If you signed up for Verizon's triple bundle service and believe you qualify for the free '19 flat screen TV and have not yet received it - check out the following message from Verizon for answers to any questions you might have:

Some questions have come up about Verizon's recent offer of a free HDTV for new customers who subscribed to our Triple Freedom offer - a bundle of FiOS TV Premier, FiOS mid-tier or symmetrical Internet access and Freedom Essentials phone service. This was part of a successful promotion that ended in February 2008. Under the offer, customers who chose all three services with a two year contract would get a free 19" HDTV set. Through December 31, we offered a Sharp LCD HDTV and, due to overwhelming response, introduced a second manufacturer in January. Because of the flood of customers who responded to the offer, and the normal time in processing delivery of TV sets, some customers have expressed frustration that they have experienced delays in receiving their sets.

First, let's set the record straight. If a customer qualifies for a TV set under our recent promotion, they'll get one. We stand behind the offer and are doing a number of things to speed up the process.

Here are some frequent questions (with answers) about this promotion, what it took to qualify and how soon customers should expect their TV set to arrive.

Q. How do I qualify for the free HDTV?

A. To qualify for the free TV offer, customers needed to sign up during the promotional period for the FiOS Triple Freedom bundle with FiOS TV, Internet and Freedom Essentials voice service with a two-year contract and meet other eligibility requirements. For example, the offer could not be combined with other promotions and was only available to customers who were not already subscribed to all three components of the bundle.

Q. My FiOS triple play was installed weeks ago, and I believe I qualified for the free HDTV. What happens next?

A. After the FiOS installation is completed, customers will receive a letter within two to three weeks confirming their eligibility and containing instructions for redeeming their gift of either the free TV or -- if they don't want the TV -- a $200 Best Buy gift card. Customers must then visit the rewards Web site within 45 days of receipt of the letter to select the TV or gift card.

Q. I never received the letter that you're talking about.

A. If you never received a confirmation letter, it's very possible that you did not meet the eligibility requirements for the offer. Make sure you have qualifying FiOS TV, FiOS Internet and Freedom Essentials voice service installed and you signed up for a two-year contract during the promotional period. Also, make sure you haven't received any other discounts or promotions because they will make you ineligible for the free TV. If you still think you're eligible for the offer and haven't received a confirmation letter, please call your local Verizon business office; the phone number is listed on your monthly bill.

Q. I qualified for the offer and selected a TV online. When should I expect to receive my free TV?

A. Delivery times vary according to the gift selected. Customers who selected the free TV will receive it in approximately 6 to 10 weeks from the time they made their gift selection online. For customers who ordered prior to Dec. 31, we expect delivery to take up to 10 weeks from their selection online or it could take up to 15 weeks due to the overwhelming response to the promotion. However, we've recently offered some customers a couple of alternatives if they don't want to wait.

Q. What are the alternatives?

A. Customers who chose the free Sharp 19" LCD HDTV and received a letter from us can now select a Magnavox 19" LCD HDTV instead. This is another great high-definition TV and will arrive in up to four weeks. Or they can choose a $200 Best Buy gift card, which they will receive in two to four weeks.

Q. How do I make these alternative selections?

A. Instructions and deadlines for alternative selections were mailed to eligible customers.

After going through this with my father and myself, I'd like to share what we've learned through the experience.

1. The promotion is handled by a 3rd party. During our run around, we were given a handful of phone numbers to try calling. I decided to look some of them up online and found the name of the company that Verizon is using to run their promotion. Verizon is offering it, but the 3rd party is actually the one verifying information and sending the promotions.

2. There is almost no way to get the 2 year pricing. When signing up online, I was never given the option for 1 year versus 2 year pricing. It was just $99/month for the promotion and that was it. My dad called to sign up, and not being aware of the runaround, just asked for the $99 deal. Instead, he was put on the 1 year pricing which is around $115/month plus costs.

3. Their new billing system is atrocious. That is the nicest thing I can say about it. Their billing changed were instead of being billed on a per plan price, we are now billed on a per service price. I am not 100% sure how it's happening, but the bill is never the same each month. Even though they advertise unlimited calling, and we don't use the ondemand service, the bill still varies each month. Usually by $2 or $3, but it seems if this is happening to a lot of people, they might be making a lot of money this way.

4. It took 1 1/2 months to get the first bill which was our first sign that something was wrong. Because my dad signed up in December, we did not get a bill till the end of January, and thus, were given a horrible run around

If you meet the right product and contract eligibility requirements, you can contact Harte Hanks which is the 3rd party company handling the TV fulfillment and can be reached at 1.866.279.0438

In my opinion, I think it would make sense to pass on the TV and take the $200 for Best Buy to put towards a nice TV. A 19" LCD is very small and useless in a living area. Remember, the 19" is the diagonal measurement from corner to corner so the width is smaller than 19". After some research, it turns out Verizon is giving out the Magnavox 19MF337B. This model has 720p resolution, meaning it cannot display in native 1080 HD formats. Feel free to Google the reviews of it.

I think you are safer being able to shop for what you want, than be stuck with something you'll be sorry for later. If you can still take the cash, I'd jump on it and put it towards a bigger unit with a better name such as Vizio, Panasonic or Sony. Think of the $200 gift card as a 200 dollar off sale on any TV you want.
