I don't get it...is this election really getting hijacked once again by someone's (in this case Obama's) remark about something that doesn't really have to do with soaring fuel prices, foreign policy that has lost it's way and a disintegrating economy?

It must be easier to focus once again on whether or not a candidate "shares our values" based on one comment, rather than whether or not a candidate has a notion about how to get us out of this colossal jam we find ourselves in.

Of course it's important to find a candidate that shares your values, but haven't these people all survived the rigorous tests of patriotism and basic values to get this far. Hey, they all share our values.

Get your checklist out and check off God and country. Now let's turn the attention elsewhere. We have to start focusing on things that are a bit deeper than the little sound bites that the cable networks can hang a whole day's programming on.

We are a better electorate than that and we can do better than to focus on whether or not someone's just like us. You know, a bible reading, tequila drinkin', target shooter who on the weekends will have time to concentrate on the considerable problems of this country.

Mark,

Don't forget NASCAR watching, beer drinking, and illegal immigrant hating. On FOX's site the election is only about sound bites and super delegates, check out Schwada's blog, and how much do YOU hate illegal immigrants. I am concerned about the Iraq War, the galactic size deficit, the greatest economic downturn this country has seen since the Great Depression, the MidEast conflict, Iran's nuclear ambitions, the price of gas, the ongoing food riots in countries around the world, and yes, illegal immigration. Just to name a few. I wish others on FOX's site would take their blinders off and see the big picture.

Mark,

Again, I must say: very interesting guy! And yes, we will see a diversity of views on this blog, from the comical such as chimpchan9001 to the serious drum beatings. Some things that I've observed in this election campaign trail of disasters are this: 1) The Republicans are not happy with an extremely liberal Republican John McCain being the nominee, 2) The Democrats have gotten nowhere with the fierce in-fighting mud flinging campaigns between them, 3) There's a big fear in both parties that the other party is going to win, 4) Both Democrats and Republicans are getting extremely fed up with the monkey business going on, and 5) It appears that there isn't going to be a real winner in November...only the fittest survivor in the election. Does anyone have a fog machine to rent to the winning party in November, whoever it is? That winning party is going to need it badly!

By the way, I have a wacky soundbite of McCain that no one else has...it came from an interview I engineered many years ago for a radio talk show...it just might appear mysteriously on YouTube...and who knows what blogger is going to actually upload it? It is very funny too!

Mark Thompson. Listen to Dr. Michael Savage on talk radio. BTW, Savage did criticize FOX Political Pundits for the Texas Issue with the kids. Savage is one of the very few with John and Ken and Al Rantel but to name a few, who knows what is going on. Listen to him for a week then you will have the bigger picture. Perhaps your buddy Mr. Bob Tarlau will listen too. Too bad that Mr. Murdoch isn't looking to mend the broken fences with Savage, but I guess the sparks flying makes it even better to hear and watch what unfolds between them.

Democrats dont care about God and Guns. So Obama will win with the Democrats. His problems will start when McCain tries to use this against him.

I wonder who will win if it's Obama against McCain...what tricks will each candidate pull out of the campaign hats?

Mark, are you ready to dedicate a weather dance to the political winner? (And you got to get Maria to do the dance with you...I think she owes you one!)

Even though it might be a political ploy, I really like the fact that McCain doesn't want to play into the campaign mud slinging that Clinton and Obama are. As far as Clinton and Obama... I look at their records and statements and really can't trust that they would really represent my, our best interests.

McCain my have once been in the lime light for the Keating five scandal, however he was found only to be guilty of a lack of good judgement and nothing more. By the way there were four other politicians, all democrats.

Obama has a history with a Chicago slum lord and Clinton sat on the board of Walmart as a corporate lawyer besides her involvement in the Whitewater property scandal.

No Mark, these candidates do not hold the same values that I hold and further more, they are and should be held to a higher standard since they chose the life of a public servant. I think that they lost the definition of what a public servant is.

Oh yes, I forgot to say one thing: Barry, Jerry, and old hag Hillary need to be Cained by Johnny Mac! May "Johnny Mac" be the fittest survivor of the ugly campaigns ahead.

the name respectively is sebar not saber, your typo, and no hard feelings. As far as Savage goes, in 8 and 3/34 years of his predictions, I'd say is over 95% accurate. What he predicted would happen, happened and pretty damned close to what he said would happen. I do not know of any other talk show host who has said it as it has unfolded, do you? Plus he offers legitimate solutions to what he is saying.

Why do you Libs hate on these people??? Just because their skin color is white and they look a little odd??? Racist haters!!! Persecuting, intimidating, and seperating families. No wonder they're afraid to come out. Is it any wonder HATE CRIMES are on the rise against white, peaceful, hard=working religious people?

Thompson,

I really am beginning to understand.... folks don't know how to judge a man like Senator Obama. They're afraid to take him at face value cause most don't have any point of reference.

Deep down folks are asking themselves,
"Wouldn't a mixed race man like Obama have a deep seated hatred for white Americans?" Then you add to that his questionable involvement with the black church militant and some folks wonder who's side the mans on. I understand completely.

The problem is these same folks are the ones who believe in "sides" in the first place. They don't look at Americans as just Americans. Seems to me that many in the news media are trying not to offend these poor backwards "side" type folks.

Me the only "side" I like is a good side of beef... but Lord knows I need to eat more fruits and vegetables.

I understand Barack Obama very well. He's not about being black or white or brown or yellow or red, etc....Obama is a Far-Left, New Direction Democrat, "hooked up" into the Chicago Democratic Party political machine. Now I ask you, is there anything else I need to know??? ha ha ha

lets see Obama married a woman who hated America until she could get something out of it ..he has a pastor who is a racist..called his own white grandmother a typical white person yet she was the one who raised him when the black father left as usual ..has friends who were in the weathermen a radical anti government organization and the guy refuses to wear a us flag pin on his lapel....so tell me statueman wheres the beef? ...all I see is a chicken
