My last posting was about all the gratitude I felt on Mother's Day. All that still stands.

Lately, I find myself particularly bummed out by this situation with gas prices. I know I'm preaching to the choir, if you're reading this and you drive an automobile. It's just so depressing.

I can't even bear to look at the price when I fill up my tank. I've started filling it up when it's half full instead of when it's empty, but now that price is the same as it was to fill the whole thing a few months ago.

When will this end?

I think I know the answer to that. Not in the forseeable future.

I'm starting to change my habits, like so many of us, and cutting back on other things.

It's the feeling of being so powerless that's the most frustrating of all.

Any ideas? Any positivity? Should I try to ride a bike from Delaware County at three in the morning???

Thanks.

I just got my driver's license a little over 2 months ago, and I would love to go out and just joy ride to have fun with it, but it's not worth it with the gas prices.

I am an avid bike rider, and I thought that would change when I got my license, but it didn't. I still ride my bike just as often because it's too expensive to just "drive for fun". You can "bike for fun" all you want and it doesn't cost a penny.

Every morning at 6 AM I am out riding my bike. I only drive if I have a set destination, such as going to work or school, which are both right up the street from me.

The gas prices are a big disappointment for young drivers such as myself. I just wish they would go down so I could actually enjoy driving without having to worry about using up too much gas.

It is scary isn't it? I hear what you are saying. I too have cut back on going places, its hard when you have kids though. Unfortunately we are powerless to this situation. I don't think riding your bike that distance to work is a good idea and plus it will mess up your hair if its raining....and you should know when that is happening, lol. Try and stay up, they will come down eventually.

Chin up! We will make it through this. We can change our habits to help a little. Combining trips, planning our routes when running errands, asking neighbors if they have similar errands, driving slower to save on gas mileage and checking tire pressure. These are all simple things that can mount up. Also, when it comes time to purchase that next car...look at the sticker and read the consumer report to determine the right vehicle for your driving habits. We will be fine! See you all at the Jersey shore this summer! One tank away! :) ps Love you Sue...long time follower of your forecasts! Watch you every am.

Driving slower ?

That's too hard to do :-)

I go about 80 mph on highways...otherwise, 5 - 10 mph over the speed limit.

And that's just on the bicycle.

LOL, JT. Yeah, in the car I go at least 120 mph. LOL.

I know it is hard to go slower for me too...except on 422 in the mornings, when I could walk faster than the traffic!! But my car tells me the milage I am getting, and I notice that as I go slower, the MPG goes up--from 37 to 40--if I go under 80 (yes a hybrid can get over 80--it IS a Honda).

That said, I still have trouble slowing down unless I have too.

Not only driving on the road, but also how often you mow your lawn (if you have one) is something to consider.
As far as driving, I wonder if it would come to a point where some employers could go to a work schedule where employees could work from home one day per week. I know that it would not work for all jobs, but when you sit in front of a computer a big part of the day, or have a job that is conducive to working away from a specific site, that might not be such a bad idea. Of course, on the employer side of things, there are other considerations.
Sue, can you do the weather from home?!

It has always been my dream to do the weather from my bed. But since my husband is sleeping in it during the program, that could present a problem.

Thanks for the positive responses, everyone. The gas prices are still a bummer, but I also remember the gas rationing in the 70s, and that didn't last forever.

How can you remember the gas rationing in the 70s when you weren't even old enough to drive then? You must have heard about it on GDP!
Have a nice day :)

I just opened my store in the mountains. I can not get my pumps working because they won't go to the high prices!! Not to mention the cost to fill my three tanks and the fact that I will make all of about 3 pennies off of each gallon. I can not believe the oil companies are making so much off of us. It just makes me feel sick!! I miss you all in Philly!!

Yes gas prices are certainly a problem and without a whole bunch we can do about it very quickly. But one thing that can be resolved- and should be resolved as quickly as possible, is the system I saw in place this morning, holding up Steve Keeleys pants!
Er...I'm referring to his suspendders!
Now I don't mean to be harsh here, and I could be mistaken, but my husband agreed, they looked like they were an advertisement for "DOUGLAS SALT WATER TAFFY" - you that familiar little dog-at least from the view we saw. AHHHH.... SUMMERTIME!
( at least he went a little lighter on the make up today)
Sorry Steve- we really do love you! I miss seeing you in the Sky Fox!

Aww stop whining! Driving is a luxury not a necessity. What is obscene are the profits oils company's are STILL making. Its funny, I have not seen any protests in the US like there have been in Europe, and they pay twice the price we do. Lets all take the bus for one day and force the oil companies to cut their profit and subsidize the pump prices, yeah like that will every happen.

Gas near me was 3.32 today. Lowest I have seen it in a long time.

Sue, this doesn't have anything to do with the gas crisis. I have to vent about the National Anthem at the World Series. Why do these So Called "Artists" feel they have to revise our Country's Anthem to their type of performing. I was VERY disappointed. Just sing the song the way it was intended!! Kate Smith sang "God Bless America" just as it should be!!! Taylor Swift is schelduled to sing the Anthem when the Phillies come home. I hope she doesn't put a cutsey country spin to it!!! Any comments?

Thanks for your comment on this blog, dabby-girl. Just reading over the postings, I have to laugh, because just a few months ago I was so depressed about the gas prices. Now, they're lower than they've been in a long time, and we're all bummed out about the Wall Street crisis. I can only hope that things are looking better in this regard in a few months, too.

About the National Anthem: I have to say honestly that it doesn't really bother me when an artist sings the National Anthem in their own style. However, it did get a bit ridiculous the other night, when the New Kids On The Block took about twenty minutes to get through the song.

I hope Taylor Swift does a good job, too. Personally, I'd rather hear Tim McGraw!

Thanks again..................

I have been the weather anchor on Good Day Philadelphia since December of 1997. It's been quite a ride, and I've been extremely fortunate. I've spent much of my time during the years taking weather on location. Those experiences have afforded me so many opportunities I never would have had otherwise. I've visited countless schools and been able to show our viewers some of the positive things going on in the classrooms in our area. We've been able to focus on the many teachers working very hard, and the students who will always remember when TV came to their school. I'm also proud of encouraging our viewers to be "tourists in their own hometown." We've taken you to special spots, like the Camden Children's Garden, the Constitution Center, and hundreds more. These are places I might have procrastinated about visiting on my own, but thanks to this job, I've been able to feel so much a part of this community as the folks out there have opened their arms. How lucky am I? My daughter has been a part of this program, periodically, from the time she was six months old. And even now, people who recognize me and Nia when we're out and about remember when I did the weather from our house on her first day of kindergarten. Now she is in fifth grade! So many of her childhood memories are preserved on Good Day, and I am grateful. We continue to make amazing upgrades to our equipment here at Fox 29, and it's exciting to work with the very latest in state-of-the-art technology. My latest thrill is this blog. I look forward to hearing from you!
