As you may have heard the Bush Administration said each and every one of us would now get a nice rebate. If we spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.

If we spend it on gasoline it will all go to the Arabs or VENEZUELA.

If we purchase a computer it will all go to India.

If we purchase fruit and vegetables it will all go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala.

If we purchase a good car it will all go to Japan.

If we purchase useless crap it will all go to Taiwan and none of it will help the American economy.

We need to keep that money here in America, so the only way to keep it here at home is to buy American. But it would seem that prostitutes and beer are about the only businesses still in the US, and even comes well recommended known within the politicians! LOL

Do you know what your doing with your rebate refund?

A deputy was caught by the police department's own surveillance cameras dumping out a paralyzed man from his wheelchair and onto the floor.  Apparently the deputy was trying to determine whether or not he actually was paralyzed or he was faking it, so the deputy claimed...(?) ummm!

The man was arrested on charges from fleeing and attempting to elude a law enforcement officer from an incident that happened back in October.  His records showed that he was cited at that time for blocking an intersection.  The man said when he was taken into a booking room and then told to stand up; the deputy grew agitated when he told her that he couldn’t stand up.  Haven't heard a full report on the complete conversation between the two yet!

Surveillance footage revealed otherwise which clearly showed a Veteran deputy dumping him suddenly out of his wheelchair, even went so far as to searching him while on the floor, rolling him around on the floor, after he was brought in on a warrant from a traffic violation.

The sheriff's office said that they weren't even aware of the incident until the tape was released by the media.  The deputy has been suspended without pay, and a Sergeant and two Corporals are being looked upon for failing to report the incident or act upon it.  They also have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.  None of the supervisors acted upon what they saw or step forward with what happened which makes this of great concern!  The actions are undeniable at every level and could stand in a court of law if and when criminal charges are brought up!

Based on your opinion is a dismissal the appropriate actions to place on just the one deputy or all involved?  Blog it here!!!   How do you  think this should have been handled?

The industry of consumer products that are sold and advertised rake in billions of our dollars, so you can say their wealth was based on our support for their product.  Even if the product isn't really what it advertised, people still buy it to try it!  Here's something I have questioned many times...

With all the fast food services that have grown in every city, it would seem that what they show on their commercials and ads has a picture of their product is by far not what you actually get!  The funny thing is that I see is they falsely advertise showing one thing and making it look good and inviting but gives the supporting consumer another, a difference in size and amount portions from what they advertise.  But people still buy it because of taste.  And they profit off many others like me.

When I see a sub, hamburger, plate of food, store products, etc....I would notice the ads, umm looks good, gotta try it, go out and buy it just to find it isn't what they made it look like advertising but boy it tastes good or it wasn't my thing.  And they profit off many others like me.

When I see something advertised that our home or family could use your going by their word and ads.  You just don't really know till you try it unless someone you trust swears by it!  Amy tests some of those products as well to let you know about it and "If It Works".  Sometimes it doesn't work!   And they profit off many others like me.

If we can't take some responsibilities to our own purchases or concerns then we get what we pay for!  I would bet that even with complaints nothing has shown any kind of change to selling the product they advertise and show!  So how is it right to falsely advertise products without proving what they claim and show?  People will believe anything at least once!   And they profit off many others like me.

Could you be just like me?  Have you run across the same?  If so, then what?  What's your opinion?

The story I'm about to tell you is true but the names of the witnesses are not mentioned to protect the innocent!  The Place: Melbourne, Florida.  The Area: Right in front of a business off a side two lane road in town with little traffic and the parking lot of another business.  The Time: Around lunch time in broad daylight.  The Witnesses: Four people but their names are not used to protect the innocent.  The Crime: Criminal act of an on duty, uniform police officer committing a public serve to prostitution!

An officer in an unmarked car pulled over at the corner of a certain business, which I can not mention, and invited a prostitute into his car at a corner crossroad, giving her the “come here” finger motion and inviting her in the front seat of the car, passenger side, then proceeded to park in an empty parking lot just across the street, along the street in clear vision of this business.  Four people watched as the officer put the prostitute to work.  One guy described it as, First you saw two heads then only one as the prostitute was no longer in site.  It isn’t known if this was in trade for being allowed to work her around the area or was a paid thrill.  As they continued to watch this going on the next thing that happened was the prostitute opened the door and was spitting.  She exited the vehicle; you could even see the officer set his seat back as it looked just like someone fixing his pants.  “I think you have the jest of what went on”!  Could this be business – sheer pleasure – or both?  He then went on his merry way as the prostitute did continuing on down the road!  Four people saw this going on and couldn’t believe it!  It was the talk of the office and prostituting around the area is increasing. They figured if they called the cops, this officer would be alerted and figure out who called on him.  If their boss would have been around, he would have gone and knocked on that officer’s window just to interrupt his pleasure to make a point…but he wasn’t there at the time.  They really had no kind of choice in the matter but to just let it happen.  What choice would they have with a loose – loose situation, just kick back and enjoy the show with you lunch…live entertainment that may threaten you in some way if you speak out!  So, therefore, I speak for them to let people know this can, is, and will happen in an area you wouldn’t expect!!!

Another way of law enforcement trumps!  With this kind of action, just how do they expect us to be able to rely on their full support to serve and protect?  Oh wait….I guess within another means and way of thinking he was in fact serving her with his support and protecting her!!! Hint, hint – wink, wink!!!

Being that I am a supporter for families of fallen officers, DARE, & MADD, this does not reflect or change, I will continue to give my support!  But this is still disturbing to me!  For all I know this officer could be married and have a family…maybe not…only he really knows.

Let’s just go wide with this one because I am leaving this one open for anything!!!  It your seat now!

The Black Panther is a critically endangered representative of Cougar that lives in the low pinelands, palm forests and swamps of southern Florida in the United States. Its current taxonomic status is unresolved.

This population, the only unequivocal Cougar representative in the eastern United States, currently occupies only 5% of its historic range. The number of living panthers is estimated to be between 80 to 100.

Panthers can live up to between 12-15 years in the wild.  Of course we all know that the wildlife is being run out from there natural habitat because of the destruction of their homes to progress man kinds take over.

There have always been stories of these beautiful animals that would stand your hair.  I have even read different versions of sounds they make.  One of the things that I have always been told is when you are walking through the woods alone and you hear a woman scream, don’t look around, don’t just keep walking….RUN, and while your running strip some clothes off of you leaving a trail and keep running till you are completely safe.  I have never heard this scream until last night!

Here's my story........

It was around 1:30 am, I was watching a movie when I heard what sounded like a girl or woman screaming!  I couldn't hear it clearly until I stepped on the back porch and I heard it very clear…it sounded just like a terrified female screaming like bloody murder for help!  So I really thought someone was in need of desperate help and went into action.  The thing I thought was strange was there wasn’t NO vehicle, lights or any other sounds with it of any sort, that it became confusing to understand!  I quickly grabed my phone and called 911 to report what I heard at the same time grabbing my keys, cell phone, and stunner.  I was telling the young lady what I was doing step by step and gave her my cell number.  Hopped in my truck and headed to the back of the property along the road…..no one was even around or on the road!  I continued to slowly travel along the road to look around at the same time still on the phone with 911 until an officer arrived….he did!  We both spot lighted every where along the road…found nothing!  I went back to the house while the officer continued to look around.  Finally he gave up and I figured I would go to the shop and make sure things were OK there.  As I entered the gate shinning the light all around I heard movement but this was coming from the tree beside the building.  I shined the light and saw bright eyes and dark shiny body, in a flash it jumped down from the tree and took off.  I’ll never forget that scream!

That same morning after getting some sleep, I got up and looked around hoping to find some kind of prints.  Well I found them!!!  I was amazed and at the same time felt I was one of the lucky ones that actually can say that I have seen, heard, and experienced one of these amazing and beautiful animals!  It was something I will never forget!  The scream…I still can’t get off my mind!  This was my very first and probably my last experience with a wild panther/jaguar….unless it has decided to make this area it’s home!  These Big Cats need our protection!

Have you ever had a run in with a wild Black Panther/Jaguar?  Would you want to help in preserving and save these beautiful animals from extinction?

If you have Cable or Satellite for your TV channels in which you pay for each and every month, do you know how many of them are included within your packages that are not in English?

With Dish Networks I counted 27 at first but then that number increased as I visited channels that I thought were English but instead were speaking in Spanish on movies that were described in English from the info guide on stations that did not specify the differences (totally misleading).  I speak, understand, and come from an English speaking country….I, by no means speak or understand Spanish/Latin, nor do I care too!  So why force it?

So why am I being forced to pay for channels that are totally useless to me with my hard earned money?

We pay extra for Local channels so why not have that option for those foreign language speaking channels and stations?

I have even thought of disconnecting and cancelling our Satellite all together and go back to using that simple antenna for just the local stations and cutting back our monthly expenses, but then again there is talk that even that will not be a choice or option much longer!

I really hate paying for something that I have no use for or want!!!  And I feel I'm being taken advantage of  when I could have a savings instead of being forced into paying for something I don't want, don't need, can't use, or can't understand.  It would seem they have this all backwards here to me!  Who really benefits from this?

Your Local channels should be included in your packages without any extra charges and foreign channels should be an option just as it is with HBO, Cinimax, Starz, Showtime, Encore, Sports, etc!  We really could use a more sensible break here!

What do you think and how would you feel?  Is this Fair?

DNR’s are not unheard of these days and some people do in fact make this a legal and binding bill of order.  On the medicine wards, you will come across patients who have a "Do-Not-Resuscitate" order on their chart. You will also be in situations where you are asked to discuss with a patient whether they want to or should have resuscitation following a cardiac arrest or life-threatening arrhythmia. Like many other medical decisions, deciding whether or not to resuscitate a patient who suffers a cardiopulmonary arrest involves a careful consideration of the potential likelihood for clinical benefit with the patient's preferences for the intervention and its likely outcome. Decisions to forego cardiac resuscitation are often difficult because of real or perceived differences in these two considerations.

When can CPR be withheld?   Virtually all hospitals have policies which describe circumstances under which CPR can be withheld. Two general situations arise which justify withholding CPR:

When CPR is judged to be of no medical benefit (also known as "medical futility"; see below), and

When the patient with intact decision making capacity (or when lacking such capacity, someone designated to make decisions for them) clearly indicates that he / she does not want CPR, should the need arise.

When is CPR not of benefit?  One approach to defining benefit examines the probability of an intervention leading to a desirable outcome. CPR has been prospectively evaluated in a wide variety of clinical situations. Knowledge of the probability of success with CPR could be used to determine its futility. For instance, CPR has been shown to be have a 0% probability of success in the following clinical circumstances:  Septic shock, Acute stroke, Metastatic cancer, Severe pneumonia, In other clinical situations, survival from CPR is extremely limited:  Hypotension (2% survival), Renal failure (3%), AIDS (2%), Homebound lifestyle (4%), Age greater than 70 (4% survival to discharge from hospital)

Who is the only one (s) that can change this order?  Legal guardian with health care decision-making authority >> Individual given durable power of attorney for health care decisions >> Spouse >> Adult children of patient (all in agreement) >> Parents of patient >> Adult siblings of patient (all in agreement)

When does this become a violation?   A physician is prohibited by the bill from willfully failing to follow the procedures for transferring a patient who possesses DNR identification but whose attending physician is unable or unwilling to follow the do-not-resuscitate protocol for the person. The bill also prohibits anyone who has personal knowledge that another person has revoked a do-not-resuscitate order or personal knowledge that a physician has issued an order that supersedes a previous do-not-resuscitate order from purposely concealing or withholding that information in order to cause the use or withholding of CPR. Violators are guilty of a misdemeanor of the third degree.

This happened to my friend who was married to my Cherokee Sister.  My Sister died 2 ½ years ago from heart failure in her sleep at her happiest moment which is the way most people would prefer to go.  The only closest family left to argue any DNR would be me.  But I was never notified!  Even if I was, I would never go against his decision anyway!

Here’s what happened…..Blaine ~ (Two Snakes) legally had a DNR order done up following his open heart surgery which happened a year after Cindy’s (White Hawk) death!  He suffered a massive heart attack which placed him on the operating table.  While on the table, they made a big mistake and over dosed him causing his heart to stop!  To cover up their mistake they violated his DNR order and resuscitated him.  Now he suffers with heart beating and pounding like crazy often causing him a great deal of pain which I noticed would happen about every ten to fifth teen minutes.  He was really mad that they violated him like that because he doesn’t care to live in such a manner.  The doctor told him when they released him to get his affairs in order which was the reason for my trip up which I had to take.  After he explained to me what happened and knowing and seeing what he now has to go through….He had every right to be upset!  Although he has been given the chance that most do not get, to make sure everything is in order for his death, no one should be placed or forced into a situation of continuous pain and agony!  It hurt to see him suffer all the intense attacks which can not be prevented until his actual death!

What would you do?   Would you argue anyone’s DNR right?   Do you think doctors should be allowed to violate this right by any means they deem necessary?   What do you think about this?

A Christmas Story which I think is important to us all but also has within it the delima questions and possible answers that everyone shares.  Please don't take this the wrong way or be offended for this is not only a Christmas Story to share with you but also a sad and true begining of a story!

....I received a call from my teacher, my friend and brother, who is a Cherokee Medicine Man with bad news.  Apparently his heart is giving out and following a major heart attack he was told there wasn't anything that could be done and he should "Get His Affairs In Order".  He doesn't know exactly how much longer he has left but he has started getting things ready and done before his final rest comes.  His American name Blaine Martin, his Cherokee name Two Snakes.

He was never rich and has had a hard life and hard roads to travel but has made his peace.  He was confused on what to do with all his things he has made with his own two hands for which he uses to trade with.  He had asked me what I thought he should do, the only thing I could reply to him was to make out the biggest Christmas list ever for his last Christmas!  This, he said, shall be done.

I will be traveling up to Tennessee in about two weeks to help him with his things to do and getting his things in order the way he would like it to be (something most of us doesn't get the chance or take the time to do).  I can tell you, I am not looking forward to it but I know it must be done, I don't like it but it must be done, the thought is breaking my heart but it must be done.  So I guess there will be two trips involved here....man that's going to be expensive on gas...but it must be done.   It would be nice to be able to go up there (HOME for me), for a more enjoyable time to spend...but it must be done!

Two Snakes is one of the lucky ones that at least have the time to "Get his Affairs in Order", a feel at ease with the thoughts and feelings of giving, in a way a Santa Claus with all his possessions that he has to give to others.  He is not afraid to die!

The questions I would like to ask you are...

...Are you afraid to die?   Why or why not?

...Do you have preparations ready for your loved ones just in case with your last will, burial plot, means for your bills to be paid, etc...?

...Have you Got Your Affairs in Order?

Natural means to being healed has been pushed aside for so long now that people are ignorant of existence out there for what ales them.  Modern Medicine has blocked, prevented public acknowledgements and developments from the people.

As unbelievable as it seems the key to stopping cancers has been around for over 30 years.  Yet it has been banned, (Blocked), and kept out of your medicine cabinet by the very agency designed to protect your health—the FDA.

In 1966, the senior oncologist at a prominent New York hospital rocked the medical world when he developed a serum the “shrank cancer tumors in 45 minutes”!  90 minutes later they were gone…Headlines hit every major paper around the world.  Scientists and researchers applauded.  Time and again this life saving treatment worked miracles, but the FDA ignored the research and hope he brought and shut him down.

You read that right.  He was not only shut down—but also forced out of the country where others benefited from his discovery.  That was 38 years ago.  How many other treatments have they been allowed to hide?  Just as in the case of Dr. Burton’s miracle serum these too go unmentioned.

Two-Nutrient Cancer Breakthroughs

Decades ago, European research scientist Dr. Johanna Budwig, A six-time Nobel Award nominee, discovered a totally natural formula that not only protects against the development of cancer, but people all over the world who have been diagnosed with incurable cancer and sent home to die have actually benefited from her research—and now lead normal lives.

After 30 years of study Dr. Budwig discovered that the blood of seriously ill cancer patients was deficient in certain substances and nutrients.  Yet healthy blood always contained these ingredients.  It was the lack of these nutrients that allowed cancer cells to grow wild and out of control.

By simply eating a combination of two natural and delicious foods, not only can cancer be prevented—but in case after case it was actually healed!  “Symptoms of cancer, liver dysfunction, and diabetes were completely alleviated.”  Remarkably, what Dr. Budwig discovered was a totally natural way for eradicating cancer.

However, when she went to publish these results so that everyone could benefit—she was blocked by manufacturers with heavy financial stakes!  For over 10 years now her methods have proved effective—yet she is denied publication—blocked by the giants who don’t want you to read her words.

What’s more, the world is full of expert minds like Dr. Budwig who have pursued cancer natural formulas and diets that work for hundreds and thousands of patients.

So there are healthy means at lesser expenses for prevention and healing that the FDA and those who benefit from Modern Medicine does not want you to know about natural means, but leaks do happen!  It’s apparent that the greed of money out weights over the good and greater health of the PEOPLE!

There are real people who were diagnosed with cancer—suffered through harsh conventional treatments—turned their backs on so called modern medicine—only to be miraculously healed by natural means!  There are great medicines practiced within tribal cultures and are also blocked by the FDA but are practiced and shared tightly within the tribes now because of this rejection given by the FDA and blocked publications.

So WHY do you think things are ignored and hidden from people, what do they gain by this?

Pets and some animals actually have some moral and human' thinking.  Actually this is confusing for some people as animals are normally graded as beast' which kills for food and has no or little moral in their thinking. However, as the countries develop and modernize, there seems to be a switch in roles. Animals have showed increased moral in their thinking of behavior while humans on the other hand have their moral values deteriorated.  It has becoming more and more common to hear and see incidents where an animal or pet saved someone's life.

There are so many stories that could be told but may have never been reported or picked up by the media. Imagine the amount of related storied one may or can find in the papers alone. What about those which the press and the media are not aware of?

If your pet has not saved your life before, there is a chance it may in future when you are in danger. Of course, it depends to a certain extend; the way your pet is treated which could also explain why certain pets can love or turn on humans.

There are also Native American tales told throughout the years of wild animals saving children and taking them into their own caring ways.  This is greatly known more among wolves which brought out stories and tales of “Wild Child” living among the animals in the wild wilderness.

Now there are trained rescue dogs and horses that help find people who may have gotten lost, ill, or injured within the forests and wilderness that have saved many human lives.  They are considered as heroes!

With the different types of animals, there have been a number of different types of animals that is known to some as their heroes!  Dogs, Cats, Birds, horses, pigs……not only land animal but marine life (Dolphins ~ Whales) can also be subjected into this category that is rarely if ever mentioned or told about!

I’m sure you have heard of the latest media coverage of a family pet – Kesha, who risked her own life and saved her loving family which in fact cost her life in the process.  They say the greatest sacrifice is given through love and this can be said through animals as well as humans!

Here’s another true story you don’t know!  My better half was living in an old cabin with his two birds (Albino Cockatiels – Charlie & Lady).  It was winter time and the only heat was from a kerosene heater.  While sleeping in a deep sleep, the heater caught fire.  The birds were luckily out of their cage when this happened.  Charlie flew over and CHERPED loudly along with pecking on the chest.  Awakened by the Charlie’s minced efforts of alarming warning and just in the nick of time, ALL were saved except the cabin which burned down to the ground!

Do you have any comments or stories you would like to share of animal Hero’s?  Blog it here!

Being and becoming handicap limits people to certain things that others have advantages over!  There are struggling aspects for the handicap that others seem to overlook and ignore!  I have to admit that I found this out the hard way but also found that there are very few that did show compassion and care while others would be annoyed and bothered!

Although there has been better means for the handicap today, there are still obstacles, struggles, and limitations that the handicap must endure!  For example:  I broke my foot and became handicapped, limiting me to certain things from what I have become a custom to with my everyday way of life!  Riding my motorcycle, better performance with my business for my customers, cooking, cleaning, providing better for my family, getting around, going up and down stairs, and SHOPPING!

Having to shop at the grocery store was in fact a challenge!  I have never had the need to use one of those motorized shopping carts to do my shopping (which started out to be fun riding by the way), but I had too!  I shop at Wal-Mart for the savings and low prices, but I am use to filling up my cart to the max to lessen the trips because I really hate to shop but it has to be done!  Those motorized shopping carts are limited to what you can fit, no problem, I would just cut back to the most important needs.  I also figured out that I should bring someone with me to push the bigger cart if need be, sometimes that could be a problem.

Anyway, as I was driving around gathering what I really needed, I found myself in awkward situations!  I couldn’t reach some of the products, no one around to help; I had to painfully try my best to get it off the shelf.  I even struggled getting down some of the isles that were crowded with other shoppers who became annoyed with ME as I would have to sit there until I had room to get through or around!  There were people who would even hit you with their carts getting around you without saying sorry!  Out of the whole store there were TWO people that actually helped me with a few difficulties.  Everyone else showed annoyed disrespect like I was a nuisance to them!  I got first hand of what it can be being handicapped and the way others will in fact treat you!

One thing that was brought to my attention by the son of another elderly man also in a motorized cart was as I was passing by them he stopped me and asked if my horn worked on my diving cart, (I didn’t even know I had one), he pointed it out to me and tried it, sure enough it didn’t work, nor did it work on his father’s cart!  My first thought was why, then I figured well maybe it was disconnected because it would be annoying for others who shop or complaints made by those others who didn’t like that horn being blown at them as they blocked the right-a-way for some stupid reason, (talking on the phone, chatting it up with someone else they ran into, leaving their cart in the middle of the isle and walk away), who really knows but it did place question within my mind over that one!

I must say though that it was the most difficult time I have ever had shopping!  It has also been a complete struggle keeping up with my own business and my regular household duties as well!  I have never felt so helpless, never felt so much of being such an annoying nuisance, never felt so limited, never felt so much worthlessness until now.

What I can do and say is this; the next time you ever run across someone who is handicapped and limited, trying to do things by themselves, try and show compassion and respect for the handicap, don’t treat them like an annoying nuisance!  Show some humanity and give support to those who need it!  Treat the handicap & others as you would expect and want to be treated yourself!  Show more support to the handicap!

Mater's Read and Research (Public Accessible Already Proven and Documented Facts Looked up and Researched without Fundings, Support, or Sponsor)

The risk factors and contributory causes of obesity - a disease of excess body fat characterized by a body mass index of 30+ - include a range of well-documented genetic and environmental factors. But the relative effect of these causes on the development of Obesity remains unclear. Before examining possible causes, note that obesity, especially severe clinical obesity like morbid or malignant obesity, carries greater risks of morbidity and premature mortality than simple overweight.

Obesity can be inherited; the fact that obesity has increased so much in the last few decades appears to discount genetics as a major main cause. Also, the fact that each succeeding generation is heavier than the last indicates that changes in our environment are playing the key role.

Obesity tends to run in families, suggesting a genetic link. Yet families also share common dietary, physical exercise, attitude and lifestyle habits that may also contribute to obesity. Separating these from purely genetic factors is not an easy statistical or diagnostic task.

Eating too many calories for our energy needs must be a major candidate for the main cause of the modern obesity epidemic.  The type of food eaten may also play an important role in the rise of obesity. Researchers continue to discover more metabolic and digestive disorders resulting from over consumption of trans-fats and refined white flour carbohydrates, combined with low fiber intake. These eating patterns are known to interfere with food and energy metabolism in the body, and cause excessive fat storage. Associated health disorders include insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes as well as obesity. Incidence of these "modern" diseases is increasing worldwide.

People who eat more calories need to burn more calories, otherwise their calorie surplus is stored as fat. For example, if we eat 100 more food calories a day than we burn, we gain about 1 pound in a month. That’s about 10 pounds in a year. Over two decades this energy surplus causes a weight gain of 200 pounds!

Assessing the contribution of lack of exercise to obesity is hampered by lack of research. According to existing surveys, only 20 percent of our population is frequent exercisers. In addition, only a small minority of children (1 in 5) regularly participate in after-school sports or extra-curricular physical activity. Since 1990, among adults there has been a per capita decline of 15 percent in frequent exercise activity (100+ days per year in any one activity). Among teenagers and adolescents aged 12-17, the plunge is 41 percent.

Parental behavioral patterns concerning shopping, cooking, eating and exercise have an important influence on a child's energy balance and ultimately their weight. Thus family diet and lifestyle are important contributory causes to modern child obesity, especially at a time of rising affluence. Since obese children and adolescents frequently grow up to become obese adults, it's clear that family influence also extends to adult obesity. (Imagine That)!

Genes affect a number of weight-related processes in the body, such as metabolic rate, blood glucose metabolism, fat-storage, hormones, to name but a few. Also, some studies of adopted children indicate that adopted children tend to develop weight problems similar to their biological, rather than adoptive, parents. In addition, infants born to overweight mothers have been found to be less active and to gain more weight by the age of three months when compared with infants of normal weight mothers, suggesting a possible inborn drive to conserve energy. Research has also shown that normal-weight children of obese parents may have a lower metabolic rate than normal-weight children of non-obese parents, which can lead to weight problems in adulthood. All of this suggests that a predisposition to obesity can be inherited.

However, the fact that obesity has increased so much in the last few decades appears to discount genetics as the main cause.

Health risks are linked to obesity!  The more obese a person is, the more likely he or she is to develop health problems. Mild obesity involving a body mass index (BMI) of 30+, is less dangerous to health than morbid obesity (BMI 40+) or malignant obesity (BMI 50+). For example, someone who is 40 percent overweight is twice as likely to die prematurely as an average-weight person. This effect is seen after 10 to 30 years of being obese.

The risk of heart attack, congestive heart failure, sudden cardiac death, angina or chest pain is increased in persons who are overweight or obese. High blood pressure is twice as common in adults who are obese than in those who are at a healthy weight. Obesity is associated with high triglycerides and decreased HDL cholesterol.

All the Risks involved are:

Premature Death >> Heart Disease >> Stroke >> Type 2 Diabetes >> Cancers >> Fatty Liver Disease >> Chronic Venous Insufficiency >> Gallbladder Disease >> Breathing Problems >> Deep Vein Thrombosis & Pulmonary Embolism >> Arthritis >> Even Birth Defects

Obesity while pregnant is associated with a higher risk of death in both the baby and the mother. It also raises the risk of high blood pressure in the Mom, by 10 times. Obesity during pregnancy is also associated with an increased risk of birth defects, such as spinal bifida. Obesity-related health problems occurring after childbirth include higher risk of wound and Endometrial infection, Endometritis and urinary tract infection.

The good news is that losing a small amount of weight can reduce your chances of developing heart disease or a stroke. Reducing your weight by 10 percent can decrease your chance of developing heart disease by improving how your heart works, blood pressure, and levels of blood cholesterol and triglycerides. Studies show that you can improve your health by losing as little as 10 to 20 pounds.

I read this very disturbing report and would like to know what you think about this one!

**************************

Clothing retailer GAP Inc. has fired an Indian company accused of using child labor to make clothes, the company's president said.  It was deeply disturbing to all after watching a video of children at work in a New Delhi, India, sweatshop. President Marka Hansen felt violated and very upset and angry with their vendor and the subcontractor who made this very, very, very unwise decision.  Hansen blamed the alleged abuse on an unauthorized subcontractor for one of its Indian vendors and said the subcontractor's relationship with the GAP had been "terminated."   She said the garments allegedly produced by the children represented a small portion of a single order placed with the vendor and that the clothes would not be sold in stores. "We strictly prohibit the use of child labor," Hansen said in a statement."  GAP has a history of addressing challenges like this head-on, and their approach to this situation will be no exception.

The Observer spoke to children as young as 10 who said they were working 16 hours a day for no pay. The paper described the workplace as a "derelict industrial unit" where the hallways were flowing with excrement from a flooded toilet.

One 10-year-old boy told the paper he was sold to the company by his parents, “I was bought from my parents' village in [the northern state of] Bihar and taken to New Delhi by train."  The Observer quoted the boy as saying. "The men came looking for us in July. They had loudspeakers in the back of a car and told my parents that, if they sent me to work in the city, they won't have to work in the farms. My father was paid a fee for me, and I was brought down with 40 other children."

Another boy, 12, said he worked from dawn until 1 a.m. and was so tired he felt sick, according to the paper. But if any of the children cried, he told The Observer they would be hit with a rubber pipe or punished with an oily cloth stuffed in their mouths. The children were producing hand-stitched blouses for the Christmas market in the United States and Europe at GAP Kids stores, according to the newspaper. The blouses were to carry a price of about $40, The Observer reported.

The GAP faced criticism for similar practices in 2000, when a BBC documentary uncovered young girls producing GAP products at a Cambodian factory. But since then, Hansen said, the company has developed comprehensive policies to prevent abuse and protect workers' rights. Hansen said violations of those policies are now "extremely rare."

She said she does not support closing any factories in India in response to the allegations because it would deprive those working in proper conditions of their income.

The GAP also operates Banana Republic and Old Navy stores. It has 3,100 stores around the world.
