For those of you thinking that an Obama victory will cut you taxes, consider this:

Fact Check: Obama Misleads on $250,000 Tax Claim

September 26, 2008 10:14 PM

ABC News' Teddy Davis and Nitya Venkataraman Report: During Friday's presidential debate, Sen. Barack Obama provided a loose interpretation of his tax plan, saying that those making less than $250,000 a year "will not see one dime's worth of tax increase."

It's not entirely true.

Obama has called for higher taxes on income, capital gains and dividends for individuals making $200,000 per year; his tax plan imposes higher taxes on couples starting at $250,000 a year.

Now granted, my family isn't even close to that tax bracket, but given the many spending programs such as national healthcare that are big ticket items, I doubt very much we would see a decrease in taxes for middle class taxpayers. In fact, I am pretty sure that overall taxes, which include state, local, school, sales and other tax rates, will have to rise precipitously to cover federal demands on states and cities.

We don't need national healthcare. What we need is to go after the drug companies for their ridiculous price gouging and make RX drugs affordable. We need to go after insurance companies who deny health coverage. Go after Medicare/Medicaid fraud to bring health care for seniors and the disabled back into reality. The government taking over every facet of our lives is a slippery slope into communism! Do you really want Pelosi and Reid deciding our entire lives for us?

If you are old enough like me, you remember when all medical bills were deductible. My mom would save every receipt. We only had major medical, but an office visit rarely cost more than $25. When Hilary and Bill foisted HMO's on us, that was supposed to produce salvation. Instead it created entire new layers of bureaucracy that insulated doctors and patients from communication and real medical care. Now we have a health insurance industry that has to base its scale on things like medical malpractice, lack of tort reform and politically correct attitudes that want us to include in our insurance groups people who deliberately choose to abuse drugs, have risky personal behavior and who take unacceptable risks. We the many are paying for the idiocy of the few, the stupid and the selfish. And this attitude plays out with the bank defaults as well.

Yes I sure do remember that. I also remember when we could deduct mortgage and credit card interest and even grocery sales taxes. I would have a whole file drawer full of receipts by the end of the year. If we have nationalized health care nobody will get the care they need. Canada is a good example. Those who can afford to come here when they have a serious medical problem because the waiting list is so long there. I am totally againt the incompetent government interfering in health care AND business.

I am a teacher, a mother and wife and I like to think I am a pretty good citizen. I read ALOT. I also write a good deal on various blogs. I appreciate a chance to respond to what we see in the news. I think that by posting our opinions we can probably find that everyone is more alike than we are willing to admit. Face it, people just like to argue. I would also like to say how much I appreciate having a forum for my views.
