We've got Piestewa Freeway, Piestewa Peak, now we have to hear ad nauseum about every memorial service that her people decide to have in her name.
While I can sympathize with her family's loss, I am getting tired of all of the things that are going on in her name being news!
It's almost like she was the only Native American and/or the only Arizonan who has given her life in this war. How about all the other Arizonans, surely some of which were Native Americans who we never hear of? Many families are living with the terrible loss of a loved one in the war. They don't have roads named after them, peaks renamed for them or annual memorials on and on in their name!
Let's get over Laurie Piestewa and let her rest in peace!

I agree, well said. It's sad she got killed, but she did nothing heroic to afford the acclaim she's been getting. It'a all political.
Why aren't they honoring the 4000 soldiers killed so far with historic monuments across the country. What about all the 100's of thousands killed in all the previous wars. Where are their single memorials.
If they wanted to put a memorial on Piestewa's tribal grounds, fine, but leave Squaw Peak alone.

I realize it's programmed. When a person pays out money for a show, but the lights are turned off...then there is no show to see, is there? Figure it out. Go into a resturant, pay for your meal and then be not served! Figure it out yet?

I am an 81 year old opinionated man who has lived life moderately and is now slowing down to smell the flowers and people watch. I am mostly conservative in my thinking, with a little liberal thrown in here and there. I am willing to discuss (or argue) almost any topic, but one thing on which I am adamant is my faith. I am a born again Christian and feel strongly that the only way to eternal life is through Jesus Christ. Anything else is open for discussion.
