Okay, I know I'm going to catch a lot of fire for this, but I've been quiet about as long as I can. I am SICK TO DEATH of the media's coverage of every little thing that happens in the Catholic Church and with the Pope! I read somewhere that 22% of Americans are Catholic. If that's the case, why are the other 78% constantly having to listen to and watch what is going on with the 22%? It seems like everything in that church is considered big news. And the media treats the Pope like he is God. Well, he isn't! He puts on his pants (if he wears pants under his robe) one leg at a time just like everyone else. He is not God, he is a MAN. And the Catholic Church is no better than any Protestant church. I am not Catholic, I have nothing against the Catholic religion. I believe, to each his own. I am just sick and tired of hearing about them. I am a faithful Fox 2 fan, but this morning I was really happy to see that NBC chose to stick with regular programming rather than live coverage of the Pope.

There is a lot of ranting and raving about the war in Iraq. What I would like to know is this: have you talked to any of the soldiers to find out what they think about being over there?

So, it looks like the auto workers may be going on strike. There is only word that I can think of to describe the UAW...greedy! I am pretty sure that the majority of them make more money than I ever have, or ever will, even when I get done with school. Yet they're not happy. Have they ever thought about what they would do if NAFTA caused them to lose their jobs? What would they do if the plant just closed up and moved overseas? If they think this could never happen, they'd better think again. There have already been a number of "good ol' American" companies who have done just that, and auto makers could do it, too. No matter how much money union workers make, they want more. The insurance never seems to be good enough. What they don't think about is what it would be like if their job left. I know about this because I'm going through it right now. Because of my job loss being due in part to NAFTA, the government is now paying for my schooling. In the meantime I'm living on unemployment with no insurance. I had to go to the doctor. Between the office call and medication, it cost me almost $100. That's nearly half a week's income for me. Do I wish I had insurance where I had to pay maybe $20 or $30 for an office call, and a copay for my medication? You darned right I do. But I have NO insurance, and a VERY small income because of NAFTA. Now I'm asking, which is worse, not getting quite as of a pay increase as you wanted, and your insurance plan not being quite as good as you wanted, or not having any at all? I absolutely hate that American companies are moving overseas, but I can understand why they do it. The American worker is putting himself out of a job.

I have some questions for all you. With Christmas coming up, how many of you are going to be buying toys? Are you going to play Russian Roulette and buy toys made in China with the chance that they might be safe? Or are you going to look a little harder for things made here? Do you think it's time for us to stop buying Chinese-made products because of their poor quality? I'm not just talking about toys...remember the dog food and toothpaste.

Did you all hear about the fatality, single vehicle accident in Franklin County? Apparently a 24-year-old women had 5 children, ages less than a year old to 5 years old, in a mini-van. She was buckled in, as were 3 of the children. The 2-year old and 5-year old were not. The 2-year old was killed, and the 5-year old received serious injuries. The 4-year old had moderate injuries, and everyone else had minor injuries.
My heart goes out to this woman because she has to live with this for the rest of her life, but at the same time I am ANGRY!! Why was she driving with two chidren unrestrained?? She had HER seatbelt on! The younger one should have been in a carseat, and the the older one at least in a booster seat. How can people be that irresponsible? My car does not move until everyone is buckled-in!

Have any of you done the "Are you smarter than a St. Louis 5th grader?" pop quizzes? I'm ashamed! I graduated high school in the top 10% of my class. Granted, that was in 1969, but last fall I took the ACTs and scored a 25, and a couple of years ago I had a 3.0 grade point average in a college course I took. I thought I was relatively intelligent, but now I'm wondering if I could graduate kindergarten today! So, I have to say...I am NOT smarter than a 5th grader!

I could not believe it when I heard that those poor peoples' bodies were found in THEIR OWN HOME! And they had to be found by a family member, at that. And their van was ONE block from their house?! Apparently the officers involved in the search need to be given a little refresher course. All things considered, I would have thought they would have gone through that house a little more thoroughly, and at least searched the neighborhood for the van, before broadening the search into other counties. I think that at the very least there is some serious butt-chewing in order.

I was sitting on the edge of the couch, biting my nails, and hiding my eyes for a good part of last night's game. That had to be about the best game I've seen in a long time. When Molina hit his homer, I almost cried. Watching his excitement was great! It couldn't have happened to a better person. I went into the game a little worried about the pitching, but they sure came through. Now everyone says the Tigers are going to beat the Cards...I DON'T THINK SO!!!

Is there a logical reason why some baseball fans feel the need to reach onto the playing field to try to get a baseball? Is it really THAT important? I think anyone who does that should be removed from the ballpark. It interferes with the game, and I don't care which team hit it, it's not right!
