MADsMom's Blog

Watched the news on another network last night and saw this interesting story:

A Fort Lauderdale FL man was working at a restaurant and happened to look out of the window and see a woman being carjacked.  He ran out of the restaurant, apprehended the carjacker and held him until police arrived. Fort Lauderdale hailed him this week as a hero for doing so.

However, he was FIRED from his job that night after close of business for LEAVING the restaurant during his shift.  How stupid is THAT restaurant owner/manager?

Not to worry, he now has a job with the electric company, brought about after the city was made aware that he was fired for helping the woman.

MADsMom, we must have been doing the same channel surfing last night. I caught this story too.

The media needs to name the restaurant, so people can stop patronizing it. What a flaming AH the owner/manager is!

hey Starr - great minds think alike (smile). i thought that they "flashed" a quick pic of the restaurant at the end of the story (name was 84 Thai i think) but they didnt leave it up there long enough to really see it. i think they may have said that business was down after the story got out, but what a dummy. how are you Starr?

Yeah MADsMom, you got it right 84 Thai. I read an article on it and it said that this jackass got a lot of angry calls from the public (which is what I was hoping) and he finally offered the guy his job back. The owner seems like a moron, they are saying that he didn't like all of the attention that this hero attracted and that is why he fired him. Let's see, do I want my business to get positive attention due to the heroic acts of an employee or would I rather get negative attention for being the jackass that fired him?...

The guy got lots of job offers after being fired and as MADsMom said, took a better job with the electric company.

Oh, but News...Johnson says he didn't know, so we have to take his word on it. Afterall he is Jack Johnson. *sarcasm*

Something tells me if Johnson would run again for County Exec, he would be re-elected.

Sam_in_DC, very well said!
You don't suppose maybe the "owner/manager" may be an illegal, or has an illegal work force, other than the "Hero"?
Hmmmmmmm

what should happen here is patrons this business owner relys on should just choose another eatery and they can pass by and have a laugh as the doors close for the final time...
