I think it is absolutely ridiculous that people are now complaining about how they have come across situations where there have been mistakes with there dispensed drugs. Such as the young woman that was interview two nights ago when Rite Aid accidentally miss-dosed her 2-year old daughter. I, myself, work for Rite Aid and I think how she presented this situation was absurd. She does not work in a pharmacy therefore she has NO idea what we technicians go through on a daily basis. We are yelled at for reasons beyond our control and are treated lower than you could imagine. My basic job is to dispense prescription drugs in a timely manner, not be cursed at and told how to do my job by people who I am only trying to help by giving them a medication that can cure them. The pharmacy I currently work at is so insanely busy that all of us are worked too hard with little pay. The store fills OVER 600 scripts a day and it is none of our faults when we have a 1 hour wait because of the stack of prescriptions that come pouring in. So it gives us two options, either fill the prescription and take OUR TIME and have a better chance of it coming out correctly OR have the patient rush us and 'huff and puff' that the wait is an hour long. So take your pick. This is probably the situation with the lady I mentioned above. Every single time a mother comes into our store with a sick child they expect us to pull the prescription out of some hole in our bodies and hand it too them right away, not caring that there are other people ahead of them. This gives us the ability to make mistakes EASILY when we are rushed to fill the prescription. I personally think that Rite Aid is NOT to blame for this, or the pharmacy that dispensed this medication. It is the own patients fault for the mistake. She has never worked in a pharmacy, and she has no idea what happens in that world behind the counter. It is filled with overworked, over-busy people. And yes, I do have a child and when they are sick making them better IS my #1 priority. But I also understand that she isn’t the only sick child in the whole world and don’t expect anyone to put her ahead of the rest of the world. So the next time you take your prescription to a pharmacy, realize just what you are doing when you start yelling at the people behind the counter when they are ONLY TRYING TO HELP YOU. Stop being so impatient and wait your turn.

Ok, and what's the excuse for when I drop off a prescription, tell you to take as long as it needs - I'll be back later to pick it up, and instead of giving me my fiance's cholesterol medication, you give me an asthma medication?

Mistakes happen. It's your job to try to prevent these mistakes from happening. If that means having your corporate headquarters make a new policy that states there is a minimum 15 minute wait, then so be it. But YOU need to push for that to happen.

That being said, the initial woman was a moron. Who the hell gives their child 3 tablespoons of medication at multiple times a day, especially since that's not what the doctor told her to do?

Oh my god! I did say my GOD. Because, if you don't take time to be sure you prescribed what the doctor ordered you are playing GOD. Yes, even through a careless mistake. You must close your ears and tune people out. You need to concentrate on your responsibility at all times or SOMEONE WILL DIE from use of the wrong medication. Each and every customer "must" depend on you for support to be sure that they have the right medicine in that bottle. It sounds like you truly need a vacation or break. Working with the public is one of the most hardness things to do. You make it sound like Rite Aide needs a system and a time span to serve the people. People should only need to wait a reasonable amount of time for service and to know the possibility that their local Rite Aide Pharmacy employees will not kill them

Problem #1, doctors shouldn't even be writing this many prescriptions! The pharmaceutical companies are getting rich and Americans are getting no healthier, just more dependent on more of their drugs.

It's not just Rite Aid. This over-medication epidemic is affecting all aspects of society in including hospitals and nursing homes, not just pharmacies. Americans should not be taking this many drugs. It's almost a joke now that if you have to be in the hospital, get out as soon as you can before you get an infection or some mistake is made in dispensing medicines. I wouldn't even take a pill today unless I examined it to make sure it was the right pill and I knew what ALL the side effects were and asked if there were natural alternatives to taking the drug.

You shouldn't be this busy at Rite Aid, frankly, but it's not your fault. But it's better for people to wait one hour or two hours and be assured of getting the right drug than to have stressed out pharmacists dispensing the wrong drug in error. People today have no clue how dangerous it is to take the wrong drug. Often the effects are irreversible. Also shame on Rite Aid for not staffing better if the volume is this high. They can afford to hire more people if you're filling that many prescriptions.
