Boy, is that a loaded question!

Really, though, I would like your suggestions for this summer's One Tank Trips.

My last post was about how bummed out these gas prices are making me. I appreciate your efforts to cheer me up. Now we have the chance to make the best of a bad situation.

Where can we go to have some fun on one tank of gas? And we mean one tank round trip.

Take a look at our list from last year. We really got around!

This year, we've started in our own backyard, with a journey to the Betsy Ross House, here in Old City Philadelphia.
The idea is to get those of you who live in the suburbs to actually come into the city. I know plenty of people who never do.

I had the chance to meet two actors who portray Betsy ross and Ben Franklin- and they're getting married!  Check out the story of when they first met.  It's so cute!

There's also an exhibit of flags on display from the last 200 years.  The owner of the collection gave me a sampling on a private tour!  You should see what you're missing.

Within walking distance from the Betsy Ross House, at 239 Arch Street, are scads of historic destinations, like the Liberty Bell, Christ Church, Independence Hall, the Constitution Center, and Fox 29. Just kidding about that last one. You can see us every day on TV.

We have a wonderful partnership going this summer with the folks at gophila.com.  Go to their web site and get plenty of ideas about how to be a tourist in your hometown.

And let me know where else you think I should go. I mean it!

Don't worry so much about fuel mileage....Don't be afraid to drive locally, just make sure the activities you choose are either free or low cost. You can balance high fuel prices by being creative with activities.
Some cheap, fun activities, tent camping, hiking, biking, swimming, spend time with the kids outside. Run through the sprinkler. Teach your children the old games, tag, kick the can, flash light tag, red rover, hop scotch,Freeze tag, kick ball ,baseball. Have family game night. Free firework shows.
An icee from Rita's. The list goes on and on. choose activities wisely, use fuel catiously and you'll have one of the most memorable summers in you life. Spending money is does not correlate directly with the amount of fun a family can have in trying times.

I know this is more than a one tank trip. But I invite everyone to come out to Raystown Lake, PA. You can camp there for relatively low rates and the people are awesome! The lake is gorgeous and the area is surronded by state parks. I liked it so much I moved here last month and opened a small country store!

This is not as near as a Philadelphia site, but not as far as Raystown Lake. How about the Kutztown Folk Festival scheduled for June 28 - July 6. Lots to see and do!
Kutztown is midway between Allentown and Reading.
If gas prices keep us at home, we have lost the fight.

I went to New York City and back in a minivan going 85 mph on only a half tank of gas.

Saturday July 19th the Harmony Grange on Limestone Road Wilmington DE! It's called Sounds Like a Cure! It's a benefit show of bands for JDRF; the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. I'm an abassador for JDRF and am starting a fundraiser. It's going to start around 3, there's going to be a BBQ, 8 bands (teen preference music), it's $10.00 and worth every penny. There might also be a silent auction on guitars, drums, and everything music! It's a fun time and you'll be helping every person (even me!) with Type 1 Diabetes!!!!

You should go to Fort Delaware and look for ghosts! That would be neat. You could go Tubing on the Brandywine, visit Brandywine Battlefields....the Brandywine River Museum. There is so much fun stuff to see around there!

Try a day at Burholme Park and the Ryerrs Museum & Library. I know the museum is open on weekends - not sure abour midweek hours during the summer. It is located in NE Philly and the best news is that it is FREE

As a native New Yorker, I am a big fan of "Pay as you wish" attractions. You can make it to NYC on a full tank of gas! There are alot of places in NYC that can be visited for free on certain days. Donations are only if you wish. My personal pick for you is The Museum of The American Indian. Admission is free and the place is beautiful and fun!

Found this adorable historic town JUST on the other side of the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge. Riverton NJ....they have several great places to eat and shop. They have the most incredible antique/home decor store an artistic mix of vintage, new and remade items,we also found a really cool tea room and gift shop, old fashioned ice cream parlor, upscale bakery and patisserie, delicious seafood cafe. All on main street. I heard they have an enormous 4th of July celebration..long parade, pony rides, carriage rides, greased pole contest, soap box derby race and ends with a raft race on the Delaware. We're going back..check it out....

I have been the weather anchor on Good Day Philadelphia since December of 1997. It's been quite a ride, and I've been extremely fortunate. I've spent much of my time during the years taking weather on location. Those experiences have afforded me so many opportunities I never would have had otherwise. I've visited countless schools and been able to show our viewers some of the positive things going on in the classrooms in our area. We've been able to focus on the many teachers working very hard, and the students who will always remember when TV came to their school. I'm also proud of encouraging our viewers to be "tourists in their own hometown." We've taken you to special spots, like the Camden Children's Garden, the Constitution Center, and hundreds more. These are places I might have procrastinated about visiting on my own, but thanks to this job, I've been able to feel so much a part of this community as the folks out there have opened their arms. How lucky am I? My daughter has been a part of this program, periodically, from the time she was six months old. And even now, people who recognize me and Nia when we're out and about remember when I did the weather from our house on her first day of kindergarten. Now she is in fifth grade! So many of her childhood memories are preserved on Good Day, and I am grateful. We continue to make amazing upgrades to our equipment here at Fox 29, and it's exciting to work with the very latest in state-of-the-art technology. My latest thrill is this blog. I look forward to hearing from you!
