I've been knee deep in spring cleaning.

How about you---gonna tackle that garage of yours? What have you unearthed in your own purging?

My closets at home and my desk at the office are getting a good sweep. The ritual is easy for me--so liberating! It's tough when when it comes to my husband's stuff, though. I'm pretty respectful, but he still hasn't forgiven me for donating to Salvation Army the GIANT stereo speakers which have been gathering dust in our storage room for years.

What are some of the items you just can't dump?

Other than a few skeletons in my closet, I haven't found much this Spring.

Thank goodness for tax deductible items, that's all I can say. All of these clothes that aren't in style anymore have got to go, but at least I can use them as a write-off.

i could never let go any of my coats. i just love them all. I also have a problem getting rid of my boots. i always think they have a few more miles on them. plus it's hard for me to find any boots that i really like. so it's hard to let go.

Ahhhh, Jean... you've hit on my topic! anything i might be able to use is worthwhile keeping unless i would need to pay storage fees! old computers? there might be an old email i would like to see again. i used to save Time magazines, especially those which might have a milestone or article about someone i feel is important. my last apt was clutter with lots of good stuff. i would collect good stuff which my neighbors were disposing. a problem occured when someone felt the clutter was too much combustible material. i spoke to city fire dept and was told the codes are vague...just create a path of unspecified width to the exit. that was easy, i was able to rearrange the clutter so that a path was unencumbered! can you believe my way of thinking is a manifestation of mental illness? it is! i don't know why i feel comfort with having clutter but i am able to sit at my desk and think! take away the clutter and i feel vulnerable. it's probably my mother's fault. she gave my toys away to a neighbor without telling me. later i saw some of those toys vandalized in the neighbor's son's room. that GI Joe cowboy which my cousins in NY had sent me one christmas. i was seven or so and i felt the doll was not what i wanted, but once it was mine, i wanted to save it. this occured almost 40 years ago and i still resent how the other kid destroyed that GI Joe cowboy. I also hate vommiting because it is a waste of food. maybe this is also manifestation of a mental illness.

Jean
Can you do my house next? I'm like your husband... I hang onto things!

Our news foundation... The Good News Foundation just did a clothing donation and that forced me to give up some old suits. I still hung onto a few.. maybe next year!

I'm constantly taking household items and clothes to the salvation army -- I don't like clutter and stuff piling up! Drives my husband nuts! I give him a 2 week timeline to find a use for something, then it's OUT!
