Nothing against the '50s, but what's up with our government?

Here's the story:

"While some folks wait patiently for their stimulus check-- other people are getting two!The IRS says it accidentally doubled up checks to about fifteen-hundred people.

If you got that extra check-- don't cash it.

The Feds say you should write "void" on the back of the check-- and mail it back to the IRS with a note.  If a second stimulus check was deposited electronically-- contact your bank."

This is what I think:

Write void and send the check and a little note back to the government! Give me a break. What should the note say, "Thanks for getting me excited and then dashing my hopes by making me spend 42 cents more to send you this note to say, you screwed up."

They should put stop payments on those checks--jump into the electronic world of 2008.

While 1500 people isn't a huge mistake given our population, they should know who double-dipped. My fear is--they don't know.

First off I really don't think the Government gives a tinker's dam what "any" of us think. They've made that abundantly clear through their actions of the last 20 years. What with activist "judges,"( I use the term judges loosely) and socialist mandates, this country has been slowly declining in all aspects being a world power, except when it comes to hand outs, or to keep others from killing each other we are looked down on as an immoral, corrupting infuence.

Secondly, I think the Government operated more efficiently in the 40s, and 50s when there wern't all of these incompetants, and commies infesting the Government payroll. Eugene McCarthy will be vindicated, even if he was a bit over the top. The steady erosion of our rights is testament to what he knew to be true.

IRS Says Up To 350,000 Tax Rebate Checks Wrong

If you already got your stimulus check and it wasn't as much as you thought it would be you're not alone. The IRS is now saying 350 thousand tax payers weren't compensated for their children.

Mistakes are being blamed on human error and computer glitches.

If you don't find your money in your bank account by now, then you will have to wait for a paper check in the mail, if you are getting one.

If we all ran our businesses like the government we would be a poor nation.

No, I want the healthcare industry to run it. I want the government to have more control over the pharmacutical companies and stop them from using humans as guinea pigs for their new medications that doctors now peddle for them for kickbacks. I want the government to force them to make insurance prices reasonable and hospital charges reasonable so that we can afford them without taking out a mortgage or running down a savings account.
I want to stop being ripped off by governments (both state and fed), insurance companies, oil companies and all these other greedy corporations that control the politicians like puppets. We need to make all the corporations empty their back pockets and let our representatives work for the people.

Ms. Katbird:

You sound like Cdog.

Here's the problems with "emptying their back pockets". They are publicly held. So who would end up being hurt? The shareholders. And if you any sort of mutal funds, that is likely you. Secondly, new drugs, new products and product advances of any kind comes from profits being used for research and development. "Take away" their profits, and we all will pay a price. And I would assume that it would be the government taking away their profits.......I have seen you state that you believe the government is corrupt. Are you saying that the government can more effectively spend a corporations profit than the corporation???

You are making a whole series of assumptions in making statements like that. You may want to critically evaluate those assumptions.

Back on the larger topic: is the government threatening any penalties for cashing the extra money???? I haven't heard anything realted to this.
