Hmmmm the dropping of the 18.4 cent gas tax for summer will make almost NO impact on our pocketbooks (and I have a lovely pocketbook that matches my heels by the way!). The average driver will save 30 dollars--FOR THE WHOLE SUMMER.

If it didn't do anything, that would be one thing but the truth is that by dropping the tax on gas at the pump we face the likely prospect that demand rises with the apparent or perceived "lower" cost of fuel and the corresponding price rises will be permanent.

Plus, (or perhaps it should be first of all) there is no guarantee that the oil companies will pass along the corresponding savings to us. They don't have to by law. In fact, they will likely hang on to a bunch of that money. Why not?? That's Econ 101.

It's a miserable idea and President Bush supports it. I don't blame the President. After all he's a lame duck president who is managing an economy that has been run into the side of a mountain and there's no prospect for good news. So this LOOKS like it provides relief for consumers but as I just mentioned, IT DOES NOT.

Hilary is on board because she's fighting for her political life and wants to throw the crowd something to chomp on.

Well, at least we don't need the money as a country. I mean it's not like we are in debt or are trying to finance a war that we cannot pay for..oh wait...Yah I hate it too, but we need those tax dollars.

What do you think??

For what? The govenment (particularly the STATE!!!) already has taken a HUGE CHUNK of my tax dollars this past April 15th! Besides that, gas prices are gonna go WAAAAY up this year and to tack on this tax too??? I don't see where that extra tax is gonna go anyway? Unless I know where that extra tax dollars is gonna go towards, I don't see the point of having summer gas taxes?

I, for one, will be VERY GLAD when Bush is GONE!!! He's done nothing but screw up the economy and ruined world relationships. And we're financing a war that we already lost!!! I just don't want my tax dollars going towards a war that shouldn't have happened in the first place!

I would gladly pay more taxes if I have reasonable assurances that my money is going towards the teachers of our schools! :)

Markie Baby, I said it once and I'll keep saying it. Time that FOX news people and other media news outlets take a lead and help bring a third party to the public awareness. Until you do, you will have the same crap and it will only get much worse as the WTO Corporate Communists only want slave labor and no more America or its middle class. Since our politician's don't care and are throwing America and its people away because they are corrupted by globalist monies, nothing will get done. You need a third party to come in and fix things via their mandate. Now with that said, scope out the "Constitution Party" through Google. If you guys in the news media like Bob Tarlau and others who are staying mum don't like where your lives and ours are going, then do something about it. You can, but I suspect the news media will not, because they are a part of the very same government that is throwing them down the tubes and this country.

Lower prices so that they will be permanent huh? So when all the Republicans are dead they will still be talking to us from the grave. Still shoving it in all Americans assesss in the form of a nozel. I'd rather be raped by Richard Simmons.

I think this is another conspiracy. Just like getting us into this war. I believe that Cheney had all his private contractor partners lined up likes ducks in a row prior to the war.

All they needed was G.B to give a war speech and pull the metaphorical trigger. They all knew that the bullet could not be recalled and that they would get rich. At the expense of every American...I believe that the Bush Administration is evil...Gump says, "evil is as evil does." And G.W. has proved it more than once.

Once in office, I would like to see the Democrats (doesn't matter who) at this point, do something substantive like cast some spells, go on a witch hunt, and do a deep sea fishing expedition on Cheney's asss with an inflatable probe. Watch him get indicted, and sent to the same prison as that other BLEEP Jack Abramoff.

George Bush should be made to hitchhike back to Texas on pedophile hwy.

Everyone:

There is something far more sinister going on, and the high cost of gasoline is the bait that is being put in front of us. You're all aware of the planned merger of Mexico, The United States, and Canada to form the North American Union, from all the blogs that have been written...and by the way, it's no joke! I've gotten word that stage 2 is set to launch in 2010: The Amero! Yes, kiss your dollars and pesos goodbye...all 3 currencies will be of the same value (Canadian Dollars, U.S. Dollars, and the Peso will be replaced with the Amero). And the ultra high gas prices is part of the bait and switch tactic being used on all of us here in the U.S., Mexico and Canada! By the way, there are some sources which are saying that there is a bountiful supply of gasoline...go to Newsmax.com and see it for yourself guys! Bush and Cheney are not the culprits, though the media is portraying them as the villains...I've read some of the reports from Newsmax which point to Pelosi and her cohorts in the Democratic Party. And let's not forget the time when the Democrats got recorded in a conversation with former Governor Gray Davis, plotting something to force us to accept a bad deal in the budget (and they didn't realize they were being taped...remember when that leaked out to us in the public? There are some very naughty deals going on, with gas being used to bait us!

I think it's a great idea. Even if it's $30 or less. So what? It's money in your pocket and nobody else's. And there are other people who probably spend a ton of gas and that could give them more savings, that they could put back into the economy by buying things, which would help everyone.

McCain came up with the idea first, Hillary is behind it, and so is Bush. Where is Obama?

Obama is out shopping for a muzzle to put on his "Unkle Jerry".

Didn't Obama vote for that in Illinois some 2 years ago and then oil companies just raised their prices taking the savings out of the consumers' pockets? That's why he said he was not going to fall for the old "banana in the tailpipe" again (paraphrasing) yet McCain and Clinton still use it because most people are too lazy to find out for themselves, that it's just political flim flam.
