So here's the deal...I'm going back to my hometown in a few weeks with my sister (Elena) and I would like to visit the house I grew up in...in Providence. 

But should I even try? Should I knock on the door of the current owners and say, "hey I'm Nefertiti, I grew up here...and would like to see my old room?"

Won't they think I'm nuts? What if I freak them out?

...

As for why I'd like to visit the old house...Well, I don't really know...I guess, I'm looking for something...I just don't know what.

Nef, go for it. I am sure if you identify yourself and say why you are there, they will let you in. Just be careful. These are dangerous times. I don't know what that neighborhood is like. Maybe you could track down the address and find a phone number and call ahead? Just a thought.
Good luck. When you get there, you will know what you are looking for. Or at the least, be able to say, "well, I'm glad I did this, and now I can move on."

I dunno, Nef, it sounds like you weren't ready to go when you had to leave that house.

I think you will find that you WERE ready, but you just didn't realize it.

By all means, go, get it out of your system. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the reception you get, (but if it stinks, I assume no responsibility :))

Bring your sister, and TELL someone where you are going and if you're not back by a certain time, they should call Joe Biden, or someone important.

Have fun, be careful, and if we never hear from you again, we'll know what happened. :)

Nef, why don't you follow up on your blogs? Do you really care for input or is the station pushing you to write something and you do it because of that?

Okay, okay -- so I've been irresponsible...I get it. I've just been dealing with a lot.

Update: went home and VISITED...no warm reception. The people that bought the house from my parents sold it to its current family...and they could careless about me. :(

I will write more...even about my scarves. I get cold easily.

My father was in the Air-Force. We lived in many homes,in many states. I often get that urge to visit also. I think that I wasn't ready to leave when we did. Maybe you also?
