Democrat's Remember the past...... I think John McCain's pull out of Michigan might just be a trick we've seen before...... In 1990, John Engler upset incumbent Governor Jim Blanchard. Blanchard who was supposed to win by a Landslide, lost because many Democrat's stayed home away from the lines at the polls. Do what you must but every vote will be important.

You do make a very valid pount, Tall: Every vote does count & exercising that right helps decide who leads our country, etc. May the best candidate win.

And when Engler revamped the welfare programs to severe restriction, specifically the General Assistance ones, (not the Aid to Dependent Children, the program for mothers on their own), that change effected more than 90k residents of michigan, he ignorantly hurt more working families under the General Assistance Family (GAF) branch. These are the families who work, submit their earnings which are in turn deducted from their benefits, which were miniscule to begin with.
The fact of the matter is, in an attempt to eliminate benefits for able-bodied adults getting free money, (which I can agree with to some degree), he destroyed families in the process. The greater percentage of the program was implemented into working families and he took that.

This action only bred more of the tactics used by people to lie in order to get benefits, which in turn bred overall dissatisfaction to tax payers who feel they are providing money to those who should "get off their butts and work." Well, the ones who did were stripped of any real help. Yeah, Engler, great guy. Everytime democrats do not get involved and republicans get in, the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. Not a good plan.

Detroit,

I hated John too but what I am after here is making sure even though it looks good for Obama everyone must get to the polls and vote.

I understood the premise of your post. I was too young to "hate" him as you stated, but merely pointed to a political reign of power and how it effected the most important aspect of leadership, the people.
I gave an example of what happens when democrats do not turn out in numbers to elect a leader.

Your right, it does look good for Obama, but the primary elections showed, even then, that the voter registration and turn out had been raised significantly. I hear people making discussion about blacks voting for Obama simply because he is black. And while that might be true, those numbers still won't be enough, therefore not as relevant. (and for the record, I know you didn't mention race, I did, and I am only bringing it up as another issue)As someone in another blog mentioned, it will be the white voters who elect Obama, not the black voters.

Your post requires more than a simple agreement to your statements. When a statment is posed it should lead to more questions and even more important, examples to support the statement. Otherwise, it is merely a statement seeking support without reasoning behind it. So rather than point me back into the direction you would like, give my remarks some thought and then agree or disagree with them, thats all you gotta do.

They shouldn't be dismissed as not relevant to the post, unless they are. And, as you can hopefully see, they are completely relevant.

I am just beginning to read your blogs, and while I agree with most of what you say, I am also simply pointing out how I usually respond to other posts.

I am just not wanting to open a can of worms here on John Engler as we have had War's on these blogs over the guy.

Let them bring on the wars then brother. I understand something very important, people will go to their graves holding steadfast in their beliefs. That you can never change. Someones socialization leads them to their belief systems as adults. Most will never question why it is they believe what they do, or why they support the things they do.

What I appeciate is when people open up to the idea of questioning everything, despite its origin. It is not easy. It requires discipline. It requires coming out of their own accepted ideals to find the truth and what that truth really means to them. Then, you can give credit to somebody for holding to their beliefs and respect that they have questioned enough to feel comfortable with those beliefs, even if they do not fall in line with your own.

A "simple agreement" is about the best I can do with this one; Especially when I see the Sunday Fox News show picking an Independant to debate for McCain and the co-Chairperson of the Obama campaign to debate for guess who? This :DetroitLover' blogger seems to believe they regulate many's opinions in here and are judge/jury/convicter. Many of the long time regulars like you & I Tall do agree & disagree but experience has taught me that they do come & go from time to time, these "control freaks". Yeah I went there. Just out of curiosity, where were all these "concerned" voters when it was Bush & Gore or we debate anything other than this "miraculous Change" many claim will happen? Remember who threw the first stone, DetLover. This is how I respond when spoken negatively to, by pointing out my experience with almost 300 blogs here on a variety of subjects not just the ones that apparently affect the few. You want to call this "defensive" or "an attitude problem", go for it. I see it as speaking like a man and when spoken to. If the Fox2 blogs ever need a moderator, you should apply, though. LOL.

What stone did I throw car? Where did I speak negatively?
Not a moderator, just someone who offers a reason for appreciating someones opinion and the way in which they came to claim it. I am quite the opposite of what you suggest, and I am not sure why. I make light hearted reference to many things that are sensitive to people in an effort to come across to them in a non-offensive way, which is always my intent. You seem to have went in a different direction altogether.
So, you and tall have been regular bloggers, that is great. How does this rationalize dismissing someone elses ideas and analysis? Because I have not been "blogging" forever suddenly my remarks have no substance or reason for examination?

I read your remarks about my feeling like this is a competition and could only shake my head, considering that remark was a humorous one to you and you took and ran with it. I'm sorry you can't appreciate my remarks for what they are. I also don't simply dismiss others remarks as "an attitude problem." Even with these remarks you have just made, I am still trying to understand where you are coming from, and it is difficult. That is my problem, not yours, for the record. As with anything else, or anyone else I encounter, I seek to understand the impression I have left, if only to improve myself.

The people in Detroit know why they are the poorest city in America. They have had democratic mayor leadership for the passed 47 years. The state of Michigan can learn alot from the lower levels of government by taking a good look at the top 10 poorest cities in America.

You are a trip DetroitLover. Not everything said in here has to done with surgical accuracy. I myself am not a professional debater. Views are accumulated over a lifetime of experiences. No one in can say another is wrong without walking a mile in their moccasins. Being on here reading opinions helps form new ideas and ways of thinking which is just another life experience. If everything that has made my thinking patterns my own or Cars or Tall theirs were dissected surgically they would put us all away. Lighten up Dr. Det.Lover

Hey jax, I never claimed to be a professional debater either. I have not, or would I, dissect anything. Questioning something is far different than dissection, it is philosophy. The very act of seeking knowledge.
I just have never accepted things at face value, that is all. I have not came on here intending to discredit anyone, offend anyone, or put anyone down for their views. When someone puts their views out there, they are subject to interpretation, aren't they?

I was humorous with car, he didn't like it. I encouraged tall not to simply dismiss my words and car came to his defense. So, because my remarks do not fall in line, they are not valid, or important?
Nor did I tell anyone that their views, that they have accumulated over a lifetime of experiences, were wrong. I only disagreed that a lifetime of blogging is not a justification for shutting my discussions down either. I haven't been unfair, or negative towards any person other than reverand circus, considering he is a bigot. I don't think anyone other than him would disagree.

Detroit are you always this way? I simply explained to you that I was trying to steer you away from John Engler as it has been hashed out after a major problem in here. I am in no way trying to hurt you here but do you see perhaps your a bit anal-retentive. I myself and others in here are guilty of the same behavior at times.

I am an American Indian. I developed Muscular Dystrophy in 2001 at the ripe old age of 44. I spend my days mostly on line and with my Ex-wife, and kids. I guess you could say I'm a Democrat but I am most interested in what any candidate can do to improve the world in which we live. I know I really spell poorly but I take solace in the fact that neither could Einstein. LOL
