Because inquiring minds are funny...

I am not a fan of stories that run in such "reputable" chronicles as "The National Enquirer" or other birdcage-liner worthy publications (NYT?). "My Baby's Father is an Alien" or "Monster Discovered In Chicago Zoo" (both headlines are presumed fictitious, but might be actual headlines for "The Enquirer") are geared towards the gullible, and our country is full of such consumers. Just look at Rosie O'Donnell...

However, as with any foundational newsprint, there is an obligation for reporters, even those representing questionable publications, to have at least some background in real journalism - and presumably the ability to actually report real news. No matter how many intervening years pass, if someone went to college majoring in journalism I would bet they remember how to report.

Which is why I found this story peculiar. We already know that former NC Senator John Edwards was caught running away from reporters after an early morning liason with his former videographer (and new mother) Rielle Hunter (see below links). Why is the media not reporting this? Presumably "The National Enquirer" has a reputation that precedes it, as noted above. However, Edwards has never released any credible cover story to rehabilitate his actions of that night, and therefore it seems obvious that either Edwards was visiting his child, or he has a "baby" fetish.

Why are the media ignoring this and this? Hmmm...

You stated that we know he was caught running from reporters. Do we really know this is true? Don't you find it strange that The National Enquirer new ahead of time about this "rendezvous", but haven't produced any pictures? These are the same people that get pictures of alien autopsies, bigfoot, and goatboy.

Just to clarify, I know the "Enquirer" record. I painstakingly documented the record of "Alien Babies" and other fluff (LOL). The question is simple: Is Edwards a philanderer? His wife is not well, you know...

I often don't say anything about stuff that didn't happen to me.

It appears this story is just not credible. Like I said, the reporters were waiting, watching, and chasing him, but no pictures? Sorry, until this rag produces some proof, I just don't buy their account of the "truth".

Remember, The National Enquirer has been sued and lost many cases involving their stories.

The security guard that came to the assistance of Senator Edwards was interviewed by Fox News and confirmed that Senator Edwards was at the hotel. The Fox News report can be seen on Youtube.com.

It's got to make some Democrats feel like they've dodge a bullet when you consider this man was running in the early primaries and up until this report, was on the list for VP. What I wonder, thinking back to the Clintonistas and their slash and burn style of innuendo, is who leaked this to the press?

So here we have another typical politician possibly caught with one or all of the following:

- pants down
- hands in some lobby's pocket
- pontificating with no expertise
- turning a deaf ear toward constituents
- pervasive loss of moral compass.

I am seriously considering voting against ___ALL___ incumbents in the forthcoming election, even those whose political slant I might agree with. These folks have done nothing for me. They've cultivated and encouraged an environment that would have our founding fathers turning in their respective graves.

Ivy, you can also find a bunch of characters that have seen bigfoot, too. If Edwards were in the hotel with a bunch of N.E. reporters chasing him, don't you think more than one person might have seen him?

Just a couple of questions in regards to the new "damning" picture.

1) Why is this picture so blurry? It seems only bigfoot and Edwards are the only two things on earth that can't be shot in focus.

2) Are there any pictures of Edwards with his "mistress"? Or running down the hall from the "reporters"?

I still think this is bogus. Sorry, the N.E. has a reputation and they have to do a lot better to prove something to me.

UPDATE: Fox News has independently confirmed the NATIONAL ENQUIRER'S exclusive report about John Edwards' late-night visit to the Beverly Hilton hotel earlier this week.

The ENQUIRER reported that Edwards arrived late Monday and was confronted by our reporters while trying to leave via the basement at 2:40 a.m. Tuesday. His mistress Rielle Hunter and her baby had checked into the hotel and Edwards was secretly visiting them.

Now Fox News has confirmed with a hotel security guard that Edwards was at the hotel and confronted by our reporters.

Fox says that Edwards asked the guard what our reporters were saying about him.

The guard told them that Edwards' "face just went totally white" when the guard told him our reporters were asking questions about Rielle Hunter.

Fox also confirmed our information that Edwards was not a registered guest at the hotel and that security escorted him out after our reporters' attempt to question him.

Everyone knows that Edwards is a sleeze - I mean he channelled dead babies in court to win millions for himself (and a little bit for parents of kids with cerebal palsy). The media has a blackout on this story because Edwards (hilariously) has the highest 'positive' ratings of any potential Obama running mate according to polls.

Berry, I have made the determination that if someone is seeking office, they have automatically proven themselves unqualified for the job.

CB, I know how it feels when someone you respect is proven to be a philanderer. I never would have guessed former Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham (who is now serving several years in prison) was taking paid "opportunities" presented by his favorite Beltway bandits. "Duke" was a Vietnam ace - a war hero. He had my respect until corruption overtook him.

TI, when Edwards was in the Senate, and especially when he became the VP nominee in 2004, I saw him as a snake-oil salesman. My opinion of him only went downhill from there...

Marks, I really don't care for Edwards, and it could be true. But my source of information has to be better than the National Enquirer. And Fox confirmed the story because of one security guard? Who is this security guard, is he a reliable source? Please Fox answer these questions, enquiry minds want to know.

I understand, CB. I am well aware of the NE track record. I just won't dismiss this out of hand as you apparently have. There is a clear and damning trail of circumstantial evidence, and if it smells bad it probably is.

How quick was his trusted aide to come out and say it was his child? Faster than any settlement Edwards ever obtained, that is for certain...
