Oh Oscar? Where art thou?

What were you thinking when you did not nominate the brilliant DREAMGIRLS for Best Picture? This lavish, entertaining jewel of a film featured some of the year's best performances (Jennifer Hudson, Eddie Murphy, Beyonce Knowles, Jamie Foxx), some excellent musical numbers, gorgeous set pieces...

I shall not criticize thee for your other nominees for top film of 2006; superb entries all.

But DREAMGIRLS is cinematic bliss. It DESERVES to be recognized as such.

And c'mon Oscar? When are you going to stop being so snooty and grandious and give an award to a comedy, action film or horror flick?

BORAT: CULTURAL LEARNINGS OF AMERICA TO MAKE BENEFIT GLORIOUS NATION OF KAZAKHSTAN was one of the best reviewed breakout films of last year. It was featured on many critic's Top Ten lists.

And yet because of its subversive nature, you reduce it to an Adapted Screenplay nod. That's it. For shame, Oscar ol' boy!

You could have ATLEAST acknowledged Sacha Baron Cohen for Best Actor, but you passed him over. Good move, Academy voters. NOT!!!!

Oh well. I'll still be watching the gala event next month to see the big winners and fashion faux paus.

Because ~ despite your glaring omissions this year ~ to quote the Kazakhstani reporter himself: "I liiiiiike!"
