What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review?  What if Barack Obama finished fifth from the bottom of his graduating class?

What if McCain were still married to the first woman he said "I do" to?  What if Obama were the candidate who left his first wife after she no longer measured up to his standards?

What if Michelle Obama were a wife who not only became addicted to pain killers, but acquired them illegally through her charitable organization?  What if Cindy McCain graduated from Harvard Law

What if Obama were a member of the "Keating 5" (The Savings & Loan Banks demise)?  What if McCain was a charismatic, eloquent speaker?

If these questions reflected reality, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are?

I also find it interesting that everyone has "glossed over"  Sarah Palin and her daughter's pregnancy.  I'm not held to the "let's not touch it" edict of Barack Obama or John McCain, so here goes.

This woman wants to legislate that the only sex education that may be taught in schools is abstinence.  Clearly that didnt work in her own household.  Not only was her daughter having pre-marital sex, she was having unprotected sex, thereby making her susceptible to not only the pregnancy that she got, but disease as well.  Someone didnt (or apparently was not clear if they did) talk about the consequences of unprotected pre-marital sex in the Palin household, and look what they got.

She wants to legislate the overturning of Roe v Wade.  Religious attitudes aside, I have my own feelings about abortion, but I would not pre-suppose to tell another woman what is best for her, and no other woman, or man, should.

Lipstick on a pig?  Barack Obama wasnt even talking about anything that day that would have been remotely attributed to a comment about Sarah Palin.  John McCain, George Bush, Bill Clinton and others have used that phrase countless times in the same context.  Lets stop with the smoke and mirrors.

It is expected that the usual suspects will use this blog to lodge personal attacks, stereotypical references to one race over another, descent into the use of improper grammar while posting a response and calling it Ebonics (of which there is no such thing, its all improper grammar) designed to attempt to get a rise out of someone who thinks they are offending , etc.  I'm telling you out front that I am ignoring those comments completely.  Anyone posting who wants to have a reasonable discussion about the blog is more than welcome.

Okay, finally a woman after my own heart, as I know you and have dealt with you a great deal in the past, it is great to see you back. Now on to the subject at hand, when Sarah Palin came on the scene promoting her self-interest motherhood I immediately thought of you when I responded to a post stating that many women on this board could be in her shoes. We thank you for allowing my comments to come to light, as I nominate you for the NEXT VP OF THE GOP as this blog should be your acceptance speech and I am not joking. Many are telling me that this woman is the best the GOP party has, well it this is their best, then I would hate to see their worst. Anyway, can you please tell me why this woman has generated so much based on gender but if a man was to say that it is sexist at best. How can we women not see that this one woman is sitting us back the 88 years it took us to go forward. She is constantly speaking of her family then says her family is off limits, hell, I wish she would make her mind, neither she nor the GOP can have it both ways.

Frankly, I'm not interested in the soap operas. I'm interested in the candidate's voting record. That's how I base my vote because my vote is too precious to waste on who's has the cutest family, who has the best looking hair, etc.

What has been frustrating about this election cycle is that the DemoRepos are more interested in promoting and perpetuating "fluff" than they are talking about the issues I think are important. For instance, I have heard more about the candidate's families than I have about what they plan to do about illegal immigration problem facing our country.

But then, perhaps, they're only focusing on the fluff because they have no real solutions to offer? You have to admit...that's a great smokescreen.

CC: i beg to differ on at least one of your points. the democrats have no more ignored the issues than the republicans have (let me know if i missed the cutesy -demorepos- meaning both parties, i considered that but wasnt sure). the entire last two weeks have been full of fluff for the republicans and their attempts to steer clear of the issues by accusing obama's camp of trying to slam palin when he used a common analogy i.e, lipstick on a pig, and there is no way that they didnt know EXACTLY what he meant. especially since he wasnt even discussing a topic that could be remotely associated with her when he made the analogy.

for that matter, name a couple of SOLUTIONS that the mccain camp has offered that arent the same old shyt that we have been dealing with for the last eight years? im not better off now than i was 8 years ago, are you?

i must admit though, i find the SILENCE from some others deafening. funny how some will not offer a response unless they can find some way to pick it apart with innuendo.

i am also not interested in the soaps, real or imagined. i am voting my purse strings, and the republicans, adding a woman or not, havent shown me where they would change anything for the better. i cannot imagine what a man who has lobbyists as most of his upper campaign staff is going to do to change my circumstances as a consumer, homeowner, bank customer, etc. and adding a female who wants to set other females back a few generations wont do it for me either. especially when said female cant make the things that she wants to legislate fly in her own BLEEP

house (anyone seen the pictures of this same daughter DRUNK and holding up a great big liquor bottle?). she doesnt speak for me. i am a working mother, a single one at that, after 13 years of marriage. i dont have any daughters, but i also dont have any sons who have impregnated anyone at the ages of 19,19, and 23. my children understood perfectly the consequences that their mother would imposed if they had. sarah palin cant say that. like it or not, because she cant seem to run her household, she cant be a heartbeat away from running the country on my vote.

i find it really interesting that everyone wants to scream "hands off" about her family. if that were one of barack obama's daughters, folks would be having a field day. and i agree, you cant scream hands off my family unless i want to say something "rosy" about them. your family life isnt "rosy" mrs. palin, your daughter is clear evidence of that.

contrary to what seems to be popular opinion on this blog, black people no more vote because someone is black than white people vote for someone who is white. there have been many whites who have said that they wouldnt vote for barack obama BECAUSE he is black, never mind whether or not they agree with his platform. at the end of the day, as far as i am concerned, what the heck does his color have to do with anything at all? for me, green is the color that i am seeing, and i've got a hell of a lot less of it since george bush got into office.

barack obama will be getting my vote, and it is indeed partly because i am afraid of what sarah palin means to this

country should she become the VP. i wasnt enamored of john mccain from the beginning, but i certainly listened to his arguments in order to make a thoughtful decision. he tipped the scales for me when he selected her, and it wasnt in his favor.

the argument that blacks will vote for someone just because he/she is black may be relevant in the context of those who are not at least a little politically savvy, but it certainly is not a true statement for all black people, and as i have said countless times on this blog, we are not all alike, nor are we monolithic. as i recall, alan keyes ran for the presidency as well some years ago, he is black, but you certainly didnt hear a rallying cry from ALL black people to embrace him just because he was black. and that in and of itself shoots that theory right to hell.

"If ifs and buts were candy and nuts.

Keyes was an idiot that's why people didn't support him.

It's funny you bring him up! You do know he is the reason Obama is a senator right?

Obama was first running against someone else, but a sex scandal made that candidate drop out of the race. At one point NO ONE was running against Obama. So (supposedly) someone asked Keyes to run. 82 days left in the election and an outsider living in another state jumps on the ticket.
People vote for the candidate from their state most of the time.
There in a nutshell is why Obama is even in office.

DemoRepos is my term for both political parties because in my opinion they are the same---incompetent and incapable of running a food processor let alone a country. Both parties are in bed with "special interests" and "lobbyists", so it always makes me laugh at their promises to "change Washington" because we know their special interests won't let them.

As for the Vice President candidates---I could care less because historically the VPs don't do anything significant in terms of policy making, etc. Biden isn't anything great. In fact, I was disappointed Biden is on the ticket when other more qualified people are available, like Christopher Dodd and Kathleen Sebilius. Palin is like Biden. Romney would have been a better pick.

As I said, I don't care about the soap operas because that only prevents the discussion of the real issues facing our country. Which is a great smokescreen on the part of the DemoRepos. Both sides talk about Palin so they can avoid talking about the more important stuff.

Am I better than I was 8 years ago? I live in Maryland and Governor O'Malley's tax plan has increased by tithes to the state government. Remember the economic stimulus checks Bush sent out? My stimulus money went to paying O'Malley's state taxes. So, I'm neither better nor worse than I was 8 years ago. Therefore, I'm like you---I'm looking at my bank account and trying to figure out who will empty it faster: Obama or McCain.

RED - i was certainly aware of how keyes came to run in the election, how he got there wasnt my point, the ideas about peoples impression of black people's voting trends was. my point was that there are those who seem to think that black people will vote for someone just because he/she is black and that simply is not the case. ifs and buts have nothing to do with my commentary. the facts are there and if the roles were reversed, there would be alot more said about it because of who is whom. thats my take on it. if you think for a minute that i believe that all of the things that i stated wouldnt be campaign issues if barack obama was the one that they applied to (fifth from the bottom of the class, walked out on an injured wife, present wife is a recovering druggie, 17 yo daughter is knocked up), youve got your head in the sand, but i appreciate your commentary for what it is, at least you attempt to make your point without the race baiting comments that some others cant seem to get away from.

CC: thats for the clarification. i thought that was what it meant but didnt want to pre-suppose. i also live in MD and Jack Johnson helps to take my dollars out of my pocket since i live in PG County (at least until i retire in 3 years-LOL). your statements were true of VP's (i think) until cheney came along. i think he has more in the tank than bush and was probably doing more "running things" than people know. yes, my stimulus check went the same way, so i know what you mean. i am not voting for mccain because any man who voted at least 90% of the time with bush (his word

MADs, any politician---presidential or congressional--who'll take more of my money out of the bank to give it to people who 1. aren't even citizens, 2. who have some made up disability (like an extreme allergy to work), or 3. a bunch of people who took out bad loans when they KNEW they couldn't afford a house 4 or 5 times their yearly salary isn't looking out for you and me.

CC i agree. i am putting 3 children through college right now. the things that i have to sacrifice to do that are endless, but thats my choice. people need to learn to live within their means until their "means" allow them to do more. as for all the stuff that the illegals get for free, go figure. my sons tried to get jobs at the local mcdonalds this summer. never got a call back, but there isnt a black person working at that mcd's at all, and one poor little white girl who gets so exasperated trying to make them understand what she is saying that it isnt even funny. yet these same kids (mine) are now - 1) working for a bank (he graduates in december, but was offered the job now); 2) working for Giant Food (part time while attending school full time) and 3) is a resident assistant at school (which translates to free room and board). but not good enough to work at mcd's - oh well-LOL

yes, those republican women DO have a penchant for being druggies and then opening clinics to deal with them dont they? (take it lightly as it was given DOG, im not in the mood for fights today and my response was intended as a joke in the context that i thought your comment was given). in the same vein, is sarah going to open a day care, or would that be her daughter? umm...or maybe an alcoholics anonymous chapter with weekly meetings at the white house?

I am black, and I'm sick and tired of having to work four times as hard in order to be considered half as good as a white man.
