I see by the news (Fox10, of course) that a Pit Bull was found shot 5 times in an alley.

The only problem I have with that is that the shooter wasted 4 bullets! One, well placed would have done the job, and he would have 4 more for the next 4 Pit Bulls he runs across running loose!

In my humble opinion, the Pit Bull is one breed of dog that has no right to live. The entire breed should be euthanized, and any future generations outlawed! The Rottweiler runs a very close second!

Now I'll hear from the bleeding  heart animal lovers. But before you rate me as some kind of sadistic animal hater, be informed that I have owned dogs and cats for most of my life, and am now happy to be the caregiver of an adorable 9 month old Shih-Tzu who relishes in the fact that he has both my wife and I in the palm of his little paw!

I was always afraid of pit bulls, overall.,and rotties, but try watching the 'dog whisperer',
he has 40 dogs all kinds of breeds, and alot are pit bulls. the 'pack' he calls them are well behaved, and i was impressed by the show!
Any dog that is not given love and attention on a regular basis is not good, 'bonding' should be done with any dog. I have a neighbor that had 2 pit bulls, and lots of times they would really fight alot, and even draw blood, unbelievable, as these dogs were left outside no matter what, never taken for walks in the park, never seen or heard the owners giving them attention! They finally got rid of one pit bull, but i still say alot of their attitudes is how they were brought up and handled.. just like humans. If u are not going to give your dog attention and love dont have a dog, espeically a pit-bull just cause u think its cool to have one.

I can't blame the dog for the way it acts. I blame the owners.
I blame myself for my poochies jumping on people when they come in my front door because I have never trained them to stay down.
A dog is only as good as it's owner trains them.
I have met very nice Rottweilers and a couple sweet Pit bulls. You can't judge every dog because of a few bad ones.

When I was growing up German Shepard's and Dobermans were the dogs to stay away from. Now it's Pit bulls and Rottweilers. Which dog is next? The Bichon? The Lab? The Collie?

Wait till that Shitzoo bites your frigging nose off in your sleep or chews your wifes toes down to a nub while she's napping.
What a whimp of a dog for a real man to own, how many times have you stepped on that thing trying to walk it or put a dog biscuit up it's butt because you cant tell the front from the back?

Paul, I won't be one of those bleeding hearts on you. I suspect you'll get slammed as being an animal hater and before it's over with the bleeding hearts will be telling you they feel so sorry for the poor dog you own, as you can't possibly love it if you feel the way you do about killing pit bulls. I know, as I've been the victim of such hatred because I wanted to kill a dog, or get rid of it, because it killed every chicken I had, because I believe slaughter houses for horses are sort of a necessary evil, and because I'd rather shoot a stay dog coming on to my property than to look at it unless I know it's a neighbors dog that really did accidentally get loose. I don't know about euthanizing ALL pit bulls, and I agree that if you really know what you're doing something like a pit bull will not necessarily be a threat (I watch the Dog Whisperer, too, and it's a great show to learn by). But there are tons of dog owners out there (I would say the majority) that don't have a clue, so the breeds like pit bulls ARE dangerous. I would not have one roaming my area, it would be dead.

Hey Knotyboy, I'll have you know that I have had big dogs in the past, including a 95 pound Silver Gray German Shepherd that looked more like a wolf than a dog, and have loved every one of them. I've also had the "pleasure" of cleaning up after them. As much as I like the larger breed, I now have a small house, no kids, and, at 81, some problems walking, standing or bending over, so the small breed is my choice for this time of my life, and the Shih-Tzu has earned the reputation of being the most intelligent of the small breeds.
The one I have now is the second Shih-Tzu, acquired after I had to have my original 13 year old put to sleep. This little guy (9 months old) is a bundle of love and playful, but also so adaptable to my life style that if I decide to take a nap, he's right along with me. I don't worry at all about my nose or the wife's toes. They're all perfectly safe.

Blame the owner, not the breed! I had a rednose pit for 11 years, until he died from cancer. Pitbulls love people. Pit bulls being a "fighting" breed, don't like other animals. When you see a pitbull turn on a person it is because their OWNER failed to properly socialize and train the dog. They are not inherently vicious dogs. That is a behavior they are TAUGHT. There are some breeds of dogs that in the hands of an irresponsible owner can be very dangerous. Before adopting one of these breeds a person needs to be aware of the nature of the breed, and be willing to spend the extra time and effort to insure that their dog is raised to be well socialized, adjusted and behaved. ANY dog regardless of size can be taught to be mean. And NO dog should be allowed to run loose, PERIOD! BAN irresponsible OWNERS, NOT THE BREED. And I'd rather shoot stray neighbors coming on to my property than look at them! Sorry, couldn't resist!LOL

I agree BOB, the same stupid argument exists with people who want to ban guns. I've never heard of a gun just jumping up ans shooting somebody.

knotyboy, We live in a society that would rather punish 90% of the people that have done nothing wrong, rather than punish the 10% that need to be punished. Really screwed up. No accountability!

knotyboy, I have heard of and seen more than one Pit Bull jump up and attack somebody, even their owners. In 32 years of delivering the mail, I have been witness to more than a few such attacks, even to one that put a man out of work permanently.
But I agree with you re: guns. I even own such things, fully loaded and ready for use should anyone enter my home forcibly with bad ideas in mind.

How do you tell one end from the other on one of those little shaggy dogs? Count whether it blinks with one eye or two?

I am not going to condemn you for your opinion on Pitt Bulls.
But if people who own them for protection would think about how they train them to be so, we wouldn't have the visious animals; of any breed.
I just put my 12 year old Rotti to sleep, she had a loving and gentle life, well loved and trained. And if you were to ask your vet, they will tell you that Rotti's have gotten a raw deal because of someone who trained them to be bad. The actually have a very gentle nature. As for Pitt's; I own one of these also. He is the sweetest dog I have ever owned. In my younger life, I owned 22 dogs at once. I lived in Wyoming and we owned a wrecking yard. 3 of these dogs were pitt bulls. Never did they form a pack and go off killing anything! I had big and small; the biggest instagator I had was a border collie. Go figure!
I now own another border collie and he is the skiddish one. He attacked my pitt the other day and now my pitt stays close to me so it won't happen again. I own a Min Pin, all 10 lbs of her and is 13 yr old. He attacks her on a regular basis. He used to attack my Rotti before she died also. Should I hate border collies? Maybe all border collies should die! I do know if this one doesn't straighten up, I'm going to put him down. My pitt has level 2 cancer and my heart is broken. He has known abuse as a puppy and we got him at a yr old. And I can tell you this dog is such a baby. With his gentle disposition, he'd make a poster child for pitts that are raised right.
I'm glad you have such a wonderful animal, you obviously have done a good job training it. Just reme

Bikerpam, you have just written the most reasoned and most reasonable post on this topic, and I thank you. I really wish that my experience with Pit Bulls was more like yours than my own, and than what I hear on the news.
Unfortunately, after carrying mail for 32 years
I have seen the results of more than one unprovoked attack by Pits on letter carriers trying to do their job. And of course, when a Pit makes the nightly news, it's not your sweet gentle babies that get there. So I hope you can see the basis for my opinions while I will agree that the blame lies mostly with the owners. Or the breeders, since a certain aggressiveness is bred into most of them. Thank you again for your post.

I don't like Pits either and I AM an animal lover. I have been nearly attacked by Pitts at the park twice. Both times the owners said " don't worry IT doesn't bite". Well, it looked like it to me. The breed should be banned and their owners too. HA!
