Go ahead. Laugh. Most people had their tonsils out when they were a kid, I get to have mine out at the ripe old age of 31 (if Michelle Williams has no fear about revealing her age, then I can go the distance too!!!)

I get my tonsils out on Friday the 13th. No I do not believe in bad luck, so there! I will be gone for 2-3 weeks but no worries, I will be back. I am kind of worried because I have never gone through any kind of surgical procedure or had anesthesia or anything like that. That freaks me out pretty badly. The doctor warned that recuperating could be hard and painful and that my voice may change. If I came back sounding like a man, you guys would still love me, right?

I've heard that having your tonsils out is like being on a liquid diet. I look forward to the pounds melting off of me with my diet consisting of only soft babyfood like things like scrambled eggs, soup, jello, pudding, ice cream and my famous rice gruel. Yes, I said gruel and it does taste good.

Anyway, I will be back to blog occasionally. I have some books to keep me company.

JT- Check out the new David Sedaris book for a laugh. It sounds like you're reading too many serious things. It'll be a good break and I'll be reading it too.

Good luck with your surgery on Friday.

And yes, even if you come out with Bobcat Goldthwaite's voice, we'll still love ya.

Or the late Robert Mitchum's voice.

"Beef. It's what's for dinner." Practice saying that a few times , just in case. :)

I read a headline a couple of weeks ago that said Congress was grilling the oil execs.
Frankly, I thought that was quite comical.
You AND Michelle are STILL kids.

Did Dr. Mike call "dibs" on your tonsils ? :)

The italian Ice is a great idea! Via Venetos anyone? But while you are passing the time...you may decide to catch a Brady Bunch rerun - when peter had his tonsils out. Will you have anyone to wait on you? Aliiiiice....!
No don't start calling your ol' man Alice, unless he calls you peter....in that case..well you do whatever you want on your time off! lol!
I hope you recover swiftly & get time to enjoy yourself.
Well wishes to you Julie! I'll miss you- actually my ol' man will miss you even more...you're his fave!

Best wishes to you! Italian Ice - get the mango or pina colada flavors! They are so refreshing.
I remember my brother bring his tonsils home in a jar - you won't do that, will you!!! I also remember there was a lot of ice cream around the house - he did the dirty work and we all jumped on the bandwagon when the ice cream came around.
You will be fine. Just take care of yourself.

How tonsils work...

good luck with it. I had my tonsils out last sept. It wasnt that bad when I first woke up, but I lived off the pain meds. I only could sleep for 2-3 hours at a time, once the meds wore off I was up and about. I was on liquid hydrocodone it worked like a charm. My doctor advised me no dairy products, since it thickens your mucous. Best thing I can say is water. Drink lots of it. I went two weeks of only drinking water. But be careful when the scabs fall off, mine fell off and I hemoraged and had to go to the er, luckly it rescabbed or I would have had to start all over again. And yawning will take about a month or two before it doesnt hurt. I had them done when I was 21. And my voice acually didnt change at all. I still sound the same. Oh rule of thumb, when you wake up from surgery, you will feel like you can talk. and you can. But dont. I made the mistake and did thinking nothing of it and paid for it an hour later once the good meds from the hospital wore off. Make sure yah buy lots of paper and pens! And good luck!

I promise I won't laugh unless you come out sounding like Marge Simpson's twin sisters (either one). ;P

or come out laughing like Fran Drescher. But I think it would be cool though if you come out sounding like Leah Remini. haha!

Heh heh. Thanks for the well wishes. My tonsils had their last meal tonight. Sushi, baby, yeah!!!

I am sorry for all of you who were hoping to put my tonsils on your mantle. My old man has called dibs, way before Dr. Mike. and way before the guys in the control room ( the dudes that press the buttons and make sure we sound ok). The doctor told me that way back when, they used to line the kids up in the kitchen and do them all at once. Horrifying!!!

As for recovery, I came home to my in-laws house today to see the kitchen counter stocked like a coldwar bunker. Packs of rice, jello, orzo, peanut butter and jelly and tea.

Thank you electron for adding that little you tube post on the tonsils. It perfectly describes my problem. I've been on anti-biotics like 8 times in less than a year. Zoiks!!

ANd no talking got it. Maybe the station will have me back and i can do a pictionary routine with the anchors.

You can be a mime...right outside the station...as long as its not too hot!
Maube Fox29 should hire a mime in honor of your tonsils! the mime can be holding the jar...lol

Hey All,

Surgery went well. SO well, I felt like She-ra on the first day. Things have gone downhill from there as all the anesthesia has worn off. Holding up. Lots of jello, water, runny eggs.

The doctors said that recovery could be very hard because he found a number of "tonsil stones" in my tonsils. He said it was in his experience that people with a lot of them have a harder recovery.

Tonsil stones will haunt me forever. You need to google this. It's gross!!

Hi Julie, I'm glad everything went well for ya.

Ok, I googled tonsil stones.

I think runny eggs are more gross.

Oh wow.. I have heard of kidney stones and seen Kramer from Seinfeld have it (very painful), but tonsil stones?! I will take your word for it and leave it at gross.

Ok, be honest now. Do you still sound the same or what?

It varies. At times my voice is a rusty croak, at others I do sound a bit like Marge Simpson, except quieter. Other times I think I sound like I'm gargling marbles. I have a hard time pronouncing words. I said to my husband last night, "Cruddle me!" He said what? "Cruddle me! Cruddle me!"

Hey Jeep,

Just the person I was thinking about. OK. I know we talked about this, we both like vampire and zombie movies and stuff... um...have you read any Stephanie Meyers twilight saga? Because I am obsessed. Nevermind that it seems to be a series made for "young adults." That phrase skeeves me out a bit. Like the 30+ need not apply and should slunk around to the non-fiction side of the local bookstore. Um. anyways, yes, I am obsessed now with this series and will most likely shell out 20 dollars to attend a concert series with the author.

The topic is about a teenage girl who falls in love with a vampire. I guess, hence, the "young adult" genre. Anyway, it's addictive.

Sigh. everyone likes Harry Potter right? Young, old? Ok. this is my Harry Potter then.
