I just saw the news broadcast about Prince Harry fighting in the war.  There was an embargo on this information, and yet it was more important to a reporter to get a headline in the news than the well being of the Prince, England and every other country that could have been affected if he was captured by the enemy.  Here is a possible King of England, fighting the fight, and his life and the life of his fellow soldiers were put in jeporday by a news hungrey reporter.. He has since been moved out of the country. I think it is time the new media became more responsible in their reporting, start thinking about how many lives they are putting in danger by leaking such stories.  Stories that put people and countries in harms way have got to stop!!!  Some of these reporters need to get their priorities straight and start using some common sense when reporting.

Hey Tweet-
Again, I'm a media-type and a rabid defender of people's access to information (what they do with it is their business), so maybe my view is different. Know though that these arguments are not a defense of any trashy tabloid journalism.

1) Do we know an embargo was broken? An embargo states a specific time for release. There is no such thing as a 'permanent embargo'- the only way I've seen to do that is by making the information classified or as the result of a judge-issued gag order.

2) Harry chose to fight on the front lines. He knows his celebrity. If he didn't, the incident where he wore the Nazi costume taught him. The British military knows it, too. If they truly thought it was a danger- or he added additional danger because of his celebrity- why put him there? Why put the other soldiers in that danger?

3) I enjoy a good conspiracy. Maybe the story was fed to the media by a Buckingham Palace that is concerned just how dangerous things are getting in Iraq? Now they can now use the 'tabloid media' as the scapegoat to pull him out.

While the speed at which people can access information through the media is growing, it's rarely instantaneous. I honestly doubt that information was published before Harry's platoon moved.

And do viewers/media users not hold some responsibility in this? Demand does encourage supply, no?

1. yes the embargo was broken, it was not suppose to be reported until April.
2. he wanted to serve his country and help others and an embargo was put in place to protect him and his fellow soldiers.
3. the story was leaked by an Aussie and a German reporter, Prince Harry has the right to defend his country just the same as any lay person.
I as a responsible person did not need to know he was there and did not welcome the news of it being reported and did not demand the story.

I agree- Harry certainly has a right to volunteer on behalf of his country. His grandmother did as well during WWII.

But I reiterate that the military and the Prince knew his celebrity would bring danger. He could have done just as much to support the cause serving soup in the commissary- in London.

I also tend to believe the insurgents probably knew he was there. Traitors are everywhere.

Should the media always wait to report stories until the government says it's OK?

Thousands of people have already clicked on the Prince Harry story on the MyFox network. So SOMEONE wanted to know.

I'm playing a little Devil's Advocate here, but I think the last point is important in my mind.

Freedom of information is a wonderful thing, but too much freedom is dangerou . Yes, we have freedom of speech, press and virtually every other freedom under the sun. Does that give us the right to infringe on the personal safety of others. The answer is an emphatic NO. I'm glad that the current class of press were not around during WW2 I could only imagine the stories. Normady invasion move up three hours. Look out below Nagasaki and Hiroshima the American Government has a surprise for you.
There is a huge difference between "breaking" a story and commiting treason, its a fine line. If you truly want to break a story of national interest, use you invesigative skills to find OBL, or break the next terrorist attack before.
put your talent to good use and

This is a comment from mommyconcerned. Let me start by saying yes my son was home for 35 days because of his surgery and that was at the discetion of his surgeon. Along with the ACL repair there was a tibial spine repair which had to be performed because he broke bone as well. The school he attends does not have an elevator and therefore crutches and a leg that he can not bend (per his surgeon) are not a good combination when mixed with marble stairs. Understand my son wanted to go to school and fought to return, however it was not safe for him to do so and that is why he was kept home. My issue was with the school and them not doing their job as they were suppose to. I turned in the proper paperwork pertaining to the issue before school started and it took six weeks for the principal to send a teacher to the house. Even with an instructor in my home three to four nights a week the truancy unit was still sent to my house because the school did not code the records properly and he was marked absent everyday. I am not a crappy parent and I fight for whats right. My son deserves an education just like the next child. Most miserable people don't understand things like that. By the way have you found a job yet?
