I'm not quite sure where I stand on free trade. And I am okay with the leaders of American Baseball wanting to make the sport international. But it makes no sense to me to start the regular season on any soil other than American. It's a great idea having Major League baseball teams travel abroad like the Dodgers did when they met the San Diego Padres in China. But that was during the exhibition season. The league then made the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics go to Japan last Tuesday to open the major league season. Then the teams traveled back to the U.S to resume the exhibition season. Does this seem fair when these players will have to play 162 games over the next several months? Maybe one day there truly will be a World Series. One where the best team in  America (and I mean really best...not a college or minor league team) meets the best from Asia or Latin America. But can we please allow the fans of this country to enjoy opening day with their teams in their parks while eating hot dogs and cracker jacks. After all it is still America's Pastime or is it??

Wow racist (just kidding)! Yeah let's export the sport globally. Toyota is now an official car of Nascar and with GM, Ford and perhaps Chrysler going going almost going, why not that sport too. BTW, I have always said it would be better to have a one owner per car/driver for Nascar, but then again what is a bit of honesty and common sense to a FOX sport (or partial season killing sport) like that.

Free trade means American hands selling American made products "Made in America" to foreign markets not manufacturers dumping Americans, employing the God Damned slave labor country's people and then flooding our markets. A little common sense goes a very long way, that's where I stand, so how's that?

so my guess they didn't ask you to throw out the first ball in Toronto...as a Red Sox fan I'm also upset that they would do that to any team for that matter now on top of jet lag they have to play 20 straight games without a break this season also.you think after paying millions for players they would like to keep them healthy and not put them at risk..i guess now without steroids giving the game a boost MLB has to do whatever to keep interest in the game..the Red Sox,Yankees,Dodgers ,Cubs are all big draws for opposing teams and their fans ..its going to be an interesting season to say the least i think the highlight will be the last year for Yankee stadium..tickets for the last game against the Orioles are already going up each day..without Bonds ,Clemens two of the top players now just bad memories going out in suspicion and dishonor its time for the game to recover ..the one thing about baseball somehow it always has ..just like America...PLAY BALL

I agree with you Rick.

I also want to make note of the superb job Vince Scully did on Saturday night during KCAL's coverage of that rather lame Coliseum game against the Red Sox. Vin spent all nine innings telling absolutely great stories of the Dodgers' 50 years in L.A. I enjoyed every minute of it especially when he showed stills from that emotionally charged night in 1959 when that crowd of 93,000+ honored Roy Campanella. I was there.

Thanks Vin... you delivered an evening of wonderful memories. GO DODGERS!

Cheers, Bob

ricks, i think it is fun to make the rich ball players travel around the world and play one game. was the game truly part of the 162 game season? was it on TV? i cannot concentrate on sports.

Rick,

I would like to see the games all start on American soil...Baseball is our past time! It's fine if they do some traveling for good will, and I hope they all have fun going to foreign countries at times. By the way, on a side note: Go Angels!!!
