So, it’s official. The 71 year-old comeback kid is truly back. Rudy’s strategy worked – just not for Rudy. Remember the New York mayor’s plan? To win the GOP nomination despite being out of step with social conservatives by counting on Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Fred Thompson to split the conservative vote in the early states, eliminating the possibility of a momentum candidate, thus allowing Giuliani to win Florida and go into Super-Tuesday with the winning game close to his pocket. But, the scenario still required that he compete in the early states, even if he didn’t win them over, in order not to fade into the recesses of people’s minds. John McCain lacked Giuliani’s fundraising machine and campaign experts, but he strode bravely into the fight, anyway – a fitting strategy for a war hero and famously “maverick” senator. And it worked.

Romney’s people are right to point out that they haven't lost the war yet, and that next Tuesday’s balloting is the real test, not Florida’s. But let’s be honest with ourselves, McCain has already taken on an air of inevitability not yet felt in this campaign.

So how do you feel about Florida’s results, and how do you feel about McCain? Do you think he’s not only capable, but fit, to take on the politically battle-tested, thick-skinned Clinton(s)? Do his age and health worry you at all? And do you think the bitterness of the Democratic contest now has the potential to help the Republican cause, and ultimately McCain more than any other Republican candidate? Are you more inclined to vote for a party this time around, or are you waiting to see who the final faces are behind the banners? (i.e. Do you feel strongly that we absolutely need either a Democrat or a Republican in the White House no matter who they may be, or could you swing either way depending on the candidate?) And finally, are you convinced that McCain and Hillary will be the chosen contenders, or do you think that in politics, as in Hollywood, the night is still too young?

A penny for your thoughts…

John McCain still has a long way to go he still needs to prove to the more conservative members of the party that he hears them..his age should not matter as it didn't with Ronald Reagan..and yes we do need a republican in the White House now more than ever..with a democratic controlled congress if we don't have checks and balances we will have what we did when Bill Clinton was elected those first two years were the worst in this country's history ran a s a moderate to get the votes once he got in he was a total liberal to like this country has never seen pushing every pork barrel spending measure ever with a liberal democratic congress ..it was a great time if you were leach .they spit in the face of business ..his don't ask don't tell almost split the military .he was every decent normal human beings worst nightmare..he so inflamed the hearts and minds of the American people that for the first time in 40 years they elected a republican congress to keep that man in check ..once that happened Clinton became a moderate like he lied about during his campaign...make no mistake Hillery is the same conniving liberal liar we cant afford that again especially now with the economy the way it is and being at war ..we don't need to be spending billions on saving owls and finding out how fruit flies mate..we don't need to turn tail and run from Iraq making us look like cowards in the the face of our enemy opening up the flood gates for terrorist attacks here and abroad..no no any republican is better than Hillbillery..be afraid be very afraid

Leelila, i appreciate your blogs! i don't understand the paragraphs of political commenters. "momentum" means nothing to me. i look at the candidates and i observe how well they were received in other states, but i keep my sense of who is a prick and of who is leadership material! i do not donate to political campaigns. interestingly, don hewitt of cbs suggested that paid political spots on TV are not fair. i agree with hewitt. paid TV spots give advantage to the richer candidate.

The nights still too young Leelila, Romney and Obama can come out of nowhere and take the noms.
I’ll admit that when I saw McCain about four years ago, and learned a little bit about him, I LOVED HIM. I told my husband, hunny, he should be and would make an amazing President (as opposed to the newly elected Bush.....again. Then I changed my mind because I was confused over the whole immigration bs, but now Im back to loving him once more. So even if Rudy’s not meant to be, its ok, McCain’s just as good and I admire his service in the armed forces to no end. So that’s definitely a plus especially during a time of war.
As for a rep or demo in office, I couldn’t care less. No matter what, we’re going to be just fine. I mean its not like that person solely governs…there are soo many checks and balances, its impossible. The decider does have the final say, but he or she will be held accountable in the end, so its all good.

Actually, it will vary greatly, because depending on who controls the house and senate that body will be more important. The only power a President really has politically is the veto pen, and even that can be overcome. Unfortunately Bush and Congress expanded the powers of the Presidency to a near Dictatorship in order to fight the terrorists while leaving our borders wide open for terrorists which leads me to comment are any of these candidates for real? I mean look at the issues. NAFTA trades away our jobs, H1B Technology Visas destroy our jobs, new underclass of Illegal Immigrants to replace our jobs, Open borders, Drugs, Murderers, Rapists, Thieves, Foreign Invasions, and yes, Terrorists. None of the leaders to date have really tried to close our borders and amend NAFTA and to a lesser extent GATT. That is why these people are all phonies. But don't worry. McCain and Hillary are also against free speech. They will shut down free speech in all forms including these blogs. Mark my words, the time to blog here and talk radio are nearly at a death knell, and they won't stop there once they all get back in power...Have a nice day!

craftyguy, interesting take. though i would argue that perhaps the most electable republican needs to be a bit less conservative right now to draw in those who want "change" and are unhappy with the current state of affairs in washington. mccain just might be that person, while romney might prove to be a bit too conservative to win the general election. something to think about, perhaps?

thanks, paul d. i actually agree with hewitt as well. i think campaign finance reform is something we desperately need in this country.

dasvics, love getting your take on how the race is still very much on. also on mccain. there's a lot of substance to him, i agree. i'm with you in that i don't care much about the party right now, just the person. i'm still "on the fence" as they say, which i love, as it makes me all the more engaged, checking the temperature and pulse of the election constantly.

sebar, why so much fear and doom and gloom? you really ought to work in news... ;-) i do hear you, though.

Leelila I greatly disagree..we have a president who is out of touch with the people and has to work with a liberal democratic controlled congress that has a lower approval rating than him ..that right there should say it all..Bushs biggest problem is that he is so absorbed in foreign policy he totally ignored the people who elected him and why they elected him if he had stayed the course he did for his first two years he would go down as a great president but instead he was all about pleasing daddy and followed the same path that got his father rejected after only four years and brought on the worst case scenario's Clinton's who continued to screw up til we elected a conservative republican congress..conservatism drives this country ..we are a very nationalistic society 9/11 proved that once again..we love patriotism we love our soldiers and our flag and the freedoms they protect...this country was based on majority rules ..i don't think the majority support gay marraige, and amnesty for illegal immigrants, and support the ACLU and a revolving door prison system..those are all products of liberals who have been destroying this nation ever since they came on the scene in the 1960s..Hippies sucked then and they suck now.

If John McCain had been as cowardly and deferential to his communist captors as he would apparently be to illegal aliens, would he have even survived Vietnam?

Moreover, now that a sitting U.S. senator and leading candidate for the presidency has warned that mob rule, rather rule of law, may be the foundation for future government immigration policy and action, will the illegal alien community decide to play the R card (riot!) in order to get its way?

Finally, McCain and others intent on legalizing 38 million illegal aliens argue that amnesty makes sense because Latino aliens share values common to the majority of Americans.

That may be so, but I’ll be damned if I can recall a single instance when millions of American citizens resorted to rioting because of displeasure with legitimate laws and enforcement.

But perhaps some rioting from American citizens is needed to convince the likes of John McCain to abandon amnesty and his ill begotten strategy of surrender to illegal aliens?

craftyguy, interesting take. i know many people don't really view mccain as conservative enough, and think romney absolutely is capable of winning in the general election... i'm not sure i agree. (i.e. i think mccain may be a safer bet for republicans if only because he also attracts so many democrats and independents. and florida proved he could attract republicans too. with that combination, can he lose? i don't know.)

chaoscrew, i hear what you are saying. i offer you a counter-argument, NOT because i necessarily believe it, but because i'm playing devil's advocate. in the case of slavery, you had an instance of something that was legal, yet clearly unjust. trying to break away from slavery (i.e. fleeing your master) was, in fact, considered illegal. in that case people revolted until they got the laws changed. do you not think illegal immigrants here may have that leg to stand on, and if so, why? i.e. why do you not think they have a right to claim that in this case, what is legal isn't always what is humane and right, and that sometimes what is humane and right needs to be fought for?

John McCain by liberal standards is a conservative..by conservative standards hes a moderate at best..that's OK for the country but he will irate the true conservatives in the republican party ..Romney is more of a conservative but the fact he is Mormon isn't going to fly with a party that is almost totally Protestant a country that is majority protestant or right now he would be writing his victory speech for the convention ..McCain is the safer bet but he needs to come around on a lot of issues that are plaguing this nation and number one is illegal immigration..he is way to soft and even sided with Ted Kennedy that totally unacceptable a republican talking to Kennedy is like Fred Goldman asking O.J out to dinner or even wose aking Kennedy for a ride home.

I don't feel you can compare slaves to illegal aliens.

Because the slaves were forced onto this land, illegal aliens are not forced to come here. Mexico people are not in exile, sure they are a poor country and the people are desperate for a better life.

But on the other hand there are millions of people from hundreds of countries far poorer than Mexico who would also like to come to America and they just can't invade the country by sneaking over the border they have to wait their turn and do it legally.

If the Mexican people put forth as much effort to fix and change their own country instead of trying to change American existing laws maybe they could quite possibly make Mexico a better place.

Whelp Leelila, McCain wants to shut down conservative talk radio and also blogs too and regulate them. Regulate is the code word for controlling the freedom of speech. I will tell you what. L.A. banned the "N" word, worst thing they could do along with NYC. If you need to reach me you can email me directly at sebar @ sebar.com and I will send you a early copy of my new novel "The Interracial Couples" which has lots of the "N" word, and no they aren't silencing my voice as an artist. Do you really think I am paranoid or perhaps just calling it as it is really happening when I post? This country is being sold down the tubes for globalism. They are denigrating our economy because they want to bring up the rest of the economies around the globe. Someone has to lose and it is us. But because talk radio and blogs communicate, they want to dissolve that too. It happened after talk show callers were alerted to amnesty for illegals. In other words, they want to shut your voice and mine down. Example, just look at what C.A.I.R. and now the E.F.F. is doing to Dr. Michael Savage on radio. They cannot tolerate the truth. But isn't it the truth that shall set you free? Is Communist Chinese monies flowing into our government now too? I mean they don't like our criticism. Perhaps our government has prostituted itself so bad, it can no longer even have fair elections. Leelila I have been on the Earth since the 50's. I see the truth, I was here before you were on soil or even a thought and I can atest that this country was a far grander place. A real country, not the fraud it is today. Can y

con'td...

Can you honestly look back at near history and say we are better, less the technological gadgets? No, because what you are getting is a soft communism. I have had capitalism and a real America that meant something, so my viewpoint is an honest viewpoint. I am only squawking about what is really happening. The Clinton's, Barrak, McCain, all frauds, every one of them and this is not a fair national election, it is rather, bought and purchased and you and I don't mean anything to the globalists. Good luck and remember, those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

cc's right Leelila, slavery was nothing like illegal immigration, they where forced to come here. Illegal immigrants choose to. My problem with cc and his crew is that they want to deport illegal immigrants NOT because they broke a law, but because they blame IMMIGRATION in general for all the problems in our country. Like he said, “It’s all about money”. That's what I feel is wrong and discriminative. Immigrants ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROBLEMS WERE FACING. Poorly educated citizens unable to compete in a fierce job market and greedy ceo's who EXPLOIT desperate people in order to make a few more bucks are the ones to blame. But why isn’t cc and his group focused on the business owners who use and abuse human beings for their own personal gain? BECAUSE THEY'RE WHITE AND IMMIGRANTS AREN’T. That's why I also think they're racists to top it off. And what's all this about 85% of the country being against or even worried about immigration? Where the heck do they get those stats, when exit poll after exit poll, shows otherwise? The economy, Healthcare, Social Security, then immigration and Iraq. Where are these "millions" of people that are supposedly outraged? I've seen maybe a couple of thousand if that, but millions upon millions? Let me know when to.....LOL

those polls are usually of republicans the liberal news media loves to create problems that's the only way they know how to get a story through yellow journalism..look at jerry springer, oprah,dr phil, montel ..those shows are disgusting..they prey on the weak and exploit the people they show like a freak show..the media who is part of Hollywood hates republicans and conservatives because they expose them for the one sided liberals they are ala CNN..illegal immagration has nothing to do with color or racism it has to do with breaking the law if you think being against illegal immagration is racist then your also saying being against rapists is being sexist..wake the hell up..breaking the law is breaking the law..if i park in your driveway because its empty that's OK?..its trespassing..that's what these people are doing trespassing where they don't belong..they are once again BREAKING THE LAW ...both federal and state..

Breaking the law is the issue, NOT POVERTY. That’s where you lost me and you’ll continue to loose people who at one time may have agreed with you on this issue. I have no problem enforcing laws to prevent criminal behavior, but I have MANY problems discriminating against people because they need help or because they’re culture is different in some way, and YES, to do so IS RACISM.
The problem with illegal immigration has nothing to do with immigration in general, it has nothing to do with Mexico or Hispanic culture, IT HAS EVERYTHING TO DO WITH BREAKING LAWS, and those laws being broken INCLUDE AMERICAN CITIZENS WHO EXPLOIT ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS to make a few more bucks.

CNN and the rest of “the Media” are not part of some type of conspiracy to destroy America or screw American citizens in any way. BECAUSE THERE ISN’T ONE. To think there is one, is ludicrous.

And could someone explain to me how CNN is “one sided” when they have shows like Lou Dobbs and Glenn Beck who I think are Conservative Republicans who constantly speak up against illegal immigration among other things? What about FOX’s Hannity and Colmes, or The O‘Reilly Factor? Are those programs one sided as well?

your ridiculous it was CNN who basically started the war in Somalia..we had no reason to even be there..they kept showing a bunch or BLEEP about human rights like they did in Serbia falsely reporting things creating a frenzy amongst idiots who said we need to do something..things in Somalia are no better now then they were when we went there ..where is the CNN reporters in Somalia now?don't fool yourself the liberal media loves to control things that's not paranoia its fact..if they cant find a story they will create one ..why do we care about Britney spears or Lindsey lohan or Paris Hilton ..what possible point do their lives have on ours do you think their lives are news worthy or even news?is your life so pathetic that you need to see someone who has it better than you suffer?that's what the media has become..look at American idol showing people who have no talent exploited like a circus for what ratings ..sure lets demean people for prophet I'm not wrong about nothing you are just a sheep a follower star struck liberal who thinks that if i suck up enough ill get noticed ..try thinking for yourself instead of whats put at you by a screen and is told to you by some pretty boy or girl reading off a teleprompter who has no idea what they just read..stop being a sucker..and back to the thing you replied on illegal immigrants ..i agree with you using them for profit makes those people as guilty as those ilegales themselves..both should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law..hows that for equality?

I can’t stand most “celebs” or stories on them, I don’t watch tmz or E! or any other celebrity news channel…Id rather not watch television and Blog instead, hey maybe that’s why Ive been spending so much time online, I hope Sebars wrong and they don’t shut down the blogs cause then Ill be stuck watching those stupid shows or worse yet, reading books.... aahh!
anyways...you’re right about celebs not being news worthy, but that doesn’t mean that all of the news is meaningless, misleading or false. If networks began reporting on the lifestyles of the Rich and Stupid, its only because those who are stupider began tuning in, more viewers = more $$$. But that doesn’t mean that there aren’t plenty of respectable, trustworthy reporters who bring us stories of great importance and try to make a real difference in our world. And watch it on talking BLEEP about Anderson Cooper, he’s one of the good honest reporters. He risked his life in order to bring attention to the suffering of others, and he still does. Of course reporters aren’t able to report every problem in the universe, but they do their best, and its up to us the viewers to decide what channel and what show to watch. So your conspiracy theory is impossible being that we aren’t forced to watch anything, we choose to. And stop labeling me a lib, Im an individual, not a clone from a political party.

First of all, who gives a BLEEP who I “endorse”? I don’t endorse anyone. I LIKE more than one person, so what? Excuse you but I can like or dislike whomever I choose for whatever reason I choose. The Paul song on my blog was courtesy of cc, so you can thank him for that, I had nothing to do with it and I deleted it. Second, certain people are racist not because they want to enforce laws to prevent crime and protect borders, but because all they do is talk BLEEP about Mexico, Mexicans, Hispanics, and the POOR….and that really pisses me off!

Criminals are one thing, PEOPLE WHO ARE STARVING AND DESPERATE FOR HELP = POVERTY….ARE ANOTHER. Get it straight.

Why aren’t there any blogs of all the British illegal immigrants and their culture? Oh that’s right, cause theirs not many of them right? What the BLEEP ever. You’re not fooling anyone.
As for Paul, did you not tell me that he has affiliations with racists? Did Leelila herself not mention newsletters he sent out that where racist? So what in the hell makes you think that anyone wants to hear anything he has to say? Im not in the media, I don’t decide anything, but...I would change the channel if that fool began to speak. Yep, that’s right, you can quote me on that. “I will change the channel and watch the lifestyles of the Rich and Stupid if Ron Paul is allowed to speak his utter nonsense that racist bastard”
As for Huckabee, I don’t know, maybe people are sick & tired of the Evangelical wanna be holier than thou hypocrites running around. Who knows? It’s not the medias fault if people don’t like them or don’t want to h
