The St. Louis Cardinals may
be getting another slugger in their lineup.
Is Matt Holliday worth the price to create more havoc with
opposing pitchers? Here are some of the
statistics and salary numbers for each player:
The Cards will have to pay Holliday anywhere from $10
million to $13 million for one year then he becomes a free agent – this could
mean MORE money.
Ludwick on the other hand will become a free agent after the
2011 season. So, the Cards could virtually
save around $9 million each year until late 2011.
Here’s the way I look at it – if Ludwick performs like he did in 2008 then why gamble.
Yes, Holliday is a “name brand” player but the ultimate goal is
production. Ludwick played in more games
and had better numbers overall and at Wal-Mart prices!
What is your opinion on this possible acquisition?

Ok fellow bloggers - I need help re-lacing a baseball glove. I have googled and googled and found nothing that is helpful.
I would like to find a step by step video if possible. So, if any bloggers out there has this knowledge please post the video.
I did find some information on the EHelp site but it really didn't show me the roadmap (weave) of the laces. Thanks.

Does it really matter if we hear more bad news more often
during the day? I remember when Fox 2
first came out with The Edge at 10pm claiming it wouldn’t be the same old
newscast – well, guess what…
Fox 2’s news at 9pm is probably the most watched newscast
since a lot of people are trying to get to bed by 10pm. Ok, that’s how it is at our home. When it comes to getting the news, I could
care less how the reporter/anchor looks rather I’d like to get the breaking news
quicker and accurately.
So, the item that “Two St. Louis stations combine news”
means nothing to me. I guess it’s sort
of like being the first (Channel 5) to broadcast in High Definition. You still have to get the new correct …
first.
Fox 2 – just keep doing what you are doing and you’ll be
fine. JMO
Here’s the article in the Belleville News Democrat today.
2 St. Louis
stations combine news
The Associated Press
ST. LOUIS
--
Two St. Louis
television stations plan to combine their newsrooms and share news services.
The agreement between the Fox affiliate, KTVI-TV, and KPLR-TV, which is part
of the CW network, was announced Tuesday by the parent companies. Local TV
Holdings LLC owns KTVI; Tribune Co. owns KPLR.
Under the agreement, KTVI will move to KPLR's offices. The combined newsroom
will produce staggered news for nine hours a day.
KTVI General Manager Spencer Koch says viewers want local news programs
throughout the day, not just morning, early evening and at night.
The parent companies also announced a local marketing agreement for their TV
stations in Denver,
Fox affiliate KDVR and CW affiliate KWGN. Both stations will operate out of the
KDVR studios.

Here is the story...
Tryst turns into $50K robbery for RNC delegate
By STEVE KARNOWSKI
Associated Press Writer
MINNEAPOLIS
--
Police are trying to find a woman who apparently drugged a
Republican National Convention delegate and robbed him of about $50,000 worth
of jewelry, cash and other items in his hotel room.
Gabriel Schwartz, a Denver attorney and party
donor, told police he met the woman in a bar at the luxurious Hotel Ivy in
downtown Minneapolis
and invited her to his room early on Sept. 4, a few hours after Alaska Gov.
Sarah Palin accepted the GOP vice presidential nomination.
Once there, police say, the woman made drinks and told Schwartz to get
undressed.
The 29-year-old delegate told police that was the last thing he remembered.
Police believe he was drugged but aren't sure what drug he was given, police
Sgt. William Palmer said Tuesday.
When Schwartz awoke, the woman was gone and so were cash and belongings that
included a watch he valued at $30,000.
"We have no doubt this happened," Palmer said. "The guy has
been very forthcoming with us. He's been very helpful in the
investigation."
The delegate gave police a detailed description, but investigators had no
suspects, Palmer said. He stressed that investigators don't believe Schwartz
did anything wrong.
"It's embarrassing to admit that I was a target of a crime,"
Schwartz said in a statement Tuesday. "I was drugged and had about $50,000
of personal items stolen."
"As a single man, I was flattered by the attention of a beautiful woman
who introduced herself to me. I used poor judgment. If there is any good that
can come from this humiliation, it is to caution others that date rape drugs
can be used on men, too," he said.
Speedy's thoughts...
Wow – a 29 year old
single male was “shopping around” and got what he didn’t want. This sounds like one of those horny
Democrats! And most bloggers know
where I stand on politics! Dude meets a female, they go to his room and then he wakes up with about $50
thousand less in cash and jewelry.
What in the heck is
this young pup doing carrying (or having) that much in jewelry? I don’t know if I am more amazed at his lack of
good judgement with the gal or the fact that he had so much valuable jewelry –
period.
It goes to show you
that a night of sex (which apparently he didn’t have) can be quite costly. Let this be a lesson to all you horny rich politicians
out there – STICK to your business and you might stay out of trouble!

* From the Belleville News Democrat (bnd.com).MACOMB, Ill. --
Officials of
Western Illinois University weren't happy to learn the Macomb Police
Department failed to inform them that a film crew for an MTV reality
show were in town last week. The crew from America's Finest Television filmed local police officers on patrol for the MTV show "Busted."
Western
Illinois University vice president for student services Garry Johnson
on Wednesday expressed concerns the television show would make Macomb
and the university "look bad."
However, Deputy Chief Curt Barker
said he's watched several episodes of the television show. He said he
believes it does not cast any of the communities shown in a negative
way.
Barker added the show follows up with defendants the police
arrest during filming to see how their experience with the court system
affected them.

Over two years ago Cindy Schuenke fell into a burning home’s
basement while trying to save the life of a trapped resident. This Overland firefighter was doing the job
she was hired to do by Overland.
This hero should not be fired! Isn’t this the same city a few years ago that
had some Mayoral conflicts with a Police Chief?
This "all boys" fire committee needs to rethink their decisions for it will
be very costly.
I don’t even think that Ms. Schuenke is asking for permanent
disability as most individuals would do – she’s trying to prove that she can
work as a firefighter once again.

The LPGA requires all member golfers to speak English.
Players were told by LPGA commissioner Carolyn Bivens that
by the end of 2009, all players who have been on the tour for two years must
pass an oral evaluation of their English skills or face a membership
suspension. Hey, it’s about time. This should be done in every sport and every
job in the United States. If you do not speak the language (English)
then either learn how to do so or get the heck out.
This new “law” will take effect in late 2009. I’d like to see this happen in every
professional sport. Could you imagine
the MLB interviews then – we could actually understand what the heck some are
saying. I just wonder what Ichiro says
in Japanese after a strikeout - NOTHING - because he seldom strikes out!
Let me hear it – good/bad/ugly – BRING IT!

What happened to the Cardinals tonight? Will the Cards win the Wild Card? Etc....etc...
I want to hear your input and good discussion on what is in store for the Cardinals for the remainder of 2008. Whether it be talking about an excellent outing (18-3 win) or a 12-0 loss - your opinions are wanted.
Yes, we'll see some whiners on here and yes some know-it-alls but BRING IT so we can state our objections!

I find it amazing when I give
the cashier a $20, $50, or sometimes (on rare occasion) a $100 – they always
use their little markers to see if it’s a “good bill”. What if it isn’t and I had no idea? What should I do? What would you do?
We are always getting these
bills back as change. If I go to the ATM
to get $100 out it gives me 5 twenty dollar bills. Should I use my special marker at the ATM to
verify the authenticity of the paper?
I believe we as consumers
need to make sure that these stores aren’t passing on a counterfeit bill to
us. So, next time you get a $20 (or even
a $10) bill as change, WHIP out your special marker to declare it as real
money. Who knows, maybe it’s the
retailer passing on the bad buck.

Illinois Governor warns that $1.5 billion
needs to be trimmed from the budget.
I have
an idea – how about living in your free mansion that we pay for and stop flying
back and forth to the State of Chicago. This might free up nearly half of
million.
Get rid
of all the perks these Senators and Representatives get including the decent
salary/retirement plans. If the decision makers in the State of Illinois
cannot come up with a viable budget solution then cut their pay in half!
In
order to cut the fat take a look at things besides cutting medical and
education – a reduction of workforce might be better. It’s called
attrition and there are many that could retire with the proper
incentives. Listen up Illinois
decision makers – DO YOUR JOB!
Anyone
having additional input on the State's wasteful spending - please post
them. These politicians need to be held accountable for their wasteful
spending. I can tell you this – Governor Rod definitely doesn’t spend the
type of money on haircuts like John Edwards did! Rod – get a cut!

It’s summer and that means more people are out and
about. It’s now time to prevent crime
from happening in your neighborhoods.
You should already have a Neighborhood Watch (NW) program intact – if
not, call your local Police Department to get one started.
Our NW consists of a full diagram of all residents living on
the street, all contact numbers, email addresses, and IM names. We have volunteers pass out a calendar in
order to get “watchers” signed up for what day/times to be on call.
Yeah, nothing has happened on our street since it’s
inception in 2000 but prevention is the name of the game. No neighborhood is exempt from crime
therefore be prepared and be safe. Let
me hear what you are doing for your NW programs.

I don’t know if you're having breathing problems like
myself but if this is a hint to summer – BEWARE! I am hearing so many people sniffing/snotting
around lately – are you sick or just have severe allergies?
I know Dave Murray (and others) do allergy counts but what
is in the air so quickly and in great magnitude that is causing non-sufferers …
problems too? I’ve heard people saying
that they’ve NEVER had allergies until this year.
I know this isn’t my typical controversial blog … my war
this time is against Mother Nature. HELP!

Hey guys – it’s summer and that means you’ll see many boys
and girls playing baseball or softball.
Some are Parks and Recreation leagues while others are Select leagues –
both are competitive and fun to watch.
If you have free time on a given day/evening go out and
support your local team. Every seat is a
cheap seat. And, if you are a company
looking to sponsor a team, talk to a coach and he/she will tell you what they
need.
It’s all about SUPPORTING our youth. Yes, I know baseball isn’t the only thing
that happens during the summer … but it is for us!
Please post any tournament dates for the blogging community.

Great! Ok, let me get
this straight. If I make a call to a
foreign country, Homeland Security (HS) or Big Daddy is recording it – or even
listening to my conversation.
EXCELLENT idea – now when I call Charter or Dell (et al) for
customer service someone in HS is now acting as my witness that their customer
service STINKS! Oh, a little hint to HS
– be sure to have a multi language specialist available – you’ll need it.
Will I get a case number from HS in order for me to prove
that I didn’t order certain items from Charter?
Just because the foreigner answering the phone didn’t understand that I
said, “cancel my account”, NOT add the full digital high definition package – HS will
cover for me!
Great idea! Love it! I now feel more secure calling Charter, Dell,
and others companies using substandard foreign customer service. I knew our tax dollars were being spent
wisely!
