Rick_Garcia's Blog

Refer to my previous blog dated April 18th titled "Lakers close but no cigar".
In that blog I predicted the Lakers would win the West. I also predicted the Celtics would take the East. So far so good. But bad news for Lakers fans. I predicted the Celtics would beat the Lakers in the NBA finals. I just don't think the match-up favors the Lakers. This series will come down to defense. My fear is the Lakers are vulnerable in that area. But here is the intangible,. Phil Jackson may be the key. He can out coach Doc Rivers in my opinion. But does he have the horses for Garnett, Pierce and Allen? And will Kobe listen to him down the stretch in crunch time and run down the shot clock instead of putting up an ill-advised shot giving the Celtics one more chance to score? (Remember game 4 in San Antonio?)

I challenge you to think with your mind basketball fans and not your heart and tell me who you think will win this series and why?

Lakers will win. I am a Celtics fan and I think Lakers will win. Matchups, Smatchups. This comes down to one big factor - Kobe. The difference in this series is the difference between stars and superstars. The Celtics have 3 stars, but no superstars. The Lakers have a superstar and in basketball, unlike any other sport, a superstar can impose his will and take over a game regardless of anybody else on the floor.

The Celtics play great defense but they took everything they had to get past LeBron in 7 games. Kobe is better than LeBron. When he decides to take over at various points in this series, the Celtics will have no answer. Gasol will have big problems defending KG but the difference is that KG will not impose his will in crunch time, he will just continue to play his same game (catch ball in post, kick out of double-team).

The other factor, albeit a much smaller factor, is the coaching match-up. Phil Jackson and his 9 NBA titles vs. Glenn Rivers who won his first playoff series 6 weeks ago. The only solace I can take is that somehow Tom Coughlin outcoached Bill Belichick in the Super Bowl, so I suppose that the impossible can still happen in sports. We'll see.

Rick, hold out hope for our Lakers.

Is history on our side? I believe so. Let's look back to 1987, when the Lakers beat the Celtics in the finals... 4-2.

I interviewed Magic Johnson today & he reminded me of that fantastic series!!! He played a big enough role :)

Go Lakers!!! I can't wait.

Encouagement for the fans!!!!

There is a story of Laker fans
Who wished to be up in the stands,
to cheer L.A. to victory
and beat those Celtics 4 to 3!
The other team may be up now,
but they will not see us bow
to defeat from their whack a** moves,
L.A. will come back when they get their groove.
Keep it together Laker fans,
cheer until the we win our thing,
for the Celtics are an obstacle
trying to keep us from our rings!
Laker haters watch out now
we are right behind you with our MVP plow.
Boston fans, take delight in the fact,
that we are going to take our title back!

Written by a very concerned and loyal Laker fan, Christina!!!
