I did this story last night about a 21-month-old girl who was struck and nearly killed by a hit and run driver Friday night -- and my heart simply sank.

Am I the only who thinks there have been way too many hit and run accidents/and/killings these days?

I mean c'mon who does that? Who strikes someone and leaves them behind without ever looking back? Why not stop and render aid?

--
The 21-month-old girl, Autumn Vang, is expected to fully recover from her injuries, but police say say nearly died. The little girl suffered a broken jaw, fractured eye-socket, amid other bruises. Young Vang is lucky, but many more are not.

What is your take on hit and run accidents?

I think that it's partially a result of our becoming more and more of a " get the hell outta my way" type of society. The "me, myself and I" attitude is becoming more and more prevalent.

Lack of respect for the law? Other people? Sheer and utter lack of caring? Plain old carelessness?

I wonder if they even give a second thought to the pain and anguish that they cause their victims, and those close to them? And for what?

Guess their concience has gotten lost in the shuffle.

This is probably another drunk driver. Our government make HUGE money by keeping the laws
lieniant when it comes to those who choose to drink and drive. Why, because government make huge money from alcohol taxes and fines.
As far as I'm concerned, there is no difference between leveling a gun at somebody and pulling the trigger and drunk drive. The only difference being, is that you might see the gun, you won't see a drunk driver. In my book, drunk driving is a CAPITAL crime and should be treated as such. I am not anti-alcohol, I'm pro-responsibility.

She is a precious little girl and I am pleased to hear she is going to be ok. As for whomever hit her, I hope they are found... and hung in the street.

ibejim-- how sad is it that we've become that 'type of society?" One, where no one seems to care...where you can hit and nearly kill a toddler (who's not even 2 yet) and never look back?

I'm not a mother and I'm OUTRAGED. TOUCHED by this story in more ways than one.

Movealready -- yeah many people feel this way. A crime is a crime; a life is a life. People should be responsible for the pain they cause.

gunpowderNlead- she is super cute. Grandma showed us a series of photos and in every one Autumn Vang was chipper, adorable, and smiling.

A part of me thinks the same, Jim, but, when I think about it, I'm reminded of a story I read in the paper a few years back.
I don't remember what the crime was, but the reporter said to the State Trooper investigating, " I guess you meet a lot of bad people in your work".

The Trooper replied- " No, I meet a lot of good people who have made bad decisions".

All hit and run drivers , including the one in this story, will have to live with themselves and their cowardice for the rest of their lives.
When you think about it, no judge or court would be so severe.
