26-year-old Danica Patrick is the first female winner in IndyCar history!  She won the Indy Japan 300 with just over two laps to go in the 200 lap race.

Patrick finished nearly 6 seconds (technically 5.8594 seconds) ahead of pole sitter Helio Castroneves.  Remember when he won Dancing With the Stars?

When she got out of the car, tears were streaming down her face.  The first thing she said to the ESPN interviewer was, "I feel like a wuss crying, but it's been a long time coming. Finally ."   I love that soundbite.  She's always asked... "When are you gonna win?  When are you gonna win?"

It's her 50th career IndyCar start.  50 time's a charm.  I'm so proud.

The last time she took the checkered flag was in 2002, when she won the Professional Division of the 2002 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at the Long Beach Grand Prix.

Here's to Danica Patrick! She has definitely pulled off a feat...I wonder what's next for her? This is going to be a fun ride!

Cheers Suzanne!

thanks mystere! hopefully it's more wins! some people joke she'll be on dancing with the stars... just like Helio.

He was so cool by the way. He pointed to his small 2nd place trophy, like "look at how tiny mine is!" right before this photo of her was taken.

Suzanne............Suzie!

a little off topic....., you're the best reporter to hit local t.v. Smart, beautiful, funny, and personality to boot. I usually don't write on these things nor sign up for stuff but I had too blog you. You have good composure...one night while reporting on the 3rd St. Promenade, during the "Final Four", while on live T.V. some guy walked passed you (behind you), and I know he must have pinched your butt or worse...because you turned to look at him and you had a priceless expression on your face!!....I nearly fell off the sofa! Ha. you kept your composure and finished the story. What a true professional you are. I think of that incident everytime I see you now....

I admired your ability to keep it "together". You are now my favorite reporter on T.V. Good luck with your career. I wish you the much success.

so how heavy is that thropy? how much for the prize money? do you think any of the racers are angry because they lost to a girl? did you kick that guy's butt for pinching or smacking your butt? i know i would have once the camera stopped rolling.

samo - i'm not sure about the details. i know it's typically a man's sport. steve, jillian & dorothy were talking about how danica has a bone-crushing handshake. i think that's indicative of the environment.

BTW, some absolutely sloshed guy grabbed my hips while i was live - at the beginning of my story. i kept my composure until the end. once i was done he was down the street, half-passed out and stumbling. it really wasn't worth the effort, but i did get out of there. :)

The girls got it goin on! She can kick almost every mans butt on the track and shes beautiful! Lucky girl, very proud to see a woman win.

I'm not a bad driver but I would say I have a bit of road rage. I live in Hemet and driving here would give anyone road rage. There are alot of elderly (mostly edlery) drivers here, and more dips then you can imagine. apparently it is our briliant drainage system. I will say that listing to Jack Johnson while driveing helps, very kicked back music.

On a side note, you are doing a great job at Fox, I love your energy! Keep up the great work!!

april - i love jack johnson! have you seen the sketch they do about him on SNL? it's so funny. it's about him being mellow & he has on other mellow singers like dave matthews & john mayer. i'm sure it's on youtube...

i'm so glad a gal's on here too giving danica props! :) thank you! it's such a fun show. i feel lucky everyday i come to work!

so you left him dazed and confused on the pavement. wow, must of been a knock out punch by ya. j/k, i know you didnt do anything to him. you seem too nice do such a thing, but let's hope he didnt drink and drive later on.

so what would of happened if instead of grabbing your hips, he actually picked you up, which cause the crowd behind you to all grab ya and lift you up and pretty much making you crowd surf during a live segment? actually that would be prett cool to see live.

I'll say this Suzanne and Samo: Good thing the drunkard didn't try to pick you up...that would have been extremely dangerous...especially if he were to fall over; I don't have to say any more about this.

But here's to Danica (and you too Suzanne): You go Girl!!!

Two things I'm looking forward to this weekend: The annual Kaleidescope festival at Cal State Long Beach on Saturday, and the Seal Beach Car Show, also on Saturday...just a short hop away from each other! Time for me to get my bicycle out, and hop the OCTA bus, then ride over to the other event! Fun stuff awaits...do you think anyone on staff might come out and do some reporting on any of these events?

mytere, you should get a "smart"car. if you get one, maybe you can convice others that gas guzzling suv's and hummers are the thing of the past, and invest in a economical car like the smart. i want to get one too. seems like a smart choice.

Actually, I'd need a truck that has a long enough bed for the stuff I carry to work...I work part time as a gardener, and I need something that can carry a load, carry passengers, and still be economical...not one of these "long bed" trucks that have only 6 foot beds...7 feet or longer with passenger space. Now when one of those comes along with a hybrid (and not a GM truck...I don't like GM at all), I'll look at one.

Suzanne, if one of those comes around one day, do you think you'd test ride one for Fox 11 news? Imagine one of those for a news truck...of course it would need a shell on the back to protect and secure the equipment.

i would love to crowd surf! that sounds like so much fun. unlike moshing. not fun.

i don't know if they'll report on the events... you can send a press release to news@fox11.com. that's the most direct way to pitch a story!

the smart car is so tiny. if we all drove them - like they do in parts of europe - that would be great, but they're tiny! kudos to those who do.

i haven't driven a truck in a while. i like sports cars! i can zip through traffic. i'll test drive anything though. why not?

note to self: if i ever see suzanne out covering a story, convince crowd to lift her up and make her crowd surf.
