A little recent history as to the reasons that Freddie and Fannie crashed and burned. Once the Democrats got control of committees, they ran roughshod on the Republicans, denying them any real place at the table. Even long time experts on committees were hooted down by the new heads. Here's some of what happened-of course you know the results:

1) The Bill to correct abuses in Freddie and Fannie introduced by Hagel with McCain, Dole and Sunnunu as co-sponsors in Januray 2005 (S.190 (109th)..
2) Bill never got to Congressional vote because 12 votes were needed in committee to go to Congress.. the Democrats wouldn't dare concede to more control over the financial entities because they were getting far too much political money from these groups.
3) In July of 2006 the following committee vote occurred:

(NOTE: Dodd the # 1 recipient of bribes, um, I mean campaign contributions from Freddie & Fannie with Obama the Pure second in receiving this Freddie & Fannie Money).

Against Freddie and Fannie reform (100% / all nine Democrats):
DODD (!), SCHUMER (!), Sarbanes, Johnson, Reed, Bayh, Carper, Stabenow and Menendez.

For: (100% all Republicans.):
Shelby, Bennet, Allard Enzi,, Hagel, Santorum, Bunning, Crapo, Sunnunu, Dole and Martinez.

So, who are you blaming for the Fannie / Freddie catastrophes.........?

I watched Pelosi and Reid blame Bush today. No reference, by either Democrats or Republicans, to what you wrote in your blog and everything you wrote is true. They also made reference to John McCain, saying there was a deal on the Bill and he blew it. There was no deal. House Republicans had not even seen the proposed done deal and were not invited to the table. These people lie so much they don't even know what the truth is anymore. Now they say Barney Frank (who kept the pressure on Fannie for more and more subprime loans to minorities and illegals) and Chris Dodd are going to be heading an investigation into how this happened! Unbelievable!

They were close to a deal. McCain shows up, with his campaign manager (Obama showed up with his legialtive advisor) and tried to further his campaign for the cameras. He didn't negotiate anything about the bill. McCain was humiliated by basically being run outta town so they could get something accomplished, and he tried to save face by showing up for the debate, something he mentioned he wouldn't do unless an agreement was reached. The agreement wasn't reached, and McCain blew the debate. Nice going!

Get a life! You offer nothing but asinine comments and don't know what you are talking about. I watched several news channels all day and heard everything that was said by both Democrats and Republicans. I read the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times to get both the liberal and conservative views. You don't even have the intelligence to get your own ideology right. Try doing a little research and stop listening to 30 second sound bites for your uninformed opinionns that you insist on inflicting on everyone.

First of all, it's spelled "opinions." And if you can't see beyond your own brainwashed "ideology" then you are lost, and completely blind to anything outside of your realm of stupidity. Thank God most have been able to see past the garbage McCain brought to Washington, in his feeble attempt to delay the debates. Who's going to delay that ditz Palin's debate? I wonder what excuse that whack job will conjure up!

Lost, this is a classic example of changing the message. How do you respond to the information I have given that the committees KNEW THERE WAS A PROBLEM IN 2003? The Democrats voted against oversight, probably because they were getting good press from constituents that were getting loans even though they couldn't really qualify for them. The Republicans wanted oversight. And now they blame Bush....sorry, but if there's blood on anyone's hands, its the Democrats that closed ranks on such votes. And mark my words, at some point there will be an investigation and some folks in Washington are going to get burned. What goes around, comes around.

Awesome post TTB. Even with the facts staring them right in the face, some refuse to believe what's true. They won't respond to facts but will instead spout the same fallacies written and reported by smear merchants. Witness the above comments. For someone that insists that on his blogs you stick to the subject of said blog, he sure knows how to dance around the truth squad. lol Again, hypocrisy revealed.

When dealing with facts, you'll find that on May 25, 2006, Senator John McCain said this:
"For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market... the GSEs need to be reformed without delay."

More facts that some will continue to deny.

I assume Holly's comment was a classic example too? McCain consistently voted for deregulation, and he's now seeing what a dumb decision that was.

Oh yeah, nevermind Holly's comment, which had nothing to do with the post. She's on "your side"......lol. Some of you are just too easy to see through. You can't handle anything outside of what you believe, and most just aren't capable of even trying to understand opposing views, which is why I joined this blog in the first place! Love seeing you squirm when the truth is posted......lol.

Hooly, TTB and Damage you are correct, both Bush warned over 17 times about Fannie and Freddie

Lost - it's not a spelling test, it's a blog, and holly has the facts right

Lost since you love to point out miss-spellings, go to dusty's post, it's hardly readable.

Wow, classic example of liberals changing the subject when they are losing. Maybe that's why Pelosi spouted off. You guys would be so much better off without her.

I am a teacher, a mother and wife and I like to think I am a pretty good citizen. I read ALOT. I also write a good deal on various blogs. I appreciate a chance to respond to what we see in the news. I think that by posting our opinions we can probably find that everyone is more alike than we are willing to admit. Face it, people just like to argue. I would also like to say how much I appreciate having a forum for my views.
