The stop and assault on the men in North Philadelphia the other day was the PPD being the PPD.  I feel it was just escalated because of the death of the officer.  People forget these are police officers, who swore to protect and serve.  Their job is to put their lives on the line.  I feel for his family, but what about the families of the 100 homicide victims before him.  Why is his life more valuable than theirs?  The same thing happened with officer Cassidy's murder.  The police department brings out all stops to catch a person who hurt one of their officers.  The relationship between the community and the police will never be lke it was in the old days.  And the reason is people don't trust cops who have no respect for them

The only people who don't trust cops are those who have something to hide. I'm 58 yrs old, raised 4 children, i have never been chased by the police, and when pulled over for a traffic violation, I pull over immediately, hand over the requested items. I have always been treated respectfully. My children have never been chased by the police either ... but then again ... they are not involved in illegal activity.. If you are being chased it's for a reason, not because you're black, or brown, or green, it's because there is a problem. Trust me, the police chasing you is the last thing they want ...not only because of the danger involved for them personally, but for the paperwork involved. When i was in the service, i was told if I couldn't respect the man, respect the uniform ....same should go with our police force.

First off they weren't running. They stop the vehicle didn't resist but were still brought down with excessive force. I'm a veteran, married with two kids. I have never been in jail, never participated in any criminal conduct. That being said, I get pulled over atleast three times a week. I have an okay vehicle, but I guess that means I brought with drug money. Respect the uniform? It doesn't matter what you are wearing, I'm a grown tax paying man. Give respect to get respect. All of my paperwork for my vehicle and firearms yet I'm treated as a criminal. WHy??? I've never been chased by the police. So I will never trust a police officer

hmmm , pulled over at least 3 times a week? If every black man was pulled over three times a week, we'd need a police force the size of an army. If you're being pulled over 3 times a week it's for a reason, and it's not your color. Check your speed or take that cell phone out of your ear. sheesh

I guess you would know right. I don't drive with a cellphone to my ear. I have a license I need so why would I speed. They aren't just pulling me over just because huh? Why would we need an army? They harass us just fine without it.

tell me, what do these white devils say to you when they pull you over? Apparently you still have your license so they haven't issued tickets ... but wait a minute ... now that i think of it ... the ONE time i was pulled over, it was by a black officer ....omg ... do you think it's a conspiracy? Yeah, that's it ... you're a joke. Trust me, white people could give a S**t what black people do unless it interferes with their lives ...

These white devils and black devils try to treat me like a criminal. Try, and when they realize I'm not an ignorant ni**er, they tell me this is an ordinary traffic stop, I fit the description, blah, blah, blah. Real black people, could care less about a cop, white or black. So did that BLACK officer treat you with respect? Did you have to play twenty-one questions? If you admit it or not philly cops are a joke. And people like you make me ashamed to be from philadelphia. You are 58 yrs old? Your comments doesn't show it. They did all that hunting, searching, putting up roadbloks, for a look-out guy. Look for the murders of normal people like that and maybe people will not hesistate to embrace the police

Monsta265, I agree with some of the things you say and some things I don't. I am the same age as you and I am a white woman. I got pulled over once by a white cop, just because he saw me pull out of a bar, no I was not drinking.....passed the breathilizer, TWICE!!!! Since he didn't believe it I had to walk the line and everything, then he told me he had enough to throw me in the back of his car.....he never did, thankfully a friend of mine was with me (who was extremely intoxicated). I don't know what that cop was about. But we do experience it from our own color too. Not all cops are bad and not all are good. I did know Skerski (as a cop) who was shot and killed. And I will tell you, he was definately a good cop and I am glad the police went nuts to find his killer. A couple months later my cousin was murdered....today it remains unsolved. Am I mad about that - yeah. But I'm not mad they chase after a cop killer so bad......to me it's just a killer and he needs to be caught, I'm not outraged by it. So coming from a family member of one of the 100's murdered before this officer, no the cops didn't treat my cousins life like it was any less valuable than a cops - they followed every lead, it's still not over. It's all about what the media covers in the end. (to me)
Comrades have each others back and cops have each others back. That's the way I look at it.

Yes, the black officer acted as a professional. But don't you think if a police officer wanted to get "blacky" he would issue tickets? After all it would be his word against yours. They see that your credentials are ok, and you're on your way. Again, if you're being pulled over 3 times a week there is something up ... and it's not your color.

To annmarie58, I'm sorry about your cousin and what happened with you is what I go through too often. I get it from black cops and white cops. Not all police are bad but I've ran into a large percentage. I'm upset that the determination to find the killer is not the same. They have to be equal or people will never trust them. I've said it in other post, I don't feel for the officer, I do however feel for their families. The officer chose that profession and knew that they were in harm's way. LJ69 you have your opinion and that's what makes this country great. However, I can guarantee that my color, and my cars are a big part of me being pulled over so frequently. And what is acting BLACKY?

The difference in my cousins killers......and the search.....honestly........it was not televised. Maybe if the media did that for all the murdered people, maybe we would have less cold cases. As well as in this cops case, they knew who the killers were, in my cousins - they know who killed my cousin but they don't have enough evidence to make it stick. So the cops have done their jobs in his case, its our court system that sucks and its not publicized. And as for these cops they do sign up and know they are putting themselves in harms way. Just like you with the army, you know what you signed yourself up for to protect and serve this country. With cops its just a city. And if you lost your life - I don't care, I would still feel for you because you had the guts to fight for us. And absolutley I would feel for your family. We definately could use a few good men.

I agree with you! These police officers are suppose to protect & serve the community but yet there behavior is just as worse as some of the criminals out on the streets! Thats why there are people who don't respect the police and really who can blame them!
