Today is one of those days where I'm particularly happy that I'm a vegetarian.

Why you ask? Because I just met up with a Whitehall man that claims he found an unwelcome surprise in his hot dog.

What you ask? RUBBER! Yes, rubber!
--
Frank Mastropieri says he was looking for something simple to serve his boys, 3-year-old Tyler, and 1-year-old Alex, Wednesday, so he dropped some frozen Hatfield hotdogs into boiling water.

After serving up a plateful of chopped-up franks to his sons, he slapped one into a bun for himself and took a bite.

Only to find he was in for a huge surprise:

“I took a bite out of one and there was a piece of rubber in it…I just thought ahhh that’s disgusting. It made me feel like I had to throw up,” says Frank.
---

Now I called the makers of the hot dog and Eric Haman, a spokesperson, with Hatfield released this statement to FOX29:

“We unfortunately cannot comment on this incident at this time until we complete a thorough investigation. The first step is to get the product back to us so we can investigate whether or not the object came from our production facility.”

---

But I still want to know what you think about this whole thing? What would you do if you found a piece of rubber in your hot dog or meal? Would you think twice about where you bought it? Would you continue to buy products from that particular maker/brand? Would you sue the makers?

Let's BLOG!!! nj

I couldn't agree more! Their worry should be that they're feeding their children HOT DOGS for dinner! Rubber-roughage is the least of their worries.

any idiot can put a piece of rubber in his food to try to sue for millions of dollars, the interview was way to dramatic, a piece of rubber would pass through ,and never be a problem, these idiots were already making funeral arrangement! duh! throw it out and cook another! and make sure you don't spill Mcdonalds coffee on yourself while meeting with your lawyer and the Hatfield officials! opps

I love hot dogs - but after seeing that story, I don't think I'll ever eat another hot dog again - except at Dollar Dog Day.

I am a 64 year old male living in Lansdale. My mother's side of the family started Lansdale. For 110 years Hatfield Quality Meats (our neighbors in Hatfield) have been supplying Quality meats to our family for the full 110 years. Out of all this time there's bound to be something found in the meat. Do as we would do throw it out. Hatfield Quality Meats is a Company you can rely on, trust me.

It's all about the money. I would assume, the ordinary person would trash the dog in question, slice open the rest, and keep on eating. The fact they contacted a TV News station, and the newspapers, just says they are looking to make some money. I have been purchasing great products from Hatfield (love the sausage) for a long time, with no problems or coomplaints. They are a local company, employing local people, in business forever!!! At least they are not contracting out work to other countries!!! Let's support our local businesses, not trash them, give them the benefit of the doubt and let them respond.

By the way....speaking of Dollar Dog Day. I think the fans of the Phillies, enjoy 40,000 + Phillies franks, at Dollar Dog Day....all made by Hatfield. How many Dollar Dog Days are in one baseball season, maybe 5 or 6? If my math is right, that's about a quarter of a million hot dogs. How many complaints about plastic? Like I said, for this guy in Allentown, it's all about the money!!!!!

I do buy those hotdogs sometimes, luckily i dont eat them very often. i will cut the hotdogs open before i eat them. things like this do happen and its unfortunate but people eat alot of things that get into food that they dont even know about. for example hair, eyelashes, sweat, skin. i dont think the makers should be sued over this, nothing happened to the people. i think hatfield has a pretty good reputation overall. maybe give them a bunch of coupons for a long time.

Something like this just happened to me while I was eating my cereal this morning! As I was chewing my cereal I bit down on something and it really hurt! I spit it out and couldn't believe what I was seeing! I know I won't be eating cereal tomorrow morning!

Ok! Never once was it metion that they wanted to sue. If it was anyone of you guys that found something like that in your hotdog, you to would be gross out and no would not just make another one. Its gross and I think that the company should know about it. How would you feel if it was one your kids that ate it?

A lawsuit was never mentioned by the parties involved. I think they just wanted it to be known what happened so the company and consumers could be aware. What if a child bit into that hot dog and choked...then what? Would it still not be serious or negligent on the manufacturer's part?

Who doesn't feed their kids hot dogs? I am very glad this story came out so that I know not to give my children a product where the company has no concern over the quality. I think it was this person's civic responsibility to let the public know.

I'm sorry, but any of you who would just throw it out and cook another is disgusting.

how come these last 2 people were blind while watching the report, or did not read the story here? it is obvious by the way these people acted, that it was their lawyer who told them to call the news , and this did not happen to a child, or did you not hear the guy say? and i qoute "i bit into the hotdog", he did not say his child! now go back to the top of the page here and read, it asks about suing. would anyone like to place a bet that they sue for millions of dollars? i would bet my buns on it!

I have never Posted a comment on the internet before but this also compelled me to write. Wow what a couple of easy street seekers. Why on earth would you call the news? I found a burnt french fry in the bag of frozen ones i bought the other day. And I Threw it away. People need to learn to do the same, and quit complaining and trying to sue everyone. It's sad that it wasted my time in coming on my tv screen last night !

Actually, the writer of the blog asked the question if it was sue worthy. The people that contacted the news never said anything about suing. I think they really just wanted to make people aware of what happened. It's completely disgusting! No I would not buy anymore of their products and more people should come forward when experiencing something like this without fearing backlash from anonymous internet bloggers.

Ugh, ok! Now when I look for a fast meal to make, the menu will not include hotdogs!

What foods not to eat... Go to my blog! I'll give ya a dish on the foods to stay away from!

First of all, who "fears" anonymous bloggers??? Come on.... the news actually asked us to come on and give our opinion, so we are not doing anything wrong by blogging on the topic. If anonymous blogging really scared anyone off, no one would ever have a story to report on.
Yes, I do feed my kids hot dogs on occasion. They are not a part of their everyday diet, but hot dogs in moderation do not bother me.
Will I feed my kids a hatfield product??? Absolutely!
My brother is a Veternarian, and as a Dr, he actually TOURED the Hatfield plant and it and extremely wonderful reputaion for being strictly regulated and EXTREMELY sanitary. Machinery malfunctions, parts wear, especially rubber, I am sure it is a mishap.... I mean, we have never heard of this before!
I always cut up and inspect my kids food before they eat it anyway, and I will continue to do so because NOTHING is perfect....
