are bad-who align themselves with this kind of thinking. This story comes from our good friends in Canada. Also, take note, this is a nation that has nationalized health care....it gives one pause n'est-ce pas?

There was a tee shirt awhile back that said the IQ of any group of people goes down the more people there are or something like that. I posted earlier how utterly stupid and mindless it is to have these silly early shopping hours and hyped up sales the day after Christmas. I mean, when I hear two sisters who talk about shopping for 16 hours like it was a trip to the beach, there is something wrong. Do these people not know how to do anything except consume? At any rate, in the story below, you will see the consequences of all this madness. It's sad that it takes injury or death to bring reality to some people.

Dear Lord,
We thank you for what we have.
We appreciate what you have done for us.
Please, though, Lord, remember that we are weak
We cannot know what tomorrow brings.
We hope, but we also fear.
We aren't asking to get rich, Lord, we are simply asking to get by.
We've been promised hope by politicians and business leaders and evangelists
But that kind of hope is just for show, it's not the substance that we need.
So, Lord, if you can find a way to do it
Please remember us and bless us in spite of our weakness
Or perhaps have mercy on us because of our weakness.
Watch our leader, give them wisdom.
Watch our enemies, and allow them to open their eyes
And watch those who have their own avarice, greed and vanity in the forefront
Before the needs of those who want or suffer.
For this we pray, in Thanksgiving to You.
Amen

So we have this economic "crisis" fueled by the various ogres of loose credit requirements, stupid lenders and a system that wants lenders to be blind to the stark realities of lending money to people who cannot, and sometimes will not, pay. So what do we do?

When the going gets tough, the tough go....shopping? Really? Is that really what we should be doing? Stores are opening at 6 AM, 4AM, Midnight after Thanksgiving in order to lure shoppers in the door. Is this really a cost-effective way of handling this economic problem? Should we really encourage people to rack up more credit card debt by making outrageous offers based on the ability and willingness to wake up early the day after Thanksgiving? Just as a for instance, my daughter works for a well known national retailer. She will have to be at work at 5:45 in the morning. Sure, there will be the usual bevy of kooks, but by and large the need to pay for staffing such an event far outweighs the economic return. The same could be said for "midnight madness" sales. I worked those sales back in the day at Sanger-Harris (now Macy's) and the rule of thumb was after ten you got teenagers looking for entertainment and kooks. If you are having to drastically cut loss leader product prices in order to bring people in at outrageous hours, there's no way that can make economic sense because you are losing money on the product AND on the staffing and energy to run the store. While I don't wish economic misfortune on anyone, I would very much like to see some national chain have some guts and say that they aren't going to play these silly games. And likewise I would like to see people screw their heads on right and refuse to be suckered in by offers that panic them into buying stuff they absolutely
DO NOT NEED.

Folks, it's time to have that discussion about "wants" vs. "needs". Many of us have spent that last ten years accumulating toys that we do not need at the expense of more practical but less sexy purchases like healthy insurance and such. We must change our attitudes.

I have usually posted daily on this blog.
I just can't seem to manage it anymore.
Things are just too depressing and frankly, I was raised with the idea of simply taking your burden and moving on.
Since I am not sure how all of this will end up, I will simply post when I can.
I don't think I am alone in this because while some people seem elated with the way things are going, there are many of us who are very afraid of what the future will bring.
I just hope that something goes better soon.

Remember all those union members that supported Barak Obama? I guess they weren't paying attention much when he said it would take EVERYONE participating to bail out the economy. The union reps attitudes are that they want to costly pension and retirement plans that have driven manufacturing out of the country and simply do not care if it drives the companies that employ them into Chapter 7. And for those of you who don't analyze what unions are saying, they are saying this-
We don't care because we don't have to care. We have been promised by the Federal Government that our pensions will be guaranteed. Never mind that the pension guarantee fund is broke. Never mind that there are perhaps a MILLION jobs on the line. Let's just all stick to that union code.
And these were the proud supporters of our incoming president. The same folks who think that they are above the law, beyond the finance companies and that they don't have to handle any of their personal obligations just because Barak Obama was elected president. Well whoopie-freaking-do.

Folks, Washington is playing us again. While we are taxed to the max to payout AIG's woes, they are giving themselves bonuses and hiding at luxury resorts. Excuse me if I do not share their levity. Maybe it is because I am one of the people who works like crazy, pays taxes and tries to do right by others and we seem to get screwed over every time. Here's a clue-it doesn't matter any more who you vote for because it's THEM -the government idiots-against US-the people. I am tired tired tired of having taxes taken out of my check to pay to support those who won't work. I am also tired of executives of corporations and foreign investors raiding companies for their assets, working their employees nearly to death and then complaining about productivity. Frankly, the Harvard Business School model that wants to skim the cream off the top for administrators, pay out dividends to stockholders, placate union members and then screw over the workers who show up and do their jobs without much in the way of support has got to go. I am sick of what this nation has become-a society of navel gazing sycophants more involved in their cell phones and Ipods than the real world. If I thought for one minute that this much purported "change" would really change things, maybe I could reconcile myself to it, but all I have seen from the markets, from the agendas posted on Obama's website and from the DNC ruling class in general is that they are going to let their pet lobbyists get away with what they can steal and allow the unions to gouge corporations and leave the rest of us holding the bag. Excuse me, but I am bitter and I am angry and I don't think I am alone. It may be just a fun game to those who play the social safety net card, but at 52 or 54 or 58, it's damned hard to start over.

I simply can't take it anymore.

At what point are the police and law enforcement officials going to get serious about tracking down these people. We have had three assaults on seniors in the southern sectors of Dallas. And what is worse, these are probably perpetrators already well known to the police. If someone knows who these people are, TELL THE POLICE!!!! They are getting money from seniors, assaulting them, making their senior years ones of terror rather than peace. If you know something about who is doing this and you are witholding information due to fear, or worse, due to your own petty greed, then I want you to know that you can contact the police anonymously. This worries me a great deal. My mom values her independence and I don't want to and really cannot be there all the time. There used to be respect for seniors-but now these greedy little pigs think nothing of stealing from old ladies and elderly men. Big ****ing cowards. At least try to steal from someone that will give you  a real fight. I hope one of these old WWII vets puts a bullet into you.

Please pay attention to this story because it is about a situation which should not be occurring and which could endanger younger kids in school. Since public schools have this mindless mandate that they must educate everyone, dogooders have made it their aim to allow anyone up to the age of 25 who wants to enroll in high school. I have frequently stated my support of Ninth Grade Centers simply because dumb little just turned 14 year old girls are absolute suckers for the 18 and 19 year old seniors. There have been many times that I have intercepted and turned over notes written by older male students inviting freshmen girls to afterschool, night or private parties at homes and apartments where some of these older students LIVE BY THEMSELVES.  Note to parents: there are lots and lots of parents with way more money than sense that would rather pay for an 18 year old to live on their own than monitor that same kid's behavior. Drugs, sex, abuse, failure, crime are all incipient dangers, but too many parents just can't be bothered to PARENT. Likewise, there are far too many parents, mostly social status seeking moms, who think it's just PEACHY for their freshman daughter to date the senior varsity athletic star. Note to parents: in high school and really even in the early years of college, more than a two year gap in ages between dating partners is an invitation to abuse and exploitation.

How many stories about girls sending nasty photos on the cell phones and then getting them sent around school are we going to have to hear to make some sense out of this? Likewise, boys can be entrapped by provocative young women who want to use sex to secure their social standing. If you think this can't happen, listen to this story. A friend of ours had a son who was a star athlete at a well known local high school. Some freshman girl kept calling him, sending him notes, leaving presents in his car and generally offered him the moon-if you get my drift. Being a teenage boy, ruled by hormones rather than brains, he dated her, had sex with her. But then she became a burden. She would break into his emails, tried to demand he buy her costly gifts, threaten other friends until he simply couldn't deal with it so he broke up with her. Unfortunately for the kid, her daddy was a lawyer. They tried to sue for rape, but the various witnesses, notes and such saved this kid from having to go to jail and be labeled a sex offender for life. People, while there are still many innocent kids in our schools, there are also those who are allowed to run wild. Letting significantly older students in where they can work their experience on younger students is dangerous and should not happen. The state legislature needs to address this.

And BTW, part of this came from the ADA wherein disabled students are required to be educated at the local district's expense until they are 21. Frankly, even some of the mentally disabled students who are older are a danger to younger students. Although they may be mentally challenged, they have the same hormones and can often act on them without the filter of reason. I am dealing with this now with a student who has mental problems but seems fixated on being as verbally provocative as possible. I can't get him removed because he knowns the limits. In the meantime, I fear for some of the girls that gravitate toward him. He's an 18 year old sophomore. And folks, this is an ongoing situation in far too many of our high schools.

The hue and cry over the death of innocents due to a police chase involving a drunk driver ended up with the Dallas Police making a new policy that they would call off any chase that goes more than 20 mph over the speed limit. Last night, a drunk driver drove away from an attempted traffic stop and killed one man outright and wounded another. The police officer had to call off the chase per department policy. At what point are we going to stop blaming the police for incidents that happen as the result of criminal behavior by citizens?  I realize that people could get hurt in a police chase, but people could also be hurt if they DIDN'T attempt to stop dangerous drivers. So at what point are we going to admit that drunk drivers are the problem and not the police?

I don't know about most people, but I don't think it is the place of a teacher to discuss sex roles, gender preferences or any other such topic with KINDERGARTNERS! I don't discuss them with the high school kids I teach. But this is just another wonderful example of how certain people with specific agendas will try to impact future decisions via indoctrination. If I were a parent, I would be livid. I would make sure that teacher didn't have a job. I would make that my quest. How about teaching them the alphabet, their phone numbers, how to get along without flooding the curriculum with someone's agenda

Last night my dog, who normally falls asleep and expects everyone else to go to sleep at ten, started barking wildly at 11:30. I went outside with a flashlight, saw nothing, let her back in the house and when I went to the door, her head was down-she was not her usual ebullient self. She was cowering and there wasn't anything out there! I put it down to a bad dream, but then this morning I hear that there was a rare earthquake with its epicenter in Irving. I live in southeastern Denton county, and now we are hearing there have been more mini-quakes. I am now wondering if this accounts for some of my dog's mindless barking in the middle of the night. In talking to my sister in law from California, her cats always act goosey before a quake. I am think maybe that my lab sensed it and didn't know how to handle it. Did anyone else's dog or cat act strangely late last night? I would really like to know.

What if a newspaper in a large, liberal metropolitan area, like say Los Angeles, had videotape of a presidential candidate partying with a known supporter of terrorists? What if it was a man named Khalidi who has created a very uncomfortable anti-Semite aura at Columbia? Would that newspaper be ethically obliged to inform the public of this odd connection? Or is it simply okay to pretend it never happened and let the chips fall where they may? And if that candidate gets elected, and uses such contacts to the detriment of our nation, who should be the first ones we blame?

I was willing to express different ideas. Instead, much of what the opposition has to offer is venom, diatribes and pasted comments from some higher ups. This campaign has been devoid of issues. Instead we have media pundits hitting the high points and hiding the low points in order to shape the election. This isn't freedom, it's manipulation. And if you think this is something wrought by the conservatives, consider this column from "tolerant" Oregon. I can understand disagreeing with someone politically, but it has gotten to the point where people are not even rational. If you can't discuss something without threats, innuendo or namecalling, then you must have a pretty weak case. I think most Americans are sick of it. I know I am. So read what a conservative in Oregon goes through and ask yourself if this is deserved treatment for simply having different ideas or expressing one's opinions. If you think it's just fine, then you are part of the problem.

Okay, here's all the gloom and doom that we are fed daily from the media. But have you guys driven by the malls lately? It's like the weekend before Christmas! I went up to the book store earlier and Vista Ridge Mall, Best Buy, Costco, all of the stores were full. The parking lots were full. My son, who works at a retail store in Vista Ridge DOUBLED his sales quota. So here's the deal. If the media says it's a recession but nobody pays attention, is it a recession?

I am a teacher, a mother and wife and I like to think I am a pretty good citizen. I read ALOT. I also write a good deal on various blogs. I appreciate a chance to respond to what we see in the news. I think that by posting our opinions we can probably find that everyone is more alike than we are willing to admit. Face it, people just like to argue. I would also like to say how much I appreciate having a forum for my views.
