Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I blogged or even signed on Fox8.  My beloved mother-in-law has been battling lung cancer since last August and the cancer finally won and took her life on May 12th.  She has been going downhill since December when they found a blockage in her intestines and had to remove that (the cancer had spread).  She finally got out of the nursing home & was home only a week when she fell and broke her pelvis.  Then while recouping from that she got pneumonia.  She got better for a week and then took a turn for the worst.  She was a smoker, who before she got lung cancer had emphysema & asthma.  It was terrible watching her struggle for breath, especially in the last 5 months. 

While it's true that something is going to kill you eventually, gasping for breath is not the way to go.  It was bad for her, but her children and grandchildren and all who loved her will carry these images of her for the rest of our lives.

If you are a smoker, please, please try to quit.  If you're not a smoker, don't start.  I don't want anyone else to suffer as she did and I don't want you to have to watch someone die like I did.

I am very sorry to hear about your mother-in-law. I hope you and your family are doing ok. Cancer is a terrible thing to watch a loved one go through.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I watched my grandfather die from lung cancer and it was something I will never forget.

I am sorry as well. I can only imagine suffication being one of the hardest ways of dying. But at least she is not suffering any longer.

sorry to hear about your loss. cancer does not care who it gets.I lost a very good friend a year ago to lung cancer and when found out it was in the stage IV and she lived one day shy of her three month life span. She was a smoker. god bless you and your family. my prayers and thoughts are with you and your loved ones.

Pikie Sorry to hear about your loss, I lost my mom at 66 only a couple years ago with the exact things you just went through, I hated it and I quit smoking and urge everyone to please try to quit. it is a terrible way to go.
I think about Mom every single day Her words and thoughts are always with me and I see her in so many other people I pass everyday. I feel that she is checking in on me. She still sits on my shoulder and leads my way and thoughts telling me she really never left me at all.
hopefully these words will help ease the pain of your loss.

Thank you all for your kind and wonderful words. You don't meet too many people like her in a lifetime. When I married her son, she told me I was her daughter and everytime I saw her she told me she loved me. I will miss her. And peeved, you are so right about her sitting on your shoulder---I can feel her still with us. Thanks again everyone.
