Most of us have heard about the recent race for development on the Moon by various countries, such as Russia, China and of course the United States of America.

These countries plan to develop a station on the Moon in the near future to be occupied by man for different reasons such as further research of the Moon and eventually mining purposes among other plans even as far as possible commercialization!

I am sure NASA knows what they are getting into, and I think it may be a good idea as long as we are careful in what we do, and also that all the countries/ space programs involved keep in communication of their activities which I am sure will happen.

I do have a concern, and that would be the weather on the Moon. First you have very drastic temperature changes, zero gravity, you have rocks/ meteors constantly falling from the sky whether they are large, are even the size of a pellet as the Moon has no atmosphere so nothing burns up as it approaches the Moons surface and these falling rocks can damage the astronaut suits or even kill them without any notice and damage equipment and the "station", then you also have to be concerned about the "Moon Dust" on the surface which can be sandy or rocky and the finer particles are mostly glassy sharp grains and can be very dangerous whether it's tearing the space suit, damaging the equipment, or also can be deadly if the astronaut breaths these grains of sand / dust particals into their lungs. Who knows what other obstacles they may run into as well.

What do you think about us planning to build a permanent base on the Moon?? Is it worth all the money we are going to end up putting into it over the years, and what do you think we will get out of it if anything??

Also do you think given the extreme weather conditions on the Moon is it worth risking the astronauts and our very pricey equipment??

It's a interesting thought thinking of man living on the moon, however I am not so sure it's going to be such a good idea... and seems like it's going to be very expensive given the conditions they will have to deal with on the Moon.

I guess it's worth a try?? What is your opinion and thoughts?

It would be a place for the elite of the world to escape if we have a pandemic, nuclear war, or any other threat to mankind. And it will be paid for by the taxpayers who will be left behind. Isn't that a smart thing to do?

Yes I am sure only the extreme elite will only be able to afford to go to the moon if they comercialize it.
I know that people would think it would be cool to go to the Moon, however I really don't think most people know what it's really going to be like on the surface, it may look calm from earth, but it is far from being a calm place with rocks big and small always falling, it would be kind of like earth having hail falling all the time. The Moon Dust would not be fun to deal with either, it's 10x worse than dealing with mud on earth.
The only way I would ever want to go to the moon is if something bad happened here on earth, but still if you think about it would it really be much better on the Moon, and you would not be able to survive very long either.

I would like them to do more research though, it would be nice for them to finally be able to prove the current theory on where the Moon came from, which scientist best guess right now is that about 4 billion years ago when Earth was newly formed a large planet sized rock slammed into earth and a little more than half of that rock formed into the Moon when it flew back into space... not sure if that is really what happened however it would be nice to finally have some proof on where it came from.

That would seem cool, but I mean they need to make sure that they can do it before they decide to do it. I wanna live on the moon. lol, but it moon looks so nice. It doesn't seem like it'd be a bad place to go, but with what you said is True. That'd cost so much money to build on the mood. Well if we can Afford it and it goes well, then I am up for it. I just hope it all goes well!

I made errors. I mean Moon not mood. I typed too fast before checking it, but if the United States decide to go, then we'll go :) I want to see the Moon. That would be so much fun!

If I did go to the moon the one thing I would look forward to the most would be standing (trying to al least without gravity lol) and looking at our planet earth... that to me would be the best experience you could ask for, I think I would just stare at it for hours!

I agree. You usually see the Moon from a distance, but being on the Moon looking at Earth would be a Great moment. I want to see Earth from somewhere else other then a Map.

Yes I just think it would be the coolest thing to look at earth from space, such as on the moon... I don't think it would be as special looking at it from a ship verse on a surface becuase on the surface you pretty much have that panoramic veiw.

i don't even like wearing ties because they are too constricting. i would not be comfortable in a moon suit 24/7. this is necessary to keep your body from vaporizing as there is not enough gravity / atmosphere to hold all our little cells and atoms together.

Wow, I really never thought about it. Now reading this blog I can say that it is a facinating prospect. I myself though will keep both my feet on the ground until which time I put on a set of angel wings and fly passed the moon and stars and universe, and then I will take a good look at earth from the sky.
