Julie's Book of the Month is Duma Key by Stephen King. It was released on January 22nd but it's taken me awhile to finish reading it.

I think this was a pretty decent book by Stephen King. What I find key in his novels, character development and you certainly get that from Duma Key. He always finds a premise that is pretty fascinating...what if cellphones caused people to become berzerker zombies (Cell), what if a Buick is a portal to a different world (From a Buick 8)  and in Duma Key, what if the pictures you draw, become a kind of twisted reality. Edgar Freemantle's the main character and has lost his limb and hife as he knows it after a terrible construction accident leaves him without an arm and with a damaged brain.

What I found disappointing about Duma Key is the predictability. The ending reminded me of a hodge podge of thriller movies like "The Ring." Overall not a bad read but I'd wait for it to come back on soft cover instead of paying lots for the hardback :p

I agree with you about King's character development. Seems as if you can identify with them.

Recently, I read an oldi but goody by Dean Koontz called "The bad place", and while I like Koontz, his good guy's and gal's are a little to perfect for my taste. The bad guy in 'the bad place'(and his twin sisters and a brother) were conceived by a fully functional hermaphroditic mother. Thats right, she impregnated herself, literally! Of course, that led to some 'special' talents for her children!

I won't say anymore in case you decide to read it sometime, but, how do these guys think this stuff up? What kind of mind can conceive this stuff?

Our kinds of minds jim. Thought you woulda figgered that one out by now. You've read my blogs, if I focused, I could be on the JBotM list. SCARY THOUGHT ISN"T IT?!?!

Hey Jules, where ya been? Was Starting to think KL knocked you out and kidnapped you to take your place as Foxphilly Blog Queen.

My money's on Jules. She looks like she could kick some serious butt.

Nah newz. Your pets would never let you go THAT far off the deep edge, although we both may be teetering on the brink! I know my dog helps me keep a strand of sanity.

I agree about Jules though, she looks like she could chew some nails when she's pee'od.

OH boys boys boys. You know what they say about women right? Something about hell and scorn? Yah...Thanks for the props but KL is pretty tall lady. She does have the arm reach advantage.

I have a problem with blogging. Most of the time, as you guys know, I blog in the entertainment part because after a day of Hard News, I want to be amused, capeesh? But there are so many good bloggers, like Gerald's Beer blog, and KL's blogs. I like to blog when it's a little slow so I don't knock off the person in the lead profile box on the right, know what I mean?

Newz, what in the world WOULD you write about? Quite frankly, adventures in Catsitting might be appropriate for you.

As for Koontz, I have been so disappointed by his latest reads that I can't bear to read his stuff anymore. I read "The Face" which sucked!!! and then I read "The Taking" which was so FULL of plot holes that I could have driven one of these huge construction trucks I am looking at underneath the I-95 part that needs to be fixed (that's where I be tonight, boysz!)

I haven't read any of Koontz's latest stuff. Sounds to me like you want to throw him under one of those trucks! Anyway, have fun hanging out under I-95.

Oh, and watch out for those trucks. Ya never know, one of them may have a mind of It's own, and an attitude also!

Really shouldn't put ideas in my head, never know what could happen. Oh, Jules...

You gonna be watching Star Wars on Spike this weekend? all 6 Starting Friday at 8. Glad I'm off Sunday, FINALLY get to see Revenge of the Sith for the first time. How sad is that?

Anybody read any of the Timothy Zahn Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica Novels? Easy to get lost in the book for a couple of hours. Not often I read a book where the writing is so detailed you can almost see it in your minds eye. Whoa!! That's pretty deep for me.

Now this looks like something Stephen King could have fun with. Or maybe a new pet for newz.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you jim. been away for a few days working job # 2 of 3. Y'know, a robot pet might not be such a bad idea at this point. Be a heck of a lot easier than the menagerie I have right now.

Jules... Catsitting? Apparently you have read my blogs before. I'm honored. You are now officially one of Newz's Nuts. HMMMMM! that didn't quite come out the way I expected. Doesn't sound too nice does it?
