This whole VT thing is very disturbing, but what disturbed me more was when I heard of an interview of a VT student stating that he and his friends were repeatedly telling one another that if they ever needed anyone to talk to they could lean on each other. Reason being, the whole reason this guy did what he did, was because he felt he didn't have anyone to lean on. Nobody has focused on where the real problem lies. We need to encourage eachother to be positive, that name calling isn't acceptable, because someone is different we do not have a right to treat them differently.
We should be encouraging people to be a bit more nice to others. Children can be so cruel, and we all know where it stems from. Parents need to be positive & supportive of their children at all times. Teach them good not bad, stregnth not control, pride not prejudice & jealousy! Teach them to be helpful not lazy, Supportive not insulting. We need to be POSITIVE ROLE MODELS!!! My children are very young, and Everytime I say something negative, I am trying to catch myself. Especially now that they start repeating what I say.... When I hear my 3 year old make comments like "stupid idiot" I have to stop and tell him, that is not a nice thing to say and mommy shouldn't have said that. I also try to think about that driver I just called an idiot... what if there was a reason he cut me off, what if his child was sick or his wife was in th ER....
This should be a learning experience to make us strong and supportive to everyone all the time. Not a chance to be a listening ear because something so disturbing has happened.
